everything i've heard about it is that it's a plugin for the OBDII jack. so <1995ers will be ok.

if you're gonna use it outside,or in the car.check out the panasonic toughbooks. you could probably get a slightly used one in your budget.

a hole in the cat caused a similiar situation in my car.technically it was an unused 02 sensor bung that wasn't plugged. filling the hole solved the problem.

i've seen them on 1/2ton trucks used to access remote tower sites in the rockies.they work great on snow.they actually do leave a more shallow footprint as opposed to tires.

get some cheapo sockets in a size too small from autozone,pound them on with a hammer and viola' no more locknuts.

i'm not hating on IPS either...personally i like ricky,and jeff is my neighbor,but i do my own work as well.and if something is out of my range of ability or resources.then let someone elses take care of it(for example rebuilding the bottom end)but as far as the starter and alternator goes...thats my job.

tell them to put it back together and drive it home.if it started under it own power and turned ok without leaking when you took it there...then it should do the same when you leave.get a second opinion on the noise from a resident dsm freak.
