It's too bad, because East Franklinton (I corrected my original post ) Is a great location to walk/bike downtown...most of the garbage has already been leveled, but there's not a lot to buy. There's a couple commercial buildings...just get one of those, build out a loft bedroom/bathroom and have the greatest car hangout ever.

Clifford Performance for warrantied work?
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
She's waiting for her insurance adjuster to quote her what the options are (rebuild or total the car out)...then will be making phone calls. Sounds like she may wait for Rife's to open up for tow-ins in a couple of weeks. FYI, yes...both Grandview and Westerville are packed. -
Check out Franklinton, EAST of 315. Shady, but you can be sure that's the next area to blow up with COSI being rebuilt and 400 W. Rich/Land Grant Brewing adding a lot of buzz to that area. Other than that, be prepared to go condo. You can get garages, but working on your junk may be difficult. I know a couple of car guys (single) living downtown but neither does more than car washing at their places...no real room to store major tools and don't want to draw attention from peeps walking around downtown. I applaud you for this. There are certainly compromises, but Ohio is a great state population-wise to get a true downtown-living experience yet still have relative ease getting around. I just came back from Christmas in Philadelphia with family (been doing it for years) and while a neat city, you'd need to be a millionaire to live well downtown, or you're in some sh!tty neighborhoods for miles just to get by. If I lived downtown, I'd have a really hard time not plowing down cans of Oranjboom at 16-Bit, Mikey's Late Night Slices, a Big Rig burger at Walrus, drinking Old Chub at PINS...so many fun places to be down here.

Aftermarket remote starter for newer 7-series?
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Thanks, guys! I relayed this information to my sister-in-law. I appreciate CR's help as always. -
Steve, I have two from my 1982 Ford F100!!!! Just took them off. Lowered the front end with '87-'96 DJM Dream Beams and F150 brakes (5x5.5) and ran adapters until just last week when I swapped on new tires on newer F150 wheels that have the proper bolt-patter. I'm 99% sure that the '82 F100 2WD 6-cyl was 5x4.5... These are steelies with snow tires...newer but one side has pretty bad shoulder wear from being out of alignment. Would be perfect for a trailer.

Congratulations, Andrew! That's a great feeling...

That's what I was about to ask. A solid DIY wrap option that 2-3 car guys can do... it'll be time to wrap all the things.

That's a damn solid feeling...getting a motor like that - rebuilt by you guys - fired back up again!

I don't even need to go into how much I trust Kevin Clifford… All of my cars, as well as nearly all of my referrals, go his way. However, my sales assistant just had her 2015 Toyota Camry plowed into by a tow truck while it was parked on the road. She is very concerned about having it repaired back to Toyota standards, and she has a phone call into Toyota Direct. She is really concerned about having all Toyota parts and a center that will warrantee the repair for the life of the vehicle, in her mind. In addition, Rife's Autobody is so backed up, the woman said not to tow her Camry to them… It would be until mid-January until they have availability to even look at it. Insurance adjuster won't come by to look at her Camry until tomorrow, but are there any other major repair centers that people would recommend, again, I love Kevin, but looking for other options as well in town. Thank you!

Good job getting a 2WD...awesome plan to drop that beast...sure it'll handle a lot better and look the business. Looking forward on some updated pics. Cant believe you can buy an SUV that awesome and modern for less than $3k. Let me know if you find anymore beasts like that (relatively rust free)

My sister-in-law has a newer 750li... she's contacted Columbus car audio and the BMW dealership to have an aftermarket remote start system installed. Both shop said it can't be done. Does anybody have experience with installing almost start on that seven series?

If you commissioned Nakai-san to do your 964, wouldn't you reach out to the Porsche community to find some Instagram fanboi who could produce a slightly better video? Damn Bellevue Microsoft hipsters.

How long are you planning on being there? What if there is an issue with the Credit Union releasing title? Payment issues with the current owner? You could be there for days...or have wasted a flight and your time to only get part-way to a closing....or lose the deal altogether. Not trying to get all Geeto'd up in hurr...just providing perspective.

Seller has a memorandum title (or memorandum certificate). Bank owns the car and has title to the vehicle, with implied ownership/use to the borrower who has the car and uses it. Bank doesn't want a car - merely to use this guy's desire to own his car as collateral to loan him money. Once the loan is paid back by the owner, he gets title of the vehicle....and the bank's interest in the car as collateral against a loan (the lien) is released.
-
If your financing the car or using the bank to issue a check, can't you have your bank just send payment directly to his bank? Whatever is in excess will be cut to the seller, and you have assurance that both financial institutions successfully complete the lien transfer before you even fly out. When I bought my CTS-V in California, Bank of America financed the amount I wanted and combined with cash from my 5/3 account into one payment that went to the seller's credit union in Cali. Both banks did everything, including releasing the title to me with the seller's information...all he had to do was sign in front of a notary at his bank that it was being released to me. I had a notary sign in Ohio once I received title, and the car came via auto carrier a week or so later. He got the balance of equity from our deal after his loan on the V was paid off by his credit union. Funds were entirely controlled by our banks as escrow agents. Smoothest transaction ever and I never even met the guy. Now, me not getting a PPI on the car (bought it after only seeing photographs!) is another story I woudn't trust anyone out-of-state to pay off the lien with your money, get title released and sent to you, yikes....this whole process only benefits the seller with no real assurances for you. If your bank won't do it (Fifth Third wouldn't), find a bank that will. If the seller won't do it, find another f**king seller you can trust. My guy was more than happy to let our banks figure it all out for free.

Not for sale, Cody! I know of another 1978 for sale I may try to flip... Thanks for the kind words everyone!

http://i.imgur.com/ulRvTyhl.jpg I've got a few plans over the winter, while it's in storage... - Ffront air bags keep rubbing and either leaking or blowing out. I've had 3 this past year. Going to swap to Slam Specialties SS-7 bags. My research shows that they don't balloon, or expand under pressure. If I keep getting cheap bags at $60 a bag instead of two SS-7's for $199, I'll never fix this problem. - there are a few spots of surface rust on the lower panels. I'll use Corroseal, and touch up paint.

TDI owners stripping their cars before turning them in...
zeitgeist57 replied to HotCarl's topic in Passing Lane
If the guy got away with it, more power to him. Not faulting him for pushing the envelope. Props for VW drawing a line, even if they're still crafting a hipster-approved, PC response. Look at that response on Jalopnik; they still have to walk on eggshells around this issue even when facing an Internet full of TDI owners readying their air tools... I chuckle thinking that if some jamoke tried that in the 1950s (bringing a stripped car back for a company-approved buyback), he'd get kicked out of the dealership onto the curb out in front. -
You know...I leave you guys for a few hours to do some work and go do an office Christmas party at Pins, and you guys go full potato in this thread. Buncha dick-swinging, no-accounting blowhards up in hurr. Douches should be ashamed of yourselves.

LJ's technically right; the house itself is an asset. Property that provides value, hopefully appreciating in time. The mortgage most of us have is a liability.
