https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/02/05/striving-for-mediocrity-is-not-in-our-dna-former.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline Tough read for a C'Bus hometown guy, but can't deny the population growth and money behind Austin. Hopeful new location and new ownership will breathe more life into the Crew. It's good to see all he building going on in the Arena District when you're driving into downtown from 670.

I like this idea, however I'm wondering how many people we can get to volunteer for field work. Who would manage the timing?

I ended up finding a tap that perfectly matched the threads. Been manually hashing the threads this afternoon. Not sure if I can un-gall the top threads...

Rocky, I wanna see pics of the rust...

WTB: Carroll Shelby/Cobra toys, models, memorabilia
zeitgeist57 replied to zeitgeist57's topic in Passing Lane
Aaron, I didn't even think of the modern Shelby Mustangs like what you had. Further evidence of the Carroll Shelby name even today. -
I respect both sides of this argument, but Rocky you're expecting a lot from a $1300 vehicle that runs and drives, IMO. Not claiming to know how the conversations went between you and Slimpsy, though...but if you were looking to flip it FMV on KBB.com shows $2700-4500. I know a normie UA dad rolling around in a $6k used-lot Jeep Wrangler with a fishplated frame. I find it hard to believe that you couldn't see ANY sort of rust concern from looking at it on a driveway. You're putting it out there. I'm just responding with my opinion on what I've read into your review of him.

They are both inside and outside. I just did a 10-minute clean job on one of the adapters: paint brush and old brass brush with some lacquer thinner (just stuff I had lying around). Man, did a great job cleaning up. It's gross the dirt and sediment trapped in the grease. Thinner dissolved the mess with a paint brush easily. The top threads do look flattened like someone torqued them the wrong way. I'd hate to scrap these just for a turn of threads... Time to hit up Ronnie Nutter

Thanks, guys...I’ll try using some solvents to get both the adapter and knockoff cleaned thoroughly first.

I just picked up a set of 15x7" wire wheels for my '79 Lincoln. The adapters are older, somewhat rusty steel, with real Dayton bullet knock-offs that look like they've been hammered on and off with a sledgehammer for the last 30 years. The threads are all greased, and I did loosen up the adapters when they came on the wheels at the time I bought them. But I used some brake cleaner and wire wheels and I'm having a hell of a time trying to spin on 2 of the 4 knock-offs (yes, I have them oriented on the correct sides. ) The insides of the caps also look like they've been at the bottom of a closet; the grease is contaminated with gunk, grit and hair and no amount of wiping with an old rag seems to clean it all up. The adapter threads do have some knicks on them and areas where the thread edges may have contacted a blunt object. The spinners are a soft metal (aluminum? brass?) and they look OK but I'm not sure. These things are 3"+ in diameter...how can I chase the threads on both the adapters and spinner knock-offs? Screwdriver? Special hardened plumbing tool? Do I use a scribe and pull it through the threads to clean and straighten? Some sort of special file? China adapters are $125 shipped...should I get all new threaded adapters and try again, or get new center caps? The wheels are in great shape with minimal wear on the mounting surfaces; it looks like someone got these Dayton adapters old and used and tried them on newer China wire wheels.

Thanks, guys! -
My 8-yo son is doing a "Famous Americans" presentation at the end of February and he chose Carroll Shelby. Yes, I'm proud of him. He's been a Cobra fan since "Ford v Ferrari". Instead of buying die-cast models or stuff I don't have, does anyone have Shelby stuff I can borrow for literally a couple of days so he can have some props for his school presentation? GT40, Cobra models...GLH-S stuff...baseball caps, clothes...anything would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

All good recommendations. The Willis Tower has their observation deck. Was just in Chicago Tues-Wed for all-day meetings...it was cold. Indeed, not the best time to be outside.

Those engine bay pics are AMAZING...not because it's super clean with smoothed fenders and firewall and tucked wiring, but because it has: A/C Water-to-air intercooler Turbo Catch-can and all piping ....and it's super-sanitary. Sexy in it's functionality. You did a great job routing everything. LOVE IT!

For Kia Rio money, you can almost catch a Dinan Stg. 2 BMW M5 on the highway. That’s a $110k car when new!

FiL was a breast cancer surgeon through OhioHealth/Riverside...my wife worked his office for a couple of years as well. The cases I would see her doing for him - pictures of open sores on women's breasts, bruising, etc - were horrific. Many of these women would have lumps for more than a year before they came to the doctor because they were so scared of a cancer diagnosis. It is a horrible, HORRIBLE thing to see. Much love to you and your wife, Vinny. Thankfully treatment has advanced dramatically in the last 10 years, and light years from 30-40 years ago. Love and support are the best medicines for people around her to give.

So...with the Volvo on QuickJacks since before Thanksgiving, I didn't have a ton of time to work on dropping the car. It was mostly evenings, when I wasn't focused on kids/holiday schtuff. It's CR 2019...a lot of you guys know the deal by now. Unfortunately, after further measuring and some research, I apparently received FWD lowering springs, not S60R/S60 AWD springs. You can see how tight the coil is around the rear shock. I had a difficult time with Hangar Racing, the Amazon seller. At first, they said they would consult Vogtland on what's up. After at least a couple of weeks, they never responded. I requested a refund through Amazon, and they said "Tough luck, the return period expired for you." These were uninstalled springs! I was busy dealing with life...by the time I got around to wrenching it was less than 60 days from order. I was pissed, but for $220 springs I wasn't going to waste more time/energy/$$$ at this point. Left a negative review on Amazon for those f-kers aaaaannnndddd... OF COURSE I CUT THE FACTORY SPRINGS. Do you like my wife's new bracelets for Christmas?? She didn't. The front Vogtland springs fit perfectly. Check out that difference! I could almost put on the springs without compressors. Matched the Vogtlands with new struts, and top/bottom rubber spring mounts. Also replaced the end links front and rear all around. Apologies for the pic as I set the car down late last night. At first (as always) the drop in the front was noticable, but not enough. The rear was hilariously high, like nothing happened. I was aware that this may be the case with AWD S60's as forum commenters said the rears on some cars want to maintain their ground clearance. After driving it late last night and around town this morning, the rear settled more than a finger's width...still a lot of wheel gap, but it handles much better and the ride is still surprisingly comfortable despite the 1-1.5" drop and firmer feel. Once the 19"s are on it, I'll re-evaluate the rear springs to see if I have room to drop it further. Despite the issue with the rear springs, overall I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Got hit, how to get the most out of insurance?
zeitgeist57 replied to unfunnyryan's topic in Passing Lane
Did you have additional coverage for aftermarket parts? I've had Progressive for nearly 20 years and they specifically ask for a dollar amount. Sucks to hear! -
I like OneTake's, and was enjoying Matt's drive with the 2020 Boxster Spyder in the background while I was working on my other laptop... $105,000?!??!1 Damn...I know I'm getting older, but 250hp Boxsters are for sale all day long for less than $20k. Is a 414hp Boxster REALLY that special for 5-6x the cost of a well-sorted used one? #newcarpricesLOL
