For the price I paid, Pauly...I wasn't going to be picky. Would've liked a stick but a modern 4-speed auto is fine #meh

I know this is Columbus RACING, but as a long-time member this forum is more to me about local car-guys that turn their own wrenches as much as it is about racing (especially in the wintertime) . With that, as a suburban, white-collar dad cheap pickup trucks have been a part of my "family" since buying my first house with my wife 16 years ago. They represent control in a world where control is taken from you; I have freedom to travel cheaply, ruggedly, move things for myself rather than outsourcing the service, and helping others when they cannot help themselves. As an added side bonus, a pickup truck provides a cheap platform for maintenance-light transportation, as well as a large canvas to get creative. As I've done with previous Cleetii, I'm not afraid to paint an old tee-ruck as opposed to a classic Porsche or '69 Camaro. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95428 Cleetus IV was an amazing truck, carrying myself and my two kids on many local and regional trips; stores, mulch/material runs, and campouts around Central/Southern Ohio. I rebuilt the powertrain myself, and only put 23k miles on it before I was presented with a more modern platform to work with. I admit; having A/C in the summertime and ABS/airbags for the family and I in bad weather is appealing, and I was presented with an offer I couldn't turn down. Sold Cleetus IV to Randy (Otis Nice), and I couldn't imagine a better person to own it. Many happy Ford-powered miles, my friend! Details: Former Shelley Company fleet truck out of Findlay, OH...it's a 2001 Silverado 1500 that's as base as it comes: 4.3L V6, 4L60E Automatic, 2WD, red with plastic blah, and it's fair share of body damage from the ladder rack in the bed and general abuse. But, it's still a regular cab LONG BED which I use as often as I can. The Bad: - Dents on both sides, paint is faded and abused from construction site work. - The GMT800 is a platform where GM cut some corners. The body(rocker, frame) rust is a little ridiculous, and if I don't seal the frame there's going to be problems. Hoping to keep it straight enough for long-term use. YouTube videos tell me I will have problems ahead, but nothing that a few thousand other guys haven't dealt with already. - Needs work! Body? Transmission is making a rattle. Brakes are bad, tires are bad, I'm still making notes. It was put away a few years back at a house on Indian Lake and needs refreshed. The Good: - Modern! Working A/C, stereo system, large 4-wheel disc brakes, etc...Coming from a 1982 truck, it's like a Cadillac. My bar is set pretty low from a creature-comfort standpoint. - "Performance", and I quote that with a grain of salt. Again, the V6 is only 200hp but it's torquey and the truck surprisingly only weighs around 3200 lbs. It has no problem with highway speeds and fuel economy surprises me after '70s/80s powertrains. - 76k miles! She wasn't as abused as you'd think...just neglected from sitting. That's a challenge I'm willing to take. - Still RC/LB which I like (4-door trucks are dumb, you wimpy housing-development cucks) and has a trailer hitch which I've already used. - Robust and inexpensive aftermarket. Plans: - Wheels/tires/stance - Hert @ Hoonigan has a great list that I apply to pretty much every vehicle I own: Put good wheels on it, lower it, and make it loud. I'll pass on the latter, but I've got a great source for rolling stock that I'm awaiting wifey-approval on. Also, looking at doing a 2/4 drop to get a much better stance. - Rust repair. The back bumper is hilarious; will get a rollpan for that. The rockers are already clapped out; will do some frame surface rust removal and treat with Corroseal. Try to make this thing last as long if not longer than my time with Cleetus IV. - Make the interior comfy. If I'm able to wear a suit without sweating through a shirt (eww) during the summer, I'd put more highway miles on her than my other cars. Music would be nice, as I had a broken AM radio in my '82 Ford. - Have fun, of course! I'd like to do some dent repairs, paint rejeuvenation. I've never done a rollpan; looking forward to what that looks like when I'm done. Again, if it seems dumb to do a Project Thread for a V6 truck, this is more my way to keep tabs on it since I don't get deep into FB/Social media. <3

Top 3 Greatest McSteaks of the last 10 years: - Obama hasn't been anything greater than an absentee-voting IL Senator. He'll be a terrible president! - Trump is a great marketer; he's exactly what the U.S. needs in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! - I'm buying BTC at 11,000....because it's going to rocket up to $30,000/share any day now!

It's all perspective. Obama was divisive like Janet Jackson's Superbowl performance was risky prime-time TV. I don't think people anticipated such an unhinged man in Trump having the single-handed power to level 200+ years of growth, progress, and successful rebuild after seemingly insurmountable setbacks.

Thanks for this thread. The steering rack on my CTS-V is leaking pretty badly out of the drivers' side bellow and is apparently a common problem with this generation as they are getting older and higher in mileage. Shot an email to Maval and left a VM for Steer and Gear.

I'm actually good with the commercials on Motor Trend's website now. I get free vids, and I am HOPING that this is a successful model for them to keep pumping out content.

Is there any way you can fix Reverse or does it need a new trans? I know you don't want to work on it but I would think throwing a junkyard TH400 (there's 2 of them in Marengo for $200, according to car-part.com) would net you a fully-driving truck to either use or sell for over $1k... http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=int&userPID=1000&userLocation=USA&userIMS=&userInterchange=%40F%3DF&userSide=&userDate=1987&userDate2=1987&dbModel=15.28.73.73&userModel=Chevy%20Truck-10%20Series%20(1987%20Down)&dbPart=400.1&userPart=Transmission&sessionID=12000000004806176&userPreference=zip&userZip=43220&userLat=40.0480000&userLong=-83.0705000&userIntSelect=375595&userUID=0&userBroker=&userPage=1&iKey=

I haven't watched the last few videos on the Gallardo because they have become too click-baity with the OMG! WTF? pictures and titles...and I miss him working on other projects, like ChrisFix, Gingium or MightyCarMods. I need variety in my free automotive online video content, dammit!

Excellent description of what you wanted out of this platform: a reasonable and attainable list of goals out of the C5 Corvette. Great thread, and looking forward to seeing what else you end up doing with it. Great job avoiding “project creep” as well, where a mild handling improvement ends up being a twin-turbo, rollcaged track car that’s uncomfortable on the street

HAPPY BIRFDAY, SCOTT!

$6,690-$6,715... If bitcoin wasn't, well...bitcoin, I'd be interested in taking a position in it.

^^^No joke My lovely wifey of 15+ years now HATES the BMW. She keeps asking when I'm going to get rid of it. Again....there's a 4-seater RWD stick-shift convertible that's not worth much, but it's replacement would be dumb money to spend.

Sorry, CR - was just messing with the idea of selling the V appreciating that Casey's black '05 was the one I wanted to buy from him before it was wrecked. Honestly, I HATE selling cars. I am really trying to just buy and keep forever, which is why I'm picky. The CTS-V has not only been a favorite of my wife and I since it came out in '04, but my '07 has been an amazing car from 82k miles through it coming up on 124k. As long as the GM LSx market continues to be robust (lol) I can't see ever getting rid of it as I can't get enough money for what it's worth to me. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/729454087/overview/ CTS-V Coupe with a stick. Not as unicorn-ish as the Wagon, but it will be a future classic within 10 years. EDIT: Wow, that Oreo-cookie ATS-V is genuinely hideous. You know that guy saw a C6 with a blacked-out rear panel and said I WANT DAT!!1! Also, I forget that I'm not at all a fan of the block-off plates on the front bumper where fog/driving lights could easily fit. What a cheap-looking McSteak.

My problem with the 1g Genesis is I know a coworker that had his BCM(engine/trans computer) take a shit at 120k-ish, and it was over $1500 just for the part. I couldn't find it cheaper online. He traded it on an Acura TL. Made me weary of the chassis, and now I have a tough time seeing 1g Genesis on the roads these days. Hoping the newer ones don't fall into the same, Chrysler-esque problem of sensitive computer components crapping out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/20x10-Silver-FLARE-Rims-fits-5x114-3-ET42-CB74-1-set-4-Concave/172802311260?fits=Model%3AK900&epid=2154175718&hash=item283bd2045c:g:Fi4AAOSwzXBZgKLN:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!43220!US!-1&vxp=mtr Here are some baller-on-a-budget 20x10's to fill out the K900. You're all welcome.

I'll see your $50k-60k KIA, and raise you... https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/730403305/overview/ A less-than-$28k, 10k mile 2015 KIA with 420hp and every option you could want.

Grant wanted a quote for a 124k mile 2007 CTS-V that was hit/repaired by Kevin Clifford on the passenger side. I know he's not going to follow-through with a deal, so I threw a number knowing I'll never get it.

NPR was broadcasting a deposition Trump sat in back in 2016 when some celebrity chef backed out of opening a restaurant in one of Trump's properties. He swore under oath that he knew the lease the chef signed was done because Don Jr. told him so. The attorney produced the lease, and asked him if this was his own signature. He said it was, and he changed the story to say he was there and signed the lease with the other chef. I'm becoming amazed at the lack of preparation Trump does in his daily life. He's the President; he can and should surround himself with people he can truly trust to give him advice on what to do and how to say it. He chooses to do his own thing anyway.

Great car, great color. Congratulations! I think I learned how to search for solid deals from ChrisFix: 1) Use Autotempest 2) Search for keywords that reference a problem: "Head gasket" "airbag", etc... 3) Sort by best candidates that need minor wrenching 4) Lowball the shizz out of the non-wrenching owners that just want it gone. 5) PROFIT

Tom, thank you for the offer. I'm realizing that I need to figure out the stats for my cars. I may end up just posting it on here since CR is everywhere I go. Andy - thank you for the suggestions as well! I was looking at Rotella T6 for my older vehicles but will research 8100. Despite my cheapness, I'm not upset to spend more on a good oil as I'm usually putting less than 5k miles on each of my cars per year.

https://jalopnik.com/heres-what-the-lincoln-continental-should-have-looked-l-1824077079 Jalopnik posted yesterday about a concept I remember from years ago, which coming out of college reinvigorated my lust for land yachts. Would be cool to see something like this again. Tough to park??? SO IS YOUR FUCKING SEQUOIA. It's time for the Luxo-Barge to regain the streets!

Continuing a lunch discussion - I'm needing to swap out some automotive fluids from age or mileage, and aside from Wal*Mart for basics (oil, coolant, washer fluid) I'm interested to hear where guys get their heavier-use lubricants. Amazon, Jeg's, online auto supply retailer... Transmission Fluid, Differential Fluid, Brake/Clutch Fluid. Looking at the following vehicles, for what that's worth. Thanks! 1978 Lincoln Continental (400ci V8, C6, 9" Ford LSD) 1995 BMW 318i (4-cyl, 5 speed, 4.11 LSD) 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 (V6, 4L60E, open diff) 2007 Caddy CTS-V (LS2 6.0L, 6-speed, LSD)
