  1. Some good points here. Thanks for weighing in guys. I will post what happens, and will post the companies (so if I take the Silicon Valley job Howard can jump on the local one).
  2. I raise the same type of chicken they do, its called a Cornish Cross Rock or Cornish Cross. I don't have anywhere near the mortality rate because I give them the diet they need to ensure they put on bone density and their organs mature correctly. If you just feed them corn/soy, they get huge and keel over. If you supplement them with grasses and bugs they do very well. Hogs are the same, let them run wild in the woods and give them a stable food source. Slaughtering is messy on any scale, but it can be done in a way that doesn't cause so many problems with diseases spreading into the meat. Just involves people rather than machines (companies don't like people).
  3. I raise chickens and turkeys, I don't worry about ANYONE coming and seeing how I do my grow out. The Cornish X chickens do have a high mortality rate when they are not given a clean environment or natural diet.
  4. I will be living in Columbus, just like I have for the last 3 years I have worked out of California. The company has had 5 profitable quarters and hasn't had any VC funding in over 2 years. They are launching some very cool new products next week and they are about to be really busy. I met the Product team, Support, Training and Customer Advocacy, they all seem very bright and have been at the company for a very long time.
  5. Monsanto sued a guy that was cleaning seeds, he didn't have a contract with Monsanto. Seems to me they have a monopoly....would they survive an anti-trust suit? Joel Salatin (Polyface Farms) makes very good points regarding nutrient dense foods and transparency. Why is it that Tyson won't let people into the growing operation?
  6. I have worked out of Silicon Valley for 3 years. I will be home 50% of the time, which is more than my last job. Actually, I am pretty sure the local option will have me home less....
  7. I watched it on the flight back from San Fran. Since I am into the whole real food thing right now I really liked it, but I know not enough people have seen it.
  8. Geo-Thermal DHW. Not flushing necessary.
  9. If they get the offer to me tomorrow, I am probably going to go the IPO route. The $10,000/year more is hard to pass up. Especially given I haven't worked in almost 6 mos.
  10. Your login isn't taking my SQL injection attack so you are good....
  11. Ok, so many of you know I lost my job in September. It has been a crazy amount of interviews (11 rounds with one company, followed by a "your hired" only to have the req get pulled TWICE). Finally, I have interviewed with a company here in Columbus. They are fedexing me an offer tomorrow. Lets say they are offering $X/yr. Bennies don't start until 30 days in, 401K after 1 year. The director calls PTO, Paid to Work Offsite. They are working like mad for the next 6 months and I can expect 12 hour days. The other company is in Silicon Valley. It is a startup that is about to IPO. The pay would be $X+10,000/yr I have to be a contractor for 2 - 3 months and then I go W2. They will give me pre-ipo options, bonuses, and all of that. Their bennies are better than the company here in town, and I would be in California pretty often. With this I will be learning new skills and branching out my knowledge. So, if it where you, which would you pick? I want the startup, but I keep going back and forth...
  12. What is with the $.23? Cant they just charge you the grand?
  13. I used Tax Cut premiere. I am pretty sure I had the maximum complications in my taxes including significant portion of income from ESPP and stock sales.
  14. My neighbor owns/runs TLC pet cottage on Morris Rd in Hilliard.
  15. Which AMEX did you get? The Delta one posts points the day after the billing cycle, for the amount you paid on the previous cycle.
  16. I thought about doing energy surveys with a FLIR a few years ago. I think it would be a good business. I think it is about $300 for an energy survey. check out the green energy ohio website.
  17. Reformat +100000000000000 Then install something to make sure it never happens again. getk9.com, customize for spyware and malware only.
  18. Steiner with a snow blade. Or a tractor with a 3 point plow.
  19. Is it happening on the seams, or on the screw heads? My guess would be the compound didn't cure all the way, or the painting company didn't prime.
  20. If you plan to resell this house, look at the taxes and schools.
  21. found something that might help http://columbus.craigslist.org/grd/1597758443.html
  22. You should have a concrete cap on the house side of your leach field. Pull the cap up and there should be a diverter, you just shift the sides. Should be done every year when you set your clocks back.
  23. Do you have a dual leach field? I have two fields, I switch back and forth every 6 months. Well water has its draw backs, but I prefer it to chlorine.
  24. I am a fairly long lived Columbusite. The first time I had Dim Sum was in Hong Kong. I guess that means it is fairly scarce.
