  1. Open to suggestions on this one, direct manual stimulation is out of the question.

  3. Short answer: pay for a pre-purchase inspection at an independent bmw shop. - valley pan gasket - leaks coolant - must pull intake manifold to replace - slight pain in the ass - oil separator - can cause massive oil consumption - not a terrible diy job - assuming they're original - all cooling system parts will need to be done by 100k - radiator, both rad hoses, expansion tank and water pump. - Valve cover gaskets and vanos solenoid to timing cover seals are common oil leak sources. Brakes are simple and fairly inexpensive Front control arms/sway links/center link are all fairly inexpensive as well I'm probably forgetting a couple large wear items but those are the issues I see constantly. A well maintained e38 is a wonderful thing, a neglected e38 will drive you mad. If I bought one it would have to be the 2001 740iL. http://www.e38.org Slightly dated but still very helpful site on the e38 chassis cars.
  4. Holy shit that's cool. Also, I like the way the web guys have tied the pictures to the text to get more page views, clever stuff.
  5. That's going to be a shitty job, no easy way out, definitely worth paying someone to do. Pressure washer works great but it does fling oil onto other surfaces which calls for secondary cleaning, it can also rupture weak old paper/cork gaskets. Purple power/alkaline based detergents do a good job but they're hell on exposed skin and can tarnish any exposed aluminum. I usually go for a combination of hand scraping, soaking with a petroleum based engine cleaner and scrubbing with a used toothbrush. If I have the engine out of the car I use a pressure washer, can't beat it.
  6. Good lord that's a sweet deal.
  7. Great looking bike, smart man buying in the late fall, probably paid three fiddy for it right?
  8. Piss is probably the least noxious fluid to be found in mirror lake.

  10. I dunno man, given that logic you'll end up doing eight year old's... eight year old's dude.
  11. Crank the front coils up, reasonable ride heights are back in style.
  12. That thing must be a handful. They're exciting enough with an s54, ls1 powaar would make for a crazy tail wagging ride. Do want.
  13. I purchased a bunch of pallet racks from this guy last year, he has a warehouse near Cooper stadium/Sunbelt on Mound st. Good guy to work with, decent pricing and he can deliver if necessary. 15. The 40" is a doorbuster which means you'll need to camp out and risk being crushed just to have a shot at getting one.
  16. Engine bay looks great. I still want your wheels.
  17. Start a spreadsheet to track your win/loss ratio, post findings here.

    ice skating

Ice skating is for girls! Oh wait... yea, carry on. Are the rental skates worth a damn? I tried renting at The Chiller a few years back and the hockey skates were completely un-usable.
  21. What did I win? Cookie? One internet? Schrute Buck?
  22. Not quite as far east as you're looking but Bexley Auto does good work. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=bexley+automotive&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl
  23. If the car was parked somewhere damp you might have a layer of rust built up on the pressure plate/flywheel causing the clutch not to disengage. Have you tried starting it in gear with the clutch pedal depressed?
