  1. Make sure you don't disconnect any harness to the seat without research first. I'm guessing these instructions take that into account since you say just unbolt and move back. But I know if it were me doing this, I would want to disconnect and remove the seat all together to make more room to work. I'm not a pro mechanic (far from it) so ease of doing something trumps speed, I like removing more stuff. Butt a pro's going to want to do it as quickly and do no harm as possible, so that probably means just unbolting and moving the seat back without disconnecting. Depending on the year there could be a ton of stuff in the seat, including airbags. Just disconnecting without some process before could make some system unhappy to see something in there disconnected. That could be as simple as disconnecting the battery, or something more complex. Sometimes the system will be happy when things go back to normal e.g. reconnect the seat. But sometimes the cure is much harder than the prevention in these cases, at least needing some code reset in an ECU reset that 'needs' an 'OEM' tool. So, that might mean having to go to a dealer and paying a tech 0.5 hours to do a few minutes of work. All for something that could have been prevented by a battery disconnect.

Solid advice. My Porsche was like this, I had to pay the dealership to turn the light off after disconnecting the seat.

  2. Understood, but also for most people who counted on a pension in retirement, living solely off SS could mean a big lifestyle change, and in most union jobs you're eligible for retirement after 30 years, meaning many retire before they're eligible for SS.

When I say "got screwed over by the system" I mean that they worked hard jobs with a promise that they would be taken care of later in life. The failure of their pension was no fault of their own, and they had no control over the funds. My mom was in the teachers union and also gets a pension payment every month, so I am sympathetic to the workers and the effect a total loss would have. I have read nothing about this situation besides the link Mace posted, so the entire situation could be more complicated than I know.

While I would not like to see tax dollars ever needed to be spent to bail something out, I also think that ethically making good on a promise made to blue collar workers is a worthy cause, and I wouldn't waste my time trying to attack this as being pork spending or corrupt when there are bigger fish to fry.

I wasn't making a point about that either way, just stating something that on retrospect may not even be relevant to the conversation.

    Carry on. :)

  3. no one will bail me out if my 401k shits the bed

This is the reason for social security. Not to be a retirement plan, but a backup in case private funds get depleted. Implemented after the market crash that led to the great depression.

  4. Also, how many guns were used in the “insurrection” by protestors? The answer is 0. But yet we were told it was an armed insurrection. Not a single person charged or accused of having a gun. The “weapons” they list are a baton, flagpoles, basically anything that can be used as weapon (trashcan).

If someone is brandishing a weapon and threatening to use it, they are armed.

  5. I dont think anyone here is having their minds changed. Do you? Is that what you're expecting?

If I'm having a good-faith discussion with someone, yes, I expect someone to change their opinion at the end of the discussion, or at least learn something.

I think we are all here just shouting our opinions at each other while big brother aims the magnifying glass at groups of people until they burst into flames.

That's what it looks like from outside the discussion, and I don't understand the point.

I dont agree with greg or Kerry 99% of the time, maybe you too idk. Using the same tactics, virtue signaling and gaslighting against the left leaning on this thread is now a troll move? Also, where did I insult anyone in this thread? On the contrary, id happily shake hands with anyone here, unless your worried about COVID, we can air fist bump. I can completely disagree with someones politics, but still find commonality with them. I do it everyday.

It's a troll move for sure, especially if it's against someone specifically for their ideology or party rather than specific policy. Looking back, I think that has offended me more than anything you've specifically said to anyone personally. I think I took your general view (seemingly looking down on those who disagree with you, it comes across pretty arrogant) as offensive and as attacks. Yes I understand the irony in me saying that.

Looking back on your posts, you are right, you never insult anyone directly, but you are insulting to groups of people (once again, usually the groups who disagree with you).

I can't speak for Greg or Kerry. I usually agree with Kerry politically but he's such an offensive person to me that I have placed him on 'ignore' here on CR so I don't see his posts. Once again, I feel that engaging with him is ignorant and pointless. He adds nothing to any discussion that I've seen. Your posts at least have clarity and intelligence, he gets emotional and goes off on tangents. I've engaged him in the past for the same thing. I believe he is incapable of learning. And yes, he absolutely is a troll for using the tactics he uses.

  7. Your encouragement of this impeachment when you knew there was no way 2/3 was voting to convict....wowie

It was a distraction from what they need to actually do. You know that you just won’t admit it.

Why is your go-to reply just to repeat what your opponent says? I'm asking honestly.

BTW, your response to this post is how I view the entire thread - why argue about it when arguing does no good? It's a literal waste of time.

  8. Finally got around to funding and putting money into a Roth-IRA. Who else does this and what funds are you putting your money in with this? I mainly look at expense ratios and returns for the last year. What are other things I should be looking at? so far I've put money into SCHX, and SCHG. Been looking at others to get into, VIO? VOO? what does CR recommend?

A self managed retirement fund can invest in real estate. Read up, follow the rules, and talk to Brad on here (Zx2guy or something) about investing. You can't touch real estate returns for investing.

  9. I do not know at what temps you have time to get out of harms way to avoid serious burns.

At 190, the temperature it was being served at, it removes flesh from bone within 2-7 seconds. They have since modified the temperature at that location to 158 degrees, which is still damn hot. Over 700 people had been burned and there were internal communications at McDonald's that stated they knew the risks of coffee that hot. It's absolute criminal negligence at that point.

The woman did not sue to get any money for herself, she only asked for her medical bills to be covered. The jury awarded her punitive damages on their own due to the severity of the negligence in this case.

  10. So this is kinda like that lady ordering hot coffee from McDonald’s and promptly pouring it down her pants, then suing them for not putting a “hot” label on it?

    Fuck these types of people.

How much could I pay you to pour 190 degree coffee on your genitals, burning away all skin and fat and disabling you for 2 years? $480k? That's what she ended up with.

There is an entire semester on this case alone if you go to law school

This was one of the most successful smear campaigns ever started by a corporation against a consumer.

  11. The email I got from TD Ameritrade:

    Dear Mensan,

We are in the midst of an unprecedented week in investing. It has included some of the highest-volume days in history.

I want to acknowledge that this week's trading volume and volatility across our entire industry has led to significantly increased call volumes and hold times for our clients, as well as challenges for some with our platforms at market open. Nothing is more important to us than serving you. We understand that service disruptions are frustrating and want you to know that we take these issues very seriously and sincerely apologize for any problems this may have caused.

In some cases, the volatility we are seeing in a small number of stocks has forced us to put restrictions in place. These restrictions will not prevent clients from buy and sell transactions. For the latest list of impacted stocks, visit tdameritrade.com/restricted.

  12. ...I would 100% vote for Tulsi if she made it as the Dem candidate. The left won’t let that happen. Me, as a guy that voted against the left would vote to put a dem In power because I truly think she is level headed and has great ideas and stances on issues that effect us. Also, she’s a woman of color. So the whole trump voters are racists, bigots and sexist is out the window....

I just want to point out to anyone reading this thread that this isn't how racism or anti-racism works.

  13. That doesn't surprise me. I've talked to several people that have had it and months later are still a little off one way or the other. There's definitely an age aspect and severity of infection to it. At this point I'm just thankful I didn't get the respiratory issues from it because that really worried me. I had a lung infection 2 years ago that did a number on my lungs....they haven't been the same since so I was worried. I can deal with the fatigue and brain fog....I didn't want to have to cart an oxygen tank around which is what my older brother is doing now after he got it.

I had it and struggle constantly. I have a hard time breathing, and I can feel my heart rate change, in a bad way, 3-4 times per week. I need to go get checked out.

They are saying that Post-Covid patients, even those who were asymptomatic, have serious long-term scar tissue damage to the lungs.

  14. That's craziness ..leather stretches how can it still be working properly??

    Those pics were awesome !!

From an engineering perspective everything has a useful expected life. Parts need to be changed on a scheduled basis to ensure it's working properly. If a machine is engineered properly, and maintained the way it should be, and the part was made with no defects, it should always work as expected. Since the previously listed items are almost never at 100%, we have failures.
