Hmmm where else might we find this story... http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/opus.asp

OMG no kidding. I was out on the bike yesterday sitting at an intersection with two lanes in either direction, and everyone stopping and looking like they should be, when this guy races up in the other lane and shoots right through the intersection as fast as he can. It's not just no-cop-no-stop, its downright malicious. Makes me sick. Where on earth are the police during all this? The intersection at 315 and Hard rd was out yesterday too, and while things were pretty orderly the traffic on 315 was probably a mile long thanks to the slowdown. They can find 2 cops per intersection to stand around on campus watching traffic every OSU game day, yet something like this happens and they are nowhere to be found. What gives?

Not between Bill and Jerry, they are both entertainment. If you think Bill is up there every night to enlighten you to anything but his desire to hear himself speak, you are fooling yourself. The sad fact that he gets air time on a "fair and balanced" news network is beyond the scope of this discussion, he is a personality and that's what people tune in for.

That's like saying people respect Jerry Springer. Get real.

I watched it, but Bill O'rly spent all his time trying to prop up ridiculous questions, most of which were about how G W Bush wasn't "really" doing a bad job. Maybe if ANYONE had respect for Bill the interview would have gotten more play. As it is, I give Obama credit for even going on the show, regardless of what they talked about.

Which way to the "didn't lose power at all" thread? Over there? OK.

How many CR members does it take to change a light bulb?
jeffmeden replied to SpaceGhost's topic in Dumpster
You aren't supposed to touch the twisty part when changing a compact fluorescent bulb because they are both very fragile, and filled with a toxic material (Mercury). Break the bulb off, and you have two problems! *Always* grip the bulb by the plastic base when installing or removing. And as far as the list of members required to make one post... Here is a timely addition that fits CR a bit better: 2 to complain about how Republicans don't care about blown out light bulbs (it should be your freedom to sit in the dark, damn it) 3 to complain about how Democrats would make light bulbs better for everyone (if given the chance and enough tax dollars) 3 to complain about how Ron Paul would have eliminated light bulbs altogether and that the system is broken since we have been using tungsten to brighten our homes for 100 years now and the founding fathers didn't need any of that crap. 1 to "remind" everyone that the elections are a sham and that all politicians are alike (They all want to see their own privileged asses get a position of power) (what were we talking about anyway?) -
so what do al the rest of you think about this? (computer geek stuff)

Huh? Nvidia is getting out of the chipset business anyway, that was announced like a month ago. As far as the whole lawsuit thing, it's the shareholders bringing a suit against the company for not disclosing the supply problems they have had. If the problems turn out to be costly, and there is a paper trail showing that management knew what was about to happen, it could get ugly. At least, as far as the stock price is concerned. Nvidia has enough other business to keep it afloat. -
You mean God is Will Wright? I believe it.

If you think "McCain = Bush", your a complete and total douche

How, pray tell, did he get the nomination then? -
I won't name names, but ALL cable cos have a 'flexible' price schedule depending on how bad they want to keep your business. Just tell them you are going to cancel and they magically tell you the 'real' price of the service.

You forgot MILF jokes. Definitely not the same for pitbulls.

Am I the only one who sees a problem with voting by the "whoever taxes me less" test? I know this has been hashed back and forth a dozen times but isn't it just a tad pathetic to say "well as long as *I* don't have to pay..."? How about voting for the plan that will improve the economic output of the country while cutting waste, which is about the only thing that will truly help us out of our absurd debt situation? I'm not picking sides, but every time I hear the "well as long as he lowers MY taxes" argument, I throw up a little in my mouth. As far as Palin goes, I am unconvinced. Tell me it's hard to govern a state of 683,000 (effectively about 2/3 the responsibility of Mayor Coleman.) Tell me it's hard to manage a budget that's made up of huge oil company tax revenues. She is good at giving a speech, no doubt. But, isn't that the same thing they are attacking Obama for? Being a 'rhetoric spewing pop-star'? I hear a lot of shallow insults on the Republican side, and not enough of what they are going to do to change the course of the current, tragic Republican administration. If they can provide evidence that this is part of their plan, they may attract my vote.

Wat I have 1400 sq ft and a shared wall (condo end unit) and its pushing the 180 mark for these hot months. The a/c is at 74 and every excuse i have to shut it off (like if its cool outside in the morning) I do. We don't have many computers, TVs, lights, etc on either. I think they must have insulated the place with dead rats or something, the A/C runs way too much for what it does.

Anyone going to use this thing when Google releases it?
jeffmeden replied to SpaceGhost's topic in Dumpster
What i got out of the comic: it's multithreaded. Wow. Finally I can use all 4 cores in my machine for web browsing! The internets will be like instant! -
Monoprice.com is the only place for HDMI or component cables. I have bought probably half a dozen from there, two of which i use as a 'ghetto switchbox' to plug either my dvd or my 360 into the tv. I have had no problems at all with them, I would be much more worried about the connector in the TV coming loose than the cable going bad. When you can get 5 shipped to you for the price of the 'cheap' one at best buy or circuit city, it's a no-brainer. Cable markups are ridiculous anyway.

How about this: 1. Get a dock for the laptop 2. Attach both monitors to the dock 3. Stuff the extra PC somewhere else so it doesn't take up your space 4. Get rid of the zillion cables back there Remote desktop and/or Virtualization was born for that. From my desktop I have ready access to 24 cores of cycle crunching goodness. All that's in my cube is a laptop and an extra monitor.

Good point, legislative branch ftl? I just hope she has some teeth, she is going to be in for something a bit more challenging than running for office in Alaska. I mean, how hard is it to accuse Ted Stevens of impropriety?

I see that now. Whats his problem with using an img tag?

No one posted this pic yet? http://bp0.blogger.com/_hWAVXHNngbk/R2PlYvMVm5I/AAAAAAAAAPQ/bsqIRFnjQ90/s320/Sarah-Palin-Vogue.jpg No, I didn't photoshop that. I swear.

If you want high quality at a low price, since you don't really need long duration shots, you can't beat a point-n-shoot still camera with a long zoom. The line between still cameras and video cameras is getting fuzzier by the day, especially if you don't need 2+ hours of consecutive video.

I think what he meant (not trying to put words in his mouth though) is that the political football of Farmers getting a tax break on buying fertilizer is the LEAST of our worries given the problems the government, and most of the private sector, faces elsewhere.

lolz no way I got this about an hour ago too, I am on verizon. I looked up the bank, email domain, and ph num and concluded that it was either a really really poorly thought out advertising campaign for this new 'bank' here in cols, or it was a scam. Thought about calling the number to harass them, but spending time posting on CR is more fun. Follow up: do you suppose they scraped the numbers off the internet somewhere, or are just randomly texting? You would think that doing the latter would result in pretty instant banning of the sender by the carrier. Verizon is probably seeing a shit storm of complaints about this.

Lots of good advice here. I would add that if your best hope is to get a D in a class and you can afford to drop it, drop it. The damage to your GPA can't be bought back. Also, most people don't consider a D passing.
