1400whp GT5588 Supra vs. 2 1500whp UR Stage 1 R Lambos
ohioko4s4 replied to ohioko4s4's topic in Pics and Vids
We're not going to run the Ohio Mile - the Maxton rule package is too prohibitive. I'm not even sure my 25.5 drag Supra would pass tech.... The AMS drag car trapped 173.x in difficult conditions Sunday. To put it perspective, I only trapped 188 - granted we pulled a lot of power out to keep it on the track - but that AMS car will trap damn near 180 when it's fully turned up on a perfect track. It should be a great race in Dallas next month, but the winner will most likely have dialed in just the right enough boost to keep it planted on the runway. So I imagine the loser will complain that they 'had alot left on the table'. My SL is as powerful as UR can build on 67's. A stage 2 R swaps in 71's, but boost recovery is poor and you have to spin near 9k, so it's still an unproven 'street' package. No customer cars have been delivered yet with 71's. -

The Silver Supra I ran in TX would have but a bus length on my old Supra. I was making 1200 back then and the Silver Supra makes 1400. The technology is much better now, so the billet 5588 spools faster than my old journal bearing 4780 and still makes more top end. There really isn't anymore power you can put down on that set-up. Remember, Tag would only run us from a 75 roll at his perfect 5300 rpm with a spool up shot. If we went from 40, or even 60, it would have been much worse. As much as I love Supras, a properly built GTR making 1300 would beat that Silver Supra 4 out of 5 times and do it from any speed. I'm running the AMS shop drag car next month in Dallas and that car 'should' beat my Gallardo from a 60 roll. So should be really interesting. -

No. There were 4 lambos racing: SW (orange) and Eric (white) both were stock clutch 1250 cars. And Kevin driving a customer car (orange) and me (matte white) at 1500+. Eric sort of fucked up the curve as he had a tough weekend - was racing people in the wrong gear, not brake boosting, etc. So it created a lot of confusion as to why he lost, but SW beat the same GTR, etc. Yes, Seafish owns the silver Supra, but had Tag drive it for him. -

UR has a 3 year track record with over a 100 cars built and was #2 to market. They have moved far beyond 'first mover advantage'. There have been multiple companies that have tried to 'out build' UR but all have failed or been put on hold. There is no question the engineering can be improved upon (especially IC efficiency and Kevin knows that), but at this point, everything works ok and there isn't a need. These builds aren't complex, but take quite a bit of time to source the correct parts - many pieces which UR has an exclusive. If I owed a shop, I'd be thinking the same thing - this isn't rocket science. No question Switzer could do a killer job on a Gallardo if he had a 12-18 month R&D time and budget. But the fact is UR has such an aggressive marketing platform on top of loyal customers that it is a very hard market to break into with success. There has been lots of shit talking around IPS's Murci build and how they are going to take it to UR. I wish David the best. There is a reason why UR has only built a few cars on that dated platform. They'll find out soon enough. -

Kevin was driving that orange SL on behalf of a customer. Yes, pretty similar, but I was running slightly more boost and have a different billet trans combo. Yes, I ran Dover's turbo busa the night before. Our camera coverage isn't great since we lost the side camera a few miles before. We're trying to find the camera that was mounted on Dover's bike.... -
Here's a pretty good video shot from Tag's Supra of me (white) and Kevin (orange) on the highway after Tag whooped up on SW the night before.... UR is coming out with some video I believe later tonight shot from my car.

Sure, I'll run you in Dallas if you want after we finish the airfield roll on race. Either out on the highway or I'll see if Amar is ok doing an 'expo' run after the street king event is over.
-
Correct. The 'stages' are a bit confusing. But basically an R includes a built head, a built driveline, and a Tilton so that you can turn the boost up. Stage 2 R builds swap the 67's for 71's. There are no cars running 71's at the moment - boost recovery is poor and you have to rev them to 9k - which creates problems. There are no running stage 3 R builds other than a dyno graph showing what a 76 set-up could do. Most UR cars run a stock clutch and can turn boost up to 1200, sometimes 1300, before it starts to slip.

Dover, It was nice to finally meet you. Pretty ironic that the turbo bike everyone was talking about that night was yours. I wish I knew it was you riding before we left and we could have better set up a run - I didn't have any clue what bike was next to me and KC and I were wondering if it was stock or modded before we hit it. Kevin told me they are getting close to releasing a video of some of the runs form the weekend, so hope that run is included. Yes, this year seemed more chaotic than past years for some reason. Maybe due to the crowds, maybe due to egos. We used to run for 3 straight hours every night from 1-4am, and 'might' have had a handheld camera. I remember bringing down my Z06 and going through 3 bottles on the feeder roads before even getting to the highway runs. Now, with so much riding on who wins and loses, it's a pretty different scene. With some of the cars as fast as they are, the days of running around in bigger packs and lining up random roll-ons is gone.

JP, I have a near new JVC Procision DLA-X90RBU projector. It's a top rated DLIA that has 100 hours on it. I've had a number of projectors over the years (Runco, Sony, JVC) and this is the nicest I've had. Check it out. It's being stored with my AV installer at the moment. Let me know if you're interested.

Yea, we were hoping to be lazy and stay mostly local as Milan is 25 min from my shop. Jeff has always been pretty good to us f2f, but it struck me as odd that he hammered down on this rule recently with no data/reason to back it up. It's not like we're a tenth faster than the field. I thought Renegade was mirroring their OLS rule package with Milan? So we'll check out Renegade and will make sure we're there if the AMC Boyz show up. Thompson is a questionable track though - I hit a goose at a TnT last year....
-
Jeff and his staff were asking us all last year to run OLS and then all of a sudden last month played the rule package against us. So not sure why. Online calculators don't work well with turbo cars. Enter my data from last year and it says I'm making 1850whp - so only about 450whp off....
-
Thanks Ray. We were really looking forward to running Milan's OLS this year as we finally are starting to sort out our new combo but Jeff won't let us run with 2 power adders. They let 4 cyl run but not 6 cyl with nitrous. Given their low car count and the fact we'd be the only import, we were surprised they wouldn't update the rule package. Could you help us lobby them?
-
I didn't either. HP = trap speed, and you wouldn't trap that slow making 1800 You weighed 3650? I remember Mark saying it weighed 3400.
-
Really? I trapped 12 mph faster with 400 less hp and weighed within 150 lbs of the Z06 last year.
-
Will you be ready for the April IFO race? I'll fly back if you are.
-
Yea, for street racing, a properly set up GTR will pretty much kick the shit out of anything out there. But nothing will touch a Lambo from a 60 roll, and they're a cooler car, but hard to justify the extra $100k+. We're going to race a GTR in my car in TX from multiple speeds to finally put this to bed. Those Russians are a bunch of clowns and fucked up the Lambo as soon as they got it with another "shop" messing with them.... The GTR also blew up....but since it was sponsored by Dragtimes, it was never shown....
-
Rob's a street racer and tight lipped on his set-up, but I believe it has Indy heads, a big progressive nitrous set-up, 29.5 slicks, etc. It's a faster set-up than when I ran him years ago in my black Supra. I imagine it runs low 9's on the street in the 160's....
-
Thanks...if you could would be great.
-
Thanks. Wife isn't keen on me getting a bike....and I understand why. I can take the ferry in when I'm working in the city, but I just don't want to beat that car up out there. I've been working in SF for about 10 years, so know the area well. You can't tell unless you're up real close....then it just looks like it has more orange peel than typical GM paint. I've driven both and the 500 model available today sucks just about as bad....!

Mark, who is hosting the Thurs rental?

Thanks guys. Somehow I always find a way to take a bath on about every car I sell!

Hey guys, So I’m considering selling my 2009 auto CTS-V. We are moving to Tiburon, CA in a couple weeks and after thinking about the hassle of shipping, re-tuning for 91, and all the registration headaches, it seems like it may make more sense to just sell the car before we move. I hate to do it because I absolutely LOVE the V as a daily driver, but the thought of commuting into San Francisco with the horrible parking garages, etc., makes me just want to blend in and get a Prius. It is in absolutely perfect shape inside and out. No nicks, scratches, or chips anywhere. This is partly due to the fact that I had the entire car wrapped in a 3M cleat bra (except roof). As a result, it is practically maintenance free as far as a black car is concerned. It’s loaded with the exception of Recaro seats. I also added D3 lowering springs, powder coated the OEM wheels in black chrome, and tinted the windows (40%). It currently has approximately 9800 miles. Patrick Sparks of Quality Motorsports did the engine modifications. In addition to the standard V bolt-ons (using some LPE pieces), we changed the cam, springs, and swapped the rear end to a new 3.73 from the 6-speed. We retained the stock downpipes and exhaust (with a cat delete) so it is still very quiet. It dyno’d 609whp on Andy’s dyno down in Dallas, Tx last fall. It’s been to the drag strip once, running a 10.92 @ 126.5 on its second pass before they stopped me. Oil has been changed 3 times. Factory recall on the rear toe link bolts was completed a few months ago. The only issue I’ve had with the car is the driver’s side magnetic door release was replaced while it was in for the recall. It runs perfect and my wife who occasionally drives it can’t tell it’s not quite stock. I’m happy to take some pics and send to anyone who might be interested. I have $18k in mod/appearance receipts. I would sell for $52k for a quick sale. Title in hand. As a little bonus, below is a short iphone video of me running my friend’s 2011 458 last month from a 40 roll. He shut it down before it got too ugly.

Perhaps, I didn't watch the entire video, but Scotty owns an 09 Murci Roadster, three 08 Gallardo Spyders, 11 Tesla, 94 Supra, among others.... -

Those are Scott Klabunde's cars. He owns Zimmer Orthopedics. Good guy.
