  1. I feel some aerodynamic development for the new car coming on.
  2. High winding SBC with 180 degree headers.
  3. My plan was to go around the slower classed car on the outside of turn 8 and have an inside line on the silver BMW I had been wearing down into turn 9. Well, I was a little further out there than I intended. The damage pics on my facebook page are from an incident in Friday's qualifying race. I had the pole for that race and blew it too. All in all, an awesome week of racing. I'll be there next year either in Black Betty or something new.
  4. Well, more like 2 minutes of fame... scratch that... disaster. Competing in my first NASA National Championship race, I got impatient and pulled a bonehead move. Fast forward to 284.30 for my appearance and 286.50 for my embarrassment:lolguy: http://www.speedcasttv.com/nasa/#/races/243 Still pulled off a 5th place finish, should have been a podium:doh:
  5. Posting this for a friend. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2548687249.html This car is super clean and done right.
  6. Already a few cheap cars with potential mentioned. A few more, 1st and 2nd gen RX7, early Honda Civic or Del Sol, even early Miatas are getting down in that price range. If you want to just have fun, that can be done in anything. If you want to learn to go fast, start in a slow car with a proper transmission. An automatic with a lot of horsepower will only teach bad habits and hinder driver development.
  7. Spend your $2K on a beater to autox untill you buy a Vette. There are far too many compromises to make a car dual purpose, especially with a slush box. More importantly, go to an open lapping day on a real racetrack. If you thought the parking lot stuff was fun, a real track will be more of an automotive orgy.
  8. 4 used but plenty of rubber left RA1s. Last time out at Mid Ohio I found them to be past their prime but they would be great for track days and open lapping events. $100
  9. Automatic :dumb: Flex exhaust :dumb: Hideous frame construction :dumb: What appears to be standard fair passenger car suspension robbed from who knows what :dumb: Might be Ariel inspired but oh so poorly executed.
  10. Taste the rainbow Disclaimers, *NWS I'm guessing *Possible repost
  11. If you are serious I do still have all my jigs and equipment that I used to narrow and widen my RX7 wheels. Narrowing is more involved of a process than a simple widen job so it doesn't come cheap. On the plus side, I can guarantee the runout will be at or less than as from the factory. And no, I will not share the my secrets on the process :finger:
  12. It was hard as hell to set the timer just right and race into frame with such precision :lolguy: Mad props to my buddy Dave who shot that one and many more.
  13. You guys have it all wrong, this is how you do black and white. Note, matching driving attire is a must. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/949667442_img_1889.jpg
  14. Kind of a loading question, depends on cage, how much of interior will remain and so forth. If it helps any, my GTUs race car has an all iron 3800V6/T5 transmission, extensive rollcage, ~250lbs. of ballast. With my 145lbs. plus race gear and 1/8 tank of gas I cross the scales at 2870lbs. Minus me, gas, and ballast the car should be right at 2450lbs. Subtract the weight of a 3800 and T5 and you have your answer for a gutted and caged FC roller.
  15. JP, you won't find a better combination of clean shell/lightweight FC around. The GTUs is the lightest S5 FC. The only things that make it heavier than an impossible to find in good condition non sunroof base model S4 FC are parts you would strip off anyway, electric seat belts and beefier dash under structure.
  16. Not only safe but very fun. It was built as a test track, so every corner was designed to find the limitations of a car, not the driver. What is impressive is the way these different corners flow so well into each other. I can't stress enough what a delight this track is to run on. Only corner to be concerned with is #10 which leads onto the front straight, only because there is a wall pretty close on corner exit. This is really not a big deal unless you are racing for a win. For an open lapping event just use good judgement through 10 and enjoy pushing you and your car in the other 95% of the track. I'd be happy to share my track notes on Putnam for anyone interested in improving their driving skills. Depending on how my racing season pans out, I might just show up and let everyone from CR see my tail lights:p

I've seen you "work", you deserve nothing better. I may just have to get my riding lawn mower running for this awesome meet.
  18. Glad to see you in a 911 again... even better yet a GT3 in a sexy color.
  19. One of my favorites of Black Betty that my good friend Dave shot http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/tinman180.jpg It's a race car wearing 22 year old paint with some battle scars, but he makes it look decent.
  20. Would you take a hungry man frozen dinner to a master chef and ask him to cook it for you? Don't take a "kit" to a master fabricator and expect them to take the job.
