  1. Can I get an hour slot to allow for some tuning? Brian, can I ask you to do the unthinkable? I need you to pull out around 6hp on the V6 RX7 to meet NASA's power to weight limit.
  2. Care to express why you have a negative opinion of Putnam Park? Gingerman is nice but nothing special. It's fun but not very challenging. I believe the addition/expansion will be ready to race on this season though.
  3. Personal taste changes too much to pick an all time favorite. As of lately though, yea, I dig disco, so what? Or another modern throw back,
  4. Hogdaddy, you fat bastard, who let you in here? It's cool, I'm skinny
  5. Thanks everyone, it wasn't worth posting pics untill Rolla made it shiny. Draco, this car started off as a cheap daily driver that I pieced together as a back burner project. Progressed to a track whore/dd and now is being built for NASA Performance Touring racing. Scott, yes I think I remember you and your car, and yes he is.
  6. I won't bore you will the build photos, just the final product. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_2065s.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_2067s.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_2066s.jpg A huge thanks to Rolla for coating the cage, interior, engine bay, and inner fenders with a proper automotive finish. No spray bombs here.
  7. Rt.62 BBQ in Johnstown is the best I have found and I travel South quite often. It's just a tiny joint, only seats 10 or so people.
  8. It's a great track, probably my favorite at this point. Very little in the way of elevation changes though. I'll be there for both NASA dates.
  9. Thanks guys. Clark, deliver the strippers over here. I'll build the pole.
  10. On the FCs it's a two part process, both pretty simple. First, I mill the tops of a pair of Delrin differential bushings at an angle and to a certain height. Can't remember off hand what angle or height I used but the math is easy and will vary depending on the transmission output shaft height and angle. Care has to be taken to get them properly indexed in the housing and a spacer is needed to take up the distance below the housing or the nuts will not tighten completely. This raises the rear of the differential housing. The second part requires some welding and there are two ways to get the same result depending on the cars purpose. A solid front differential mount can be fabricated in a manner to lower the pinion end of the differential to the point the center section nearly touches the subframe. Or if the factory rubber mount is preferred, the subframe can be modified to alter the mounts attaching point. In either case the subframe should be reinforced at the mount location.
  11. It can be difficult to get correct or even acceptable pinion angle on an engine swapped RX7 due to the output shaft of the transmission being much lower than originally. This is because the rotary's engine eccentric shaft is in a higher location than the crankshaft of a piston engine, therefore the transmission output is equally out of place. Most shops ignore this step in the process and many get away without any problems. But you're leaving horsepower on the table and setting yourself up for accelerated drivetrain wear if the problem is not addressed. I have found a solution for FCs and have tens of thousands of miles and multiple track days with zero issues. But I don't have any experience with FDs. I would suggest finding a competent fabricator to take a look at your car and find a proper solution.
  12. The bolt pattern is correct and the offset is in the right neighborhood but I have zero experience with DSMs to know of any caliper clearance issues or center bore sizes. I'm sure if you asked around there are plenty of people that would know for sure.
  13. That was last years program which was a great success. They are supposed to do a similar or exactly the same program this year. I'm waiting on an announcement on this year's deal so I can get a few chances for a free race and get some guys in for free.
  14. Cool, you can be the one to issue the log book to the V6 RX7. Don't worry about the little red button on the gear shift or the steel braided line running from the roll cage, it's legal I plan on being there all three days. Comp school on Friday and racing Saturday and Sunday. Ben, you should come to Putnam Park with us. Fun track and same great people.
  15. Decided against running 15s on the PTD car, so these are up for sale. First $200 gets them, no more no less. Never curbed or damaged in any way but one wheel has some tiny chips in the red strip, see pic. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_1980.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_1981.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t55/tinman_015/100_1982.jpg
  16. If all else fails, http://www.mcmaster.com/#
  17. There are many ways. Come up to a Funday at Nelson Ledges or join NASA and get some great instruction at Mid Ohio.
  18. NASA's schedule, http://www.nasagreatlakes.com/season/ 3 weekends at Mid Ohio again this year.
  19. They have come a long way since then but still far from what you find at most other tracks.
  20. The track surface will probably be the worst you have ever driven on. After a few laps you get used to it and the adjusted line you will need to run. The facilities are also on the rough and sparse side but neither of these issues prevent me from making the three hour trip up there multiple times a year. They have started a driver instruction program up there. I have only heard from those attending but it sounds like a very decent one. The only thing it lacks is in car instruction, if you can provide that you may have something going. Any idea what the cost would be for a day or whole weekend? Can you offer reduced rates for instructors?
  21. It's going to be hard to put together a track day there unless you can beat their $120 Fundays.
