  1. Well since the Oven thread has closed I thought I would invite Hal to run against a stock V6 on a real track here instead. First off, let me say that this is probably only being posted as I have had a few and have not posted here much lately and it's getting pretty fucking boring on CR. Secondly, I know nothing of Hal and very little about his car, only what was posted in the oven thread. But I would like to see him bring it out to Mid Ohio or Nelson Ledges and see how he does against a little n/a V6. I will be at the Mid Ohio NASA event on the 16th and 17th and invite him to come out and compare lap times. If it is too late to register I'm sure we can meet at Nelson Ledges before they close for the season. The car in question is my daily driver 89 RX7 with a stock GM 3.8. It puts down a measly 187rwhp and weighs 3000lbs. with me and a full tank of gas on board. The only change I make for the track is alignment settings, everything else remains the same as my daily 50 mile commute.
  2. It's been discussed before but once again, it's not a good idea to run a multi point harness without a rollbar or rollcage. 3 point safty belts allow the torso to be pushed to the side when the roof collapses from a roll over, a racing harness will not. Don't be too concerned with tires, brakes, or any fancy racing gear for your first time on track. Just be sure to have enough tread and pad to get through the event and bleed the brakes with some decent fluid.
  3. Labor Day weekend is rumored to be the last time any tires contact the current surface.
  4. With only half the horsepower it's hard to run down the vettes on the straights. But in the corners some of the vette drivers become roadblocks.
  5. I'll be there in the beater again. Those of you in Corvettes, please get out of my way this time
  6. I'll be running Saturday and Sunday and will probably stop out Friday. Be sure to print out the HPDE tech form from NASA's website and bring it with you. Your battery must be secure, the tech will give it a good shake along with the wheels, seat, and seatbelts.
  7. Why a heavy, power robbing , too steep first gear TH400?
  8. Might be time for a new liner. Pull the current one out and check for kinks and wear through.
  9. I can't recommend the Fundays at Nelson enough. Great track and laid back atmosphere, always a good time. I have to work on the 20th, the only Friday all year I need to be there. But I will be there on the 27th. I hope those of you that go on the 20th have a good time and if it rains, I'll see you the Friday after.
  10. Lose some weight you fat bastards. This weather is near perfect.
  11. If you are running a flat tappet cam in this day and age you need to a zinc additive for your oil or run a zinc rich racing oil like Brad Penn Oil or Joe Gibbs Oil. Even diesel oil has little to zero zinc in it anymore.
  12. Andy, come on now. There is no reason for the guy with the cleanest cars on CR to have those hanging out of the tail. You spend to much time in front of people on the track to have the rear of your car look like that.
  13. Just back from Putnam Park Road Course where my bone stock 3800 was passing an M3, C5 Z06, Lotus Exige, and numerous other cars. Long broad torque curve FTW.
  14. Well, I love the idea, the fabrication leaves alot to be desired though. If he can get the front suspension geometry correct, that should be a very fun car. He may want to swap to a lower numerically rear gear also, I wish I could do the same with my 3800 powered FC but 3.90 is as low as Mazda went. I can testify to the durability and performance of the 3800 engines, mine has seen 7 trackdays without the slightest hint of a problem and runs quicker in the 1/4 mile than a TII.
  15. no matter what time you show up you're still losing... Derek posting under Matt's name Matt Johnston-professional mach 1 shaker fabricator/ professional pimp
  16. The past three or so batteries I bought were "year olds" or scratch and dent from Interstate Batteries on Westerville Rd. They usually have a few laying around and sell at a good discount.
  17. I have no excuse for not running the V6 RX7 now.
  18. I had to pass that pesky Z06 2 or 3 times Friday Thanks for the short vid and the pictures

    gun control?

You, the government, or even that fat cunt rosie will ever prevent criminals from possessing guns, so why keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens?
  20. I was in my beater, the black 2nd gen RX7. I remeber seeing your Mini in the grid but didn't see you on the track.
  21. Definitely a good time up there today. The rain made things interesting but in a way I'm glad it was wet. I probably would not have gone if I wasn't prepaid and would have missed the chance to work on my wet driving. Mike, you should have stayed for the last session, most of the track was almost dry. There were only a few real slick spots. After that third session I can understand why you didn't hang around though, especially with doubts about your brakes.
