Has anyone ever Lemon Lawed a new car before?
downingracing replied to Aaron's topic in Passing Lane
In 1996, I purchased a Dodge caravan. It was in the shop 7 times over a 9 month peroid for the power lock on the drivers side sliding door randomly locking/unlocking while driving down the road. It was only in the shop for a day or so each visit, but after the 7th attempt to resolve the issue, I started the process for the lemon law. I asked Chrysler to take the vehicle back and refund my down payment (trade-in from prev. car). I didn't ask for all my money back because I did drive the van and they provided a rental van each time the car was in the shop. (So I got something for what I had paid in payments) Taking the van in that much was a PITA, but they were trying to resolve the issue. We really liked the van and wanted to keep it. They agreed to take the van back and gave me a check for what they showed me for my trade on the deal (since it was paid for). Fairly easy process (lemon law) if you keep good records and document your time/issues. Good luck to you and your dad! -
I'm not sure that broad of a statement is true. I keep my wife's 1500 silverado in top notch mechanical condition. It gets scrapes/dents from kids/parking lots all the time. I buff and wax it as best I can, but using a vehicle as a DD will result in this type of 'stuff' if driven by someone who isn't as 'aware' as some of us are...

Will consider trades for anything... Looking for a Scooter (like a Honda Spree or something like that - any condition) but will also trade for electronics, guns, 4x100 rims. Let me know what you've got. -
Set of (4) Hankook Ventus RSS Z211 C50 compound 205x55R14 tires. Sticker set that has been stored in a cool/dry place. This is not the current generation Hankook tire. These are race tires and are sold as-is. These can be used for RoadRace or AutoX - NOT for street use. $400/obo for the set http://www.downingracing.com/forsale/pictures/z211.jpg

I've had several cars inspected from a salvage title. The last one had no airbags in it, no horn, not reapired - damage to trunk floor, cracked windshield, dark tint windows.... Not much worked, but they only checked for stolen parts. Nothing about safety was checked. I am under the impression that they only look for stolen parts and that the inspection is not a safety inspection.

Actually, driving around the track in a follow the leader group can be VERY helpful! I've been racing at Mid-Ohio for 10 years and just 2 years ago took the M-O school class. Had over an hour of follow the leader. It was a real eye opener to go that 'slow' around the track and really get to see each corner slowed down. Actually helped me drop my lap times by over 1 second the next race weekend. I'm wondering if the 'advanced' group still has limited passing on the lapping days... Did anyone go to the one a few weeks ago? I'd love a report on how it was.

What color is the cover? Do you know the layback angle? Thanks!

Garage Space on Craigslist.... Check it out. Need a partner...
downingracing replied to neonkiller's topic in Other Stuff
Yea - I checked on that place months ago. Basically just want to allow people to store cars or 'stuff' there. Didn't seem interested in the business with no customers being there... -
I know that guy too! Great plate (and I'm a fwd guy!).

I've always been happy with the work that specific shop has done for me! I've had them paint a few cars and even do some major frame work. Honest/Friendly to deal with and always did me right. I'm a repeat customer and will be in the future.

Sent you a PM. I don't care about the condition of the title - salvage or clean would be fine with me.

Very nice! But a little slow to be the worlds fastest electric car (this is a streamliner, but still a car - running on batteries!): The Buckeye Bullet (BB1) As the Formula lightning series was phased out, the team found themselves with a great deal of electric racing experience, but no venue in which to put it to use. After some brainstorming and discussions with existing program sponsors, the team decided to take electric racing to a whole new level and go for all out speed. The goal: to break the world record for top speed in an electric vehicle, 248mph. Over the next two years (2000-2002) the team of undergraduate engineering students designed and built the Buckeye Bullet. The vehicle debuted on the Bonneville salt flats in October of 2002. Over the course of 2 years of racing at Bonneville and optimization back in the shop in Ohio, the Bullet worked its way up to a top speed of 321 mph. October of 2004 saw the top speeds of the bullet and the shattering of the existing records. The new national record was set at 314.958 mph and the international record at 271.737 mph. These variations are due to rule differences and averaging speed runs which you can read more about on our landspeed racing page. The Buckeye Bullet was retired after it’s October 2004 runs, but still holds the both the national and international landspeed records in the EIII class. $400 to pre-register as a bidder ($500 to register on-site) 8% sellers premium 10% buyers premium Barrett Jackson does set the bar/mark for the collector car market. Once a car is 'sold' at Barrett Jackson, it gets to carry that 'status' with it forever.

The ZX2 I ran at Nelson this year had much stiffer springs on it (in the 6-800# range) and the track was great. I haven't run my Civic there, but plan to this spring. Civic has 700#/f 1000#/r springs on it, so we will see how it does. I'm guessing it will do fine. (Just hope I do!)

$1k/yr for 5 cars and a trailer w/ 3 drivers - one being 16/boy... Nothing on any of the driving records and high limits with full coverage.

I've done worse and had it repaired... A good frame guy can fix just about anything. Worth fixing?? That is another question. I don't know the value of a car like this one. Anyway, good luck to you both!
