  1. The event is this coming Friday! Car counts for the PDX are lower than I expected - that means more open track for each person signed up!!! If you've ever wanted to drive on a race track, this is a great opportunity to do it at a world class track - Mid-Ohio! Novice group will have instructors to assist you in having the most FUN possible! This is going to be a great event - stop making excuses and get signed up! Many people say that their car is 'stock' and they want to mod it before coming to the track. NO NEED! As a novice, you will not be driving anywhere near the limit of your car. You can do many track days before even getting close to that limit. Brake fluid, torque wrench, tire pressure gauge and a helmet are about all you need! (An extra set of brake pads wouldn't hurt... Just incase...) It really is a blast and driving Mid-Ohio is AWESOME! I'll be at the track Thursday evening. Instructing on Friday and racing Sat/Sun. For anyone who makes it up, I'm WAY out in the upper grass paddock. We will have 3 Civics racing this weekend - should be a BLAST! Hope to see some of you there!
  2. Setup your PayPal accouint to require the SMS code as well. You login to PayPal and it takes you to the screen to request SMS code. You push the button and you get the text message with the code. Enter that code and access your account. If they don't have your phone, they can't get into your account. Also - Setup another Checking account tied to PayPal only. You can have multiple checking accounts at the same bank. I've got several checking accounts at my bank and can transfer money real time between accounts. The PayPal account only can pull from that single account. No overdraft for that account and not tied to a CC. Keep a balance at $0 and you can't get taken. good luck.
  3. Not so much... That is exactly what is being applied. The people are voting no, so they are represented. They can keep voting no and get their way - that is how it works. "No taxation without representation" is me working in Columbus and living in Pickerington. I am forced to pay Columbus income tax (as well as Pickerington), but don't get to vote on the income tax issues/increases in Columbus. THAT is taxation without representation. I work there and am subject to the tax, but don't get a say in how much I'm taxed.
  4. Sort of... Some of those other clubs are WAY behind when it comes to safety. No one personally makes a dime at an SCCA weekend. The person making those important decisions about how to handle a bad situation doesn't care about the 'money' that could be lost with shutting things down or taking longer for a cleanup. And some of those other clubs will charge you for any track damage that happens as a result of your 'off'. Hit a guard rail and get a bill for $700 to repair it. I've seen folks get a bill for $3k+ for an off. Also need to understand how some other clubs view damage that occurs on track (between drivers). There are a few groups out there with statements like "Any damage between cars is between the owners of the vehicles". Understanding the total liability policy provided by the sanctioning body is just as important. Some other clubs are better at PDX because that is all they do. When you have a 13/13 rule - that is not racing. NASA is huge for track days around here, but the real road race competition is in SCCA. I've known many folks who went over 'there' because it was so much better. They are almost all back now... I ran with them way back in the day and safety was about the worst I've ever seen. Went to several events since and have seen huge improvements, but not enough to make me bring my car(s) to their events. I guess it comes down to having a full understanding of the total package (risk/reward) for the group you chose to run with. I've made my decision for now but am always willing to give other groups a good look. I've had a few big crashes and need to know I'm the #1 priority for everyone there and that money will NEVER be thought about when making decisions for my safety. All just my .02 cents.

  6. I've been on-call this past week and was hoping this would already be sold. Will let you know if I've got time to come and look at it this week. Any chance you have the stock rims?
  7. Western Ohio Region is hosting a PDX (Performance Driving Experience) event at Mid-Ohio sports car course in Lexington, Ohio. This is the link to the registration: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.advert/uidEvent/AC4F035F-E39D-7899-F42724ED3BD57B11 Come out and drive your street car on this AWESOME track! Instructors for any new folks and advanced groups for those of you with plenty of experience as well! This is an SCCA sanctioned event (sanction and insurance information available from WOR region). If you've been thinking about doing a track day - this is DEFINATELY one to consider! I'll be there all weekend (instructing on Friday and racing on Sat./Sun.). Post any questions or feel free to PM me. My only involvement in this event is helping instruct and participating in the Regional Race that weekend.
  8. I've got both the HF and Jegs jacks. The Jegs jack 'feels' better than the HF jack, but both do the job just fine. My .02¢ would be to spend the few bucks extra and get the Jegs jack.
  9. This is the start of one of my races last year at Mid-Ohio. Put it in the gravel trap in the qual. race and started at the back.
  10. Yup. Was out, but back now. Fun when I'm on-call and the laptop can only run for 1.5 hours without power...
  11. Yes it is and it is a good start to getting a comp. license. Just need to make sure to drill in the fact that no one 'wins' a HPDE/PDX. There are only losers at these events. The loser is the person who crashes their car by driving over their (or their cars) ability. These events are educational/fun ONLY. You shouldn't be timing yourself at these events - just working on being smooth and learning to drive. Speed comes on its own when you 'get it'. Glad you had a good time and hopefullly you stick with it to get your comp. license. This is the #1 best way to spend money I've ever found!
  12. Just to be clear - This is HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience). Not racing. You are there to learn to drive on a race track. Drive the racing line and learn how to drive your car at x/10ths (where x shouldn't be over 7.5-8). Starting out, you should be around 5-5.5/10ths. HPDE/PDX is a great way to get on the track! Some things to consider when doing a track day: 1) Understand the insurance offered by the sanctioning body hosting the event. This can be very important if/when something goes wrong. Some groups have it right and others do not. 2) Understand the rules/your liability. Some groups will pass track damage/repair bills to you. So if you hit a tire wall, wall/barrier - you can be responsible for the damage bill and those can be in the thousands. 3) Understand your liability for contact with another car on the track. This can be wide open and expose you to a ton of liability depending on the group you run with. 4) Look at the safety workers/conditions for the event. Never be afraid to leave and event if safety is being compromised. There are MANY more things to 'consider', but these are some of the bigger ones. I'm happy to discuss track days with anyone wanting to do them. (at the track or over beers locally!) I instruct with a group that does track days at Mid-Ohio.
  13. That is the nice way of saying "Too much available credit based on income"... Loan qualification can be based on the amount of already approved credit you have access to. If you make $60k/yr and have 3 credit cards (even with 0 bal) with limits of $10k each, you have the ability to charge $30k at the drop of a hat. Even with a 0 balance, there sometimes a formula used to calcualte available credit.

  15. Got my bodyguard .380 and LOVE it! Also picked up a Bersa .380 and it feels like 2x the size of the bodyguard. Both are great for carry and very fun to shoot. The bodyguard is about 0 print with a itwb holster.

  17. It will show the same amount. You can transfer the title to a family member for the price of 'free' and that is what will show on the title. It also shouldn't make a difference what the title says for the price.... And if you sell it to a family member for more (on the title), you will pay the sales tax on whatever amount is put on the title.
  18. I use one (HF) for all the torque-stuff that isn't that important. Got a nice (old) dial torque wrench for the important stuff.
  19. Proline painting. Used them several times for exterior and interior. I'm friends with the owner and have recommend them to anyone who asks. Coupon: http://www.couponmap.com/Ohio/Centerburg/43011/Home-Garden/Proline-Painting-Llc/mm-6932d2719b564abc711eb265bc33317c/
  20. People crack me up with this topic. ANY used car needs to be inspected 100%. Cars can get a branded title for many reasons that don't include any real damage. Other cars with 'clean' titles can be major POS with serious damage/repair. I've had a 'rebuilt' title car that was hit and re-totaled. The insurance company paid me full (retail) value for the car and I purchased it back to part out. I have no issue with used cars with titles of any kind. I spend good time looking each one over and make my decision from there.
  21. It could be. That boat looks really big to have a single axle trailer.... Only towed once with a single axle trailer and it sucked! Difficult to control and you always knew it was there (trying to kill you)! 2-3 axle trailers only for me from now on.
  22. You definately need another hitch! Glad you made it home with that setup! Nice boat!
  23. Wow... The article (http://www.smartmoney.com/spending/rip-offs/10-things-your-credit-card-company-wont-tell-you-18808/#ixzz1Fyl00kPd) is a hoot! People actually need to be responsible, make payments on-time, don't exceed limits, Understand how credit works and READ the agreement?!?!? Using a CC the right way: Charge items you can afford to pay cash for. Don't go over your credit limit. Once CC bill arrives - Pay it in full! *collect rewards if available* It actually is that easy! If you don't have a cash reserve for 'emergencies', you need a low interest CC that you can use for those expenses. Then make a plan to pay the balance off as soon as possible. And an emergency is just that - something you need to survive! (NOT something you think you can't live without) All my .02 cents. I've racked up over $50k in CC debt in my life. I paid it all back (with interest) and will NEVER be in CC debt again. I now have a car payment and house payment only. Reserve fund for just about anything that can happen. Enough insurance to protect me and I've got everything I need/want. Good luck to you in your CC search!
  24. If they pay you $.485 a mile and you average 500 miles/week and you drive (for work) 45 weeks/year, they will pay you $10.912.50/yr. The car will get 22,500 miles/yr on it at that rate. If you get 30 MPG, you will use 750 gal. of gas. At $3.40/gal., you will spend $2,550.00 on gas. Figure in Misc. maintenance (shouldn't be much on a new car) - $1k/yr. This leaves you $7,362.50/yr (or $613.54/month) to spend on a car payment. Over a 4 year loan, you will put 90k on the car and spend $29,450 on payments. So a $30k car would be 'free' and you will have a 90k (maintained) 4 year old car that is paid for. Repeat every 4 years.
