This is the kind of article I'd expect to see on The Onion.

I'm a fan... the car, the cones, and who gives a shit about the people watching the background. Reducing them to grayscale reduces the distraction, and yeah... the car and the cones is what this pic is all about.

This is a classic example of node over-subscription. There isn't shit customer service or the field techs can do about it, this is a fundamental limitation of the way cable internet works, and can only be solved by adding $$$ hardware out on the street. Think of it this way... you've got 100 little stirrer straws that information can travel through, but each straw can only work in one direction. Since the vast majority of people want to download, you set 90 in the download direction, and ten in the upload. As long as everyone's watching pr0^H^H^HNetflix, it's great. But what happens when everyone tries to surf at the same time instead? All those "Please send me ....." requests get held up, waiting in line for those ten upload pipes. Now add to that all of the "I received the last five seconds of video, please send the next five" requests. And the "Here's piece 21389057 of SW_KOTR for the torrent swarm, but only if you give me piece 907!" Very quickly the limitation in upload capacity becomes a limitation in download, as well.

Nah, you still need a little sky, otherwise (and especially in the b&w version) you're left to wonder if it's a nice, sunny day, or if the heavens are about to strike down upon thee. Having the sky also reinforces that this is a ground car having its way with the road, and not something you've just blasted out of a railgun through a tunnel.
-
Like this the best as well, or the full-color version (but only a little less). As has been pointed out already, the uncropped version of this just has too much sky, and by flattening it out, it makes it look like the car's got more room to run, rather than being boxed up
-
Windows boxes running for long periods of time will accumulate this sort of crap. It's also possible that the size of the problem is related to your torrent client not cleaning up after itself after a download is complete.

Does anybody here have, or have access to, a FLIR camera? Would like to try shooting my house to see what kind of easy stuff I can do without going balls-deep into a full energy audit.

The car is possessed by a demon. Take it to an exorcist.

Depends on what was replaced... replacing a 200g electric heater installed by the power company 30 years ago during the age of electric everything (a couple of which I saw while house shopping last year!) is probably a huge savings. Replacing a 40g natgas tank, probably not so much.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. /thread

:megusta:You must be new here.

Paul - Concrete. We want it in, sealed, and forgotten about. Tim - Thanks, looks like I've got one from you and one other waiting to be read

I along with a couple of other folks in the neighborhood are thinking of having our driveways replaced. Apart from Sam and Troy (both of whom I've PM'd), anybody worth contacting/avoiding?
-
Seconded. Ever since Bob's shut down and some other outfit took their phone number and acted like nothing had ever changed, I've been without a shop to use at the office.

Macs are usually pretty good about having all sorts of AV stuff included, but 2008... hmm, might not have had a DVD burner built in. The reason I asked about budget is that if you have a burner, but no software, the software can be had for $100 or less. If no burner, then maybe $150 for that plus program. I've got both, but no free time. Sounds like Tim can hook you up, though

This was a small one going bad during a storm. Now a little control transformer like what's in your tub isn't nearly as likely to go in such spectacular fashion, but yes, it's possible. Looking over that diagram (low res such as it is), my first thought would be if all your motor windings show "open" to ground, and just a couple of ohms phase-to-phase, and the same for the heating element, the next most likely cause to me would be the 120V/240V conversion at the bottom being incorrect. You said you've wired for 240V, but if the previous owner had set it for 120V, that might cause what you're seeing.
-
If you've got a DVD burner in your system, odds are the program that came with it could probably handle the conversion/authoring. No extra money needed. If not, what equipment do you have, and what's your budget?
-
Brushes... this is a DC motor? After closing (and tripping) the breaker, have you ever gone up to the tub to check for heat/smells? Sure, the breaker is clearing really fast, but there may be a little residual effect you or someone else could see/smell. In terms of things to check, look for shorts between the motor windings and ground, the heating element and ground, and possibly a shorted start cap (which should be pretty obvious after dumping power through it a couple times).

Brake fluid levels good? My Civic would toss a somewhat random combination of ABS, Brake, and CEL lights at me when one of the bleed valves started leaking and the level got just low enough while braking/turning for air to hit the sensor.

So basically all I'm gathering from this thread is that everybody's great, until they suck ass, and then you change providers and life is awesome until it breaks, at which point they're also completely incompetent and you change again. Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.

There's your problem... Chuck Norris doesn't bother taking names.

Emerson Network Power - Various "critical" job openings
mmrmnhrm replied to Rally Pat's topic in The Meat Market
Certainly possible... One in my group who survived was buddy-buddy with the manager before being sent on a five-year deployment, and hadn't even been back six months. Another was also prior military and just had a baby. Me... single, childless, renting, and not in an EEO/ADA "protected" class. Easy target. But at the same time, when they gave me the generic "Job title - Age" list of who was laid off, and who survived, it was pretty obvious who else got chopped, and between that and the severance they gave me, I wasn't feeling too bad. -

Emerson doesn't have in-house CRAC techs like they do for UPS and monitoring products. They train and contract with local HVAC shops (Columbus-Worthington, Mid-Ohio, etc) for that stuff. -

Pretty much this... all the "old timers" would share stories of Ralph, and even up until maybe 2005 or so, things were pretty much left alone. Then Farr started the whole "One Emerson" drive, where the brand names were changed to "adjectives" in favor of the corporate name, and all that crap. It's not a Liebert, it's not an Alber, it's not an ASCO. It's an Emerson. A who?!? Yeah. Others in the management chain have been doing things just to appear busy, or change for the sake of change. And it's getting worse.
