    GOP 2016

I like the thought process here. A couple years ago, there was a delightful website/blog called Angry Patriotic Bastard, wherein was made a comment along the lines of "America is best when we're fighting each other like drunk rednecks over Daisy Duke." Sadly, when I loaded up the old domain on my phone, I got what looked like a Japanese soup recipe review site :megusta:

    GOP 2016

Yep, that's my impression of this election cycle so far. Not a single candidate from any party that I wouldn't hold my nose in voting for. Maybe Gary Johnson, if he gets the (L) nod again? Trump - A blustering blow-hard egotist is the last thing we need when dealing with Koreans and Iranians. Fiorina - Under her tenure, HP sucked. To hide the suck, they bought Compaq, and we all saw how well that went. Paul - Seems to understand domestic issues well enough, but foreign? Clinton, Bush - No... just no. There's a reason Washington retired after two terms. Sanders - Maybe it would do this country some good to see what a real socialist is like, rather than hurling it as an insult every time someone suggests government might need to be involved in restraining unfettered capitalism.
  3. I don't know that you'll find any, just lots of anecdotes and stories. Personally, I'm in the "where there's smoke, there's fire" camp about this, as it seems like both radon levels and cancer rates in CMH are noticeably higher than in CLE.
  4. Check your zeros... 22kt would be larger than Hiroshima, and roughly equal to the high-end estimates of Nagasaki.
  5. Network Power (I also worked there before joining Expedient) is basically everything having to do with IT and data centers... UPS systems, CRAC units, racks, and the like. The core of the division is Liebert, which was a separate, NYSE listed company up until Emerson bought it out 1984. My guess is that the bean-counters in St. Louis have decided that they're better served by turning them back into either a wholly-owned subsidiary, or (more likely) being majority share-holder of a completely separate corporation. I would expect (if it hasn't been published already) an SEC Form 8-K regarding exactly what and why they're doing this. From my view here at Expedient, Emerson's being short-sighted... NetPwr has always been the smallest, and probably most vulnerable to capex cycles, but when the boom is on, they can't build stuff fast enough, and just like "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM," there's a reason CRAC units are called "Lieberts" in Canada.
  6. Home inspector invalidated the test by removing a barrier to entry.
  7. If the goal is to show off your IT chops, or prove the length of your neckbeard, there are better ways to go about it. What I see is more like asking us to come up with some sort of hacked-up Frankensolution in search of a problem.
  8. I guess I'm still trying to figure out they 'why' part of all this... seems like a real pain in the butt to accomplish, well, what exactly? Are you trying to run some application that doesn't "play well" with Win10? Do you have someone in the house that can't learn a new UI? Are you a masochist and get your jollies from doing things the hard way?
  9. As Jeff says, you need to find a way to start whatever it is you need started as a service. There's a tool called Alwaysup that I'm somewhat familiar with (in that, I know it's a royal PITA because it's what our battery software uses to auto-start/auto-restart itself) that might do what you're looking for.
  10. For that kind of stuff, pretty much anything goes. The only caveat, as has been noted, is that if you are running through any sort of air duct, the wire must be plenum-rated. Past that, just make sure you don't put too many holes in load bearing beams.
  11. Exactly... two and a half years later, I kinda wish I'd just gone with one of the "door only" quotes on my garages, but still done the openers myself. Talk about a real PITA.
  12. Anybody with recommendations for/against anyone, experiences/pricing from their own projects?
  13. Same here... I've got algae growing on the street outside my outlet.
  14. We used Buckeye at the office about five years ago during our initial construction/renovation and really liked their work (lots of care taken for prep/protection where needed), but since then getting callbacks from their rep for any follow-on work has been a real PITA. I'm not sure if they even bid our expansion a year and a half ago... wouldn't surprise me if they missed the deadline.
  15. This right here is what separates NASCAR from Formula 1... NASCAR teams are in the stands, fans are in the garages, and you have the chance to actually talk with your favorite drivers and learn from the crews. F1 has this air of superiority about them, a sort of Eurosmug, that Americans just can't stand.
  16. Eli - I am not, but because I'm already in Arlington, they really really want a trade electrician for Dublin. Ryan - Probably depends on the requirement in question. We simply can't hire, for example, a quadriplegic for this position, but if you've spent the last five years working for RobotWorx up in Marion, that'll look good even though it's not "data center."
  17. Posting for our facility engineer at the new Dublin office just went up here. This is what I'm doing at Arlington right now, so I can answer just about any sort of question you have about what you'd be doing, hours, requirements, and benefits.
  18. Anybody have experience with them? The toddler turns two in a month (meaning we can turn the car seat around to front-facing), and we'll be having our first "are we there yet" drive before the year is out, so for the sanity of all involved, we'd like to be ready with lots of Qiao Hu, Kai Lan, and Sesame Street to choose from.
  19. Even on larger jobs, you usually only pay when the work is complete. That said, on large jobs, if the general contractor has broken the various components out, it is reasonable to pay for pieces as they completed. A large renovation may have "Bathroom and hallway $XX, Office $YY, Kitchen $ZZ, Enclosed sunroom $$$$$$$" broken out, where you'll pay for each part when finished and you gain use of that area, but not for the others.
  20. If you know anybody who's into collecting antiques, ask them as well. As my dad was cleaning out his parents' house to get it ready for sale, I had my best friend's dad go over with him one day. Sorting through the attic, friend's dad would be "junk... junk... what's this, oh junk... is that a Winchester?? SAVE IT!!" (Winchester being a specific brand of the 'stick these roller skates on top your regular shoes' that most of the older folks here would remember from elementary school gym)
  21. Are you sure it's the RAM (tested at your settings with Memtest86+ or equivalent), and not the overclock itself?

  23. There's a lot of info out there, especially with regards to you and your family's rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, but first and foremost in this situation is your right to demand, in writing, an accounting of who incurred the debt, where, when, how much, and that the creditor sending the letter has the legal right to request payment on said debt. Nothing you or they say over the phone has any legal weight, only what is put down on a written page via snail mail.
