Many places will waive the diagnostic fee if they do the work. I don't think it's an actual rule, though. Also, on the rare occasion I take my car somewhere else, I always find I need to control my natural tendency to not trust a thing they're telling me. This is unfair. You need to have a healthy, open mind so that you're sure they're lying assholes and it's not just you being overly defensive or mistrusting. May not be the case here at all, but it's just a thought. As far as they're pricing goes, they'll charge whatever you're willing to pay.

This opinion may no longer be relevant due to time, but we test drove the Forester XT in late 2010 when we purchased the RAV. It was probably top of the list but one of the things that "X'd" it off for us was the damn CVT. I don't recall offhand if they've changed the CVT itself or the software since then, but we did not like it. That, however, is simply opinion and would be upto a test drive for you. I would definitely drive as many cvts as you can to get a better idea what'll pass for you.

I've been speaking to ForceFed to tow the Supra and Vibe to Texas but haven't heard from him in a few days and have been unable to get final quotes, etc. and move day is coming quick. So, in case I'm unable to get a hold of him or do not hear from him, is anyone else familiar with some trustworthy auto transports? The Supra is not currently running but the Vibe is. I know some places take issue with non-running autos. Thanks all.

My experience with CVTs tells me they're pretty perfect if you live in the middle of Houston or LA/Orange Cty or some other large metropolitan area where you're always in traffic. The feel is almost seamless and the efficiency is more easily appreciated. However, anywhere there are hills, high speed use or highway use, the feel of the CVT is just terrible. I currently would never own something with a cvt in a city like Columbus. I'm not experienced in long term ownership, so I don't really know about CVT longevity though I haven't heard of too many short term issues.

That sucks. My ankle is still sore but I'd take that over a broken toe. My gf broke her toe when we first move into out current house. Strap slipped on an insanely heavy tv we have and fell on her toe.

No, no. Nothing like that. It's just a work vehicle w/about 8k mi on it. Just needs a thorough outside wash, interior vacuuming and dressing, and possibly the matts washed. I don't think a wax is needed/wanted but I can find that out for sure later.

Either way, sounds like some fun. Always nice to get somewhere to stretch the car's legs out a little bit.
