Thoughts/Comments on 1970-80's Triumph Spitfire cars
Crossle replied to Rustlestiltskin's topic in Passing Lane
No problem lol, we should meet in person sometime you have quite the wide array of interests when it comes to cars. Didn't you want an old beetle the other month? Miata's are cool, but if I am reading your car interests correctly you are looking for something a little more unique that you don't see every day and provides the fun factor. The problem with those types of cars is that there is a reason that you don't see them everywhere. There are some great cars out there and I don't want to discourage you from picking up a neat older ride, but the older stuff just takes a lot of tinker time depending on the car and condition. -

Run Away What sort of price range are you looking for? We have 2 Triumph TR6's that are for sale, but they are going to be close to 10K and they are a much better car. As far as parts you can get almost anything for the car via moss motors, or victoria british which is nice. Unfortunately they just need a ton of work most of the time. If you are looking say sub $5K it's going to need work and when I say work I mean the brakes overhauled, the ignition system dealt with, carbs tuned, etc.. They are neat, but I could never justify owning one as a mechanic. I love the body lines of the Triumph GT6, but same deal. Too many negatives unless you spend the money up front for a nice example. They are almost as bad as Fiat 124 Spyders which are usually all over craigslist for next to nothing. -
I will more than likely swing by.

Right and those are going to be the people with big money, and no driving experience that want to show up and run their blank check ride in the standing mile for internet/bragging rights. Sure there are some serious drivers and machines there. As we have all seen there are the real high horsepower cars that get in trouble when "the customer" takes the wheel. AKA more money than ability. Rules are there to protect the ignorant and the serious/dedicated alike. Keeps the ignorant alive (unfortunately) BUT more imprtantly keeps the event going for the serious people.

1/4" ratchet 3/8" ratchet 3/8" Gun 1/2" Gun I know it's 4, but those IMO are the "essentials" if I was working at home the 3 I would want in order are 1/2" Gun 3/8" gun 1/4" ratchet That's the order of most/least used for me. If you get the new 3/8" gun from snap-on it almost provides enough torque to eliminate the 1/2" gun except for axles nuts, crank shaft pulley bolts, etc.. but at home I would use a breaker bar. I usually don't need a cut off tool except when "fabricating", and most DIY garage people have an electric drill already. A blow gun is handy, but it's super cheap and wouldn't consider it a major expense like an air chuck.

It should be there responsibility because if someone does die you are going to get a TON of un-wanted attention questioning the SAFETY of your events. SAFETY is and damn well better be your number 1 priority. As it is with all other forms of racing....

Pretty neat, HD looks good and great sound. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=K-Rs6YEZAt8

+1, why is this any different than 1/4 mile racing rules? You go faster than 1/4 and there are less rules. Makes sense to me...

Call the whambulance? What are you trying to prove lol?

Slight bias, but I like the scoobs personally. I did really enjoy the Evo's I have driven, but for ME I think the Subaru's are easier to work on. Nothing like yanking engines in under an hour on a modern car.

Where was this R6 bandwagon when I had the '05 with 2K miles on it lol?

I like the album, but I agree with Joe that there just isn't that intensity that you expect from him. I mean I guess I was expecting more emphasis on the bass but it just wasn't there for me. I do really like the album I bought it a day or 2 after it came out and it's still in the car. I wish more of the stuff he did when he was playing with DJ AM would have been recorded.

Reading now, will update with notes. -Can't get intake manifold off, is jacking on t-stat housing and lifting car and intake still won't come off. -He used "The Right Stuff" RTV, which is actually really good stuff. -It is suggested that maybe he didn't need intake bolts since the intake is held on so tight with this RTV -PAGE 6 shows some video of jacking the car up and the intake won't budge. -Finally gets intake manifold off.

It's their way of making it "legal" considering when you read about them the next day at times they don't ever catch drunk driver's. They catch people with no seat belt, no front plate, illegal tint, car seats not installed correctly etc.. I don't care about it because I usually always hear them on the news and avoid the area anyways.

LOL, oh the irony. -
Used to ride that almost twice a day everyday when I was about 14-15 yrs old, then I got a license. I still have my cycling bike, doesn't get out often enough anymore.

At least Verizon didn't buy T-mobile.

If you can have someone in the car "if you want" and they aren't assigned by the track I'll just ask my Dad to do it considering his "relatively" extensive experience. Agreed, especially considering it would be my first track day. Rich, you realize that Craig71188 is my Dad and was your "novice day" autocross instructor back when you had the Jetta? You may know, but just wanted to check lol. He may be willing to ride a session as an instructor possibly if you ask....that's if he is going.

My boss and the lead tech thoroughly read the "lubes and oils" magazine that we subscribe to at the shop and Royal Purple scored as one of the worst oils to use. This is on top of lots of various internet sources and factory recommendations based on certain components that make up various oils/lubricants. They know their stuff when it comes to lubricants, and when you work on the vast range of cars that we do it is important that the customer's vehicle gets the proper/best lubricants. I haven't said anything about it in the past, but I will here as it pertains. I use Castrol GTX in everything of mine with Napa Gold filters. Synthetic oils, we use Amsoil at the shop, if the customer wants to get their own we recommend Mobil 1 as it is easier to come by than Amsoil for the average person. Although I have been debating on going OEM filters as I have heard, but not researched that the OEM filters are better than the Napa Gold filters.
