I'm with you. The main reason I posted this as the other day I had a Bexley cop pull up along side me while getting gas to discuss my use of a cell phone while driving. Mind you, it's in an AC Vent Mount right above an 8" LCD in my dash from Ford. I asked if I was officially being pulled over and he then asked if I needed to be? We had a cat and mouse exchange about how I was using my device in ways that were within the law in Bexley and that if he wanted to cite me and meet me in court with my phone records/text records, he's welcome too, but that I was completely confident it would be a loss for him, a waste of the courts time and further proof to be used as case law that such a citation is a waste of resources as he would most certainly lose this one. He asked me (tongue and cheek) to show him my phone to prove it and I said I would in court. He moved on from there just warning me that they were cracking down and I thanked him for entertaining me as I filled up but that when I leave I would be using my built in GPS, playing my iPod and likely calling my wife, all hands free thanks to Ford Sync and Siri so don't freak out on me but I may need to further secure it in it's holder if it appears loose.

I see it differently since just about no one expects to be passed on the right. Also, most traffic merging right is trying to exit to a ramp so jumping right then back left can be dangerous. Yes/No. I'm one of those assholes that hates when people do that. Our neighbor across the street and I have come to an understanding about it as he used to always park his POS Truck out there. He needed to clean out his fucking garage and use it for vehicles, not his pack-rat shit hole, learn to jockey cars around when needed or just plain sell the fucking shit hole truck. Thankfully his wife agreed and pressed him to sell it. It was an eyesore, a PIA when we need to back out, blocked snow plows and mail trucks, not to mention was a PIA when traffic and pedestrians are out and out needing to go around it. Hmmm....IMO, it's as simple as using a sound meter and ratings from the manufacturer showing the specifications as compared to the law. I'd have fought it if it was in fact in accordance with the law.

It took my wife who has a page about 3 days to figure out that her family, the main reason she created hers, was going to drive her nuts with their stupid updates and bitching. :lolguy: Pics wise, I have a number of different places I put pics for family, friends, message boards, etc... so I don't really need Facebook to host them. I just get a kick out of it all because as I read through my wife's page with all her connections and family, I keeping things "I really don't give a shit" about what they post about. Can't also help think the same thing would be said about us if we posted a bunch of crap like they do.

just discussing..... so are you saying that passing on the right isn't a big deal? that using the public street as your personal driveway isn't an issue? Noise ordinances aren't necessary? Didn't you fight the stock CB750 issue? I agree with you in terms of perhaps using existing laws or simply editing them, but couldn't that or an officer using their discretion be seen as too much empowerment as well? Do you not see any issues with that too?

The best thing for the agencies to do is go after what impacts people most directly....their insurance companies and employers. If Johnny doesn't care about the law because he'll take his chance on getting a ticket, lets see if he'll take his chance if his insurance rates skyrocket when caught, when his policy states it's void if found to be guilty of using such a device upon investigating an accident or if he'll change his ways should his employer fire him for using it. My guess is most will change their ways then. Lose your job if you use a cell in the car.....I'd stop. I can easily see employers getting hit with fines and law suits should they be found not enforcing future rules put upon them. ie....if as a company their employees are in an accident on company time and found using a cell phone, they will pay through the nose. Action would then be for employers to crack down on use. Even more effective if you drive a company car or use a co. cell phone. Make it a year part of their routine to scan peoples driving records (for those where it's applicable). Many companaies already do that in addition to tracking who you're calling. We do both. Again, hitting people higher up the food chain is where the success will be found.

I should ditch the smart phone too. It is interesting to see that FaceBook users are either hit or miss and hardly use it or they are addicted to it like crack. I had to release an inside rep who would spend 50-75% of her day on it. Even after knowing we were monitoring it, she continued and said she couldn't help it. Hell, I spend enough time on CR, I can't imagine holding my iPhone with Facebook on my mind. I'd be a vegetable. :dumb:

I think it would be pretty difficult to enforce without tons of challenges. What's next, ruling out talking to my passenger while driving? In terms of retrofitting, I doubt it will happen and I don't see hands-free being eliminated. Doing so will just cause more people to wreck by being forced to go hands on, as they is a set of people that will use a phone regardless of the law in place. I agree that it can only help. perhaps, but think about how much more can be done by eliminating the top distracting item of drivers on the road. America can be better.
