Wish I'd of known you were there. A bunch of central Ohio regulars were pitted by the "usual" pit out drive - Motorcars (VW Golf), Auto Body Specialists (RX-7) and the Hounddogs E36 (my ride for the weekend). We had a great run Saturday (3rd in class / 7th overall, but couldn't get the cautions to fall right on Sunday and wound up 18th O/A and I think 11th(?) in class. It's only taken 3-4 years and a good bit of trial and error to get a very limited mod E36 to be reliable and fast.... We have gone from struggling to finish both races, to consistent Top 20 overall, to pretty regular Top 10 finishes. Still working on a class win or overall podium position, but now that we have reliability, we are working on plans for next year. PM me sometime, we should chat. BTW, the car looks good!

Rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN area? Close to peak leaf season, plenty of outdoor stuff, budget friendly. Sheraton or Marriott on Sand Key in FL are both nice. Just across the bridge from Clearwater Beach, but much less crowded. Easy in/out of Tampa airport. Denver is an easy flight. Rocky Mountain National Park, Pikes Peak, Red Rocks Amphitheater are all close - short drive to off season ski resort areas. All of these are pretty much book your hotel/cabin/house and flight and then just do what you feel like when you get there.

Fixed the first line for you... Also, Columbus USED to be a major test market when it reflected the total makeup of the country in a single metroplex, now at 2/3+ liberal (not as skewed as many major markets) - so today, not so much. Do something with the other malls? Many years ago the "experts" said Columbus did not have enough retail space. Developers went crazy building more and now we have empty malls. The current "experts" say we need more apartments - standing by for that blight in 10-20 years as they all start to sit empty and crumble. I am confused over the "crushing college loan debt" while graduates RENT apartments @ $1K-$2K a month and can't figure out why they don't have any money..... Well, that went into a random rant quickly. Need some more sleep from this weeks travel i guess.

What to do with vehicles with over 200,000 miles.
craig71188 replied to Stampede's topic in Passing Lane
Unless it has changed (again), if you donate a car, the write off is whatever the charity gets for it. This changed many years ago. I frequented the VOA Auto Auction and they would run 40-60+ cars every week and would run a second mid week auction around tax time due to numerous donations. They would also hold back special interest vehicles for a "best of the best" auction once or twice a year. People could write off NADA value for their deduction. Apparently the government decided they were loosing too much money helping charities and made change to where the charity had to tell you how much they sold the vehicle for and that was your "fair market value" write off. VOA now has an auction every other week with 20-30 vehicles, no "best of the best" and not enough surge in donations for a mid week auction. Check your tax laws, your results may vary.... -
This time in Iowa, makes you wonder what else is still out there... https://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/auction/muscle-car-heaven-the-coyote-johnson-collection-auction/ The story from the announcement letter: Hi, I am proud to announce an amazing auction coming up Sept. 14th, 2019 in Red Oak, Iowa. We were doing an auction last year in Griswold, IA and a man came up to me and said, "Hey, would you like to come look at my collection? I'd like to show it to you." Well, I was pretty dirty and tired, but wasn't going to pass the chance to look at a collection. The location didn't GPS and got lost. Soon I drove up a winding path up into the trees. The place was like a giant treehouse and a narrow path to building and a house. Coyote Johnson, was a mild mannered guy that had a fat yellow lab going with him everywhere. Daisy, was the dog's name. We walked up to the 1st building and he unlocked the door to a building full of dust covered Muscle Cars. Every color of the rainbow. Mopars, Chevelles, GTO's, Firebirds, Camaros, and more. We went from building to building and it was much more of the same. American Muscle frozen in time. Coyote, told me that I was the 1st one that he had showed the collection to in over 40 years! Even his family didn't know what he had stored in the buildings. He is a contractor, by trade, and had built the buildings basically around and for the cars. It appeared to be so. WE talked for a while over a couple beers, and I asked him what he wanted to do. This was July and it would be December before he decided to sell the collection. Coyote still has his High School Roadrunner that his Mom bought for him. He is keeping this and about 11 other vehicles. Just can't let go of all of them. I don't blame him. The collection will be sold NO Reserve and brought to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Red Oak, IA. It's going to be amazing. 12 Road Runners, Challengers, Cudas, Camaros, GTO's, Firebirds, Tri-Fives, and much more. We have cleaned them all up and pictures taken. Inventory will be up soon with the catalog. You won't want to miss this one. Time to buy back your Glory Days.

Do you know the buyout price at lease end?

As for parts, Vermeer/International Parts still have quite a stock of old VW stuff. http://www.intlpartsstore.com/ A lot of the "old timers" are gone so not sure who of the old VW gurus is still there. But a lot good parts still at their warehouse a few years ago when I was there.

Also, are you running solid core or resistor plug wires (If not coil on plug)? Solid core wire can also cause interference. Resistance wire sets are also run for the above reasons.

I will defer to Scott on the Tech II as I have had/used "generic" scan tools. If the ability to turn on the compressor is "withheld", it would leave me to believe the PCM is still seeing/not seeing something it needs to allow it to run. "Open the pod bay door Hal", "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that" Those days have arrived!!!

Gone - lock it up. THX

Recirculation door won't cause the A/C not to run. As Cordell mentioned, check the live data on the Tech II for: The A/C high side line pressure is over 2957 kPa (429 psi) . The A/C low side line pressure is under 151 kPa (22 psi) . Throttle angle is at 100 percent . Engine speed is more than 5500 RPM . Engine coolant temperature (ECT) is more than 121°C (250°F) . Ambient air temperature is less than 5°C (40°F) . If these sensors are sending an incorrect value to the PCM, no A/C. I would be most suspect of the last two being out of range based on your comment that the A/C will work initially, then shut off. But that is just a guess. Even though everything seems normal, if the sensor is bad/sending an incorrect value, the PCM does believe whatever it is told!
