I think last year on the fastest courses we saw low 70's (mph wise) in the Formula Ford - not much HP, but not much weight either. Your results may vary, but Ben is correct in that per SCCA rules, stock class cars SHOULD not exceed highway speeds (typically 55-65 max). If you do see this speed, it is only for a brief moment at the end of a relatively "straight" section of the course.

I instructed last year at the OVR school at OSU. I had two "students" - one a first timer, one with about a season of experience. There was obviously a course to run as well as a small skid pad and a short slalom in a seperate lot. Each instructor is different. I rode with both students on almost all their runs. I basically offered a brief critique after each run and offered suggestions as to things to work on the following run. We also spent about 5-10 minutes at the skidpad and made 6-8 runs at the short slalom early in the day to work on a few specific points. Several instructors rode early - then let the students have at it unless they ask for help. While seat time is good - if you're going to invest your time in a school - I'd get an instructor in the car with me for as many runs as possible. Just thrashing away without anyone to provide feedback on what your doing right-or wrong just opens the door for you to develop bad habits early. Pat/Pat/Jeff - my preference is to work with the RWD guys if possible. I'll be glad to work with any/all of you. Just put in a request in the notes when you register.

OK - still here - moving at the end of March - $2650 or reasonable offers. Automatic transmission = easy Cadillac 4.9 swap!!!

I have run with UFO before - keep in mind they run at CMS and as such typically run much shorter courses than SCCA. They also have to deal with WALLS aroung the speedway and thus are typically fairly tight courses. I agree that any experience is better than none-but running with them will not get you a look at what I would call a comparable type of course. Buckeye Miata runs at the Ohio Historical Society. I have not run their events, but have run other events on that lot. This is a relatively small space, but would offer a better representation of what SCCA runs, albeit at typically a little lower speed/tighter turns. As I said, all seat time is good, just understand the type of experience you will get and how well it transfers.

Ogre Size? Like my fat ass in a kart isn't going to look like some sort of abused sausage squeezed into a seat and around the sterring wheel. There is a small chance the FF may be able to stay - if so it will be faster this year (special winter projects are completed regardless of if it stays or goes!)

Contest the ticket, go to court, take a big folder full of photos & paper (look like you did some research-or do some research) and talk nice to the prosecuter. They generally come out and meet with you before you go into the courtroom - and they just want to convict you of something. Let them make you an offer to plead to something lesser. If you don't get what you want just stall and tell them "I don't know", or "I was hoping not to have points", or "I really don't want my insurance going up", mention it's a very subjective call, the weather and so on. The prosecuter will generally make you an offer and then may better it once - but that's generally all you'll get. It also helps if mom or dad go along and question the whole process as well. Age does have it's benefits. Good Luck!

I won't make the April 14-15 event - I have a customer in Dayton, always has his jobber show the first weekend in April, same weekend we always hold Test & Tune. This year he moves the show to, you guessed it, April 14-15! I do plan to instruct at the drivers school though. The Formula Ford is still for sale, but I'm starting to waver - If I can swing it once estimates come in on some needed work at the new house - I may try to keep it and play some more. If it doesn't work out, I'll be seriously in the market for a 125cc shifter kart before summer's over!

Skye is much better looking car - you just can't get it without a bunch of extra crap. The Solstice can be bought without ABS and a few other "standard features" on the Skye.

1) Rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN - hot tubs, nice scenery, not too far 2) Las Vegas - more entertainment options, see the Grand Canyon 3) Sarasota Florida - Siesta Key-beautiful white sand beaches-not too much spring break activity - decent flights into Tampa usually, then about an hour drive south. Just depends on your tastes...
-
OK - if you want to go big - I still have my big & heavy Lodge & Shipley Lathe and my Index Vertical mill for sale (plus tooling for both). Moving date is coming up so I've got to do something. Give me a call if you're interested.

Most all the mill/drill/lathe combos are made in China. Harbor freight just happens to be cheaper than most and you don't have to pay freight. If you just need to turn small stuff and cut threads, you might be better off with a used small lathe. If you're set on the combo - the Harbor Frieght piece will probably hold a pretty fair tolerance in aluminum.

They typically use them for mounting railings - check out this sight for some pictures of what is typically available: http://www.wagnercompanies.com/wagnerail.aspx

Rear engined or side mount? About how old would you guess? Give me a call - in the market for one. Craig 614-668-5939

Too bad we spend too much time on "self esteem" issues, cultural indoctrination and other assorted bullshit and not enough learning about our own country/history (and math & science)and how it is supposed to be run - by the people! A recent study showed american kids had a high view of themselves - but no knowledge to back it up, several asian countries' kids didn't have that high of an opinion of themselves, but kicked ass on math and science. Hmmmm, domestic automakers hovering in and out of banktuptcy, asian auto manufacturers seemingly not having problems.... coincidence???

So I'm looking for a new house. I decide to stay in Columbus for the relatively lower property taxes compared to the 'burbs. I'm checking out prospective houses on the Franklin County Auditor's website. Two prospects are offered way under their appraised value. Call the Auditor's help line - got a prompt LIVE person to answer who is quite helpful (+1 for the auditor). She informs me I can petition the auditor to lower the property taxes based on the purchase price and comparables. No problems. I then ask what happens if I buy a house that is priced higher than the appraised value, would this show up on the next assessment? Here's where I get irritated: She tells me our Columbus School Board has a person (people) on staff who monitor all home sales in their tax district. If a home sells above it's appraised value - they immediatly petition the auditor to raise the appraised value (hence taxes). This is a particularly sore subject with me as I already pay for my kids to go to parochial school (my choice-I know). But as much money as I see the Columbus public schools get AND PISS AWAY - It amazed me that they can afford staff to be sure they extract every last cent from the taxpayers. Maybe I'm too naive and want to believe that people would be above this. I'm sure they've done a cost/benefit analysis and this person (people?) probably more than pay for themselves (per their numbers), but I think it just sucks. I would invite anyone who lives in Franklin county to check out the auditors website: http://www.co.franklin.oh.us/auditor/ Look up your property, and similar houses near you - if the appraised value looks out of line with the true market value (actual sale prices) of homes in your area, you have until March 31st to petition to have your taxes lowered. Forms for this are also on the site. I've got mine for the new house and plan to file, I plan to be the "official" owner before the end of March. Good Luck!

I purchased the car from a guy in MI - it spent the last part of it's life racing at Waterford Hills - once held the track record. Red XXX'x - two driver car - numbers painted on bodywork - X out number for second driver to have correct times attributed. The best photos I had happened to be with my kid in the car.

I would like help tracking down my dad's old rally car
craig71188 replied to Rally Pat's topic in Passing Lane
Pat, I sent a note to the Central Ohio Rally Club and will try and find an email address to get a note to the Rupp's who were actively rallying at the same time. I'll let you know what I find out. Do you just want to know where it is-who owns it, or are you going to try and get it back? -
Bump for new price & link to photos!

We used to go out every year for our sales meeting. They put us up at Sam's Town - way off the strip, but a free shuttle to the strip and cheap rooms $39-$49 Sun-Thu. Only downside - we refered to it as "God's Little Waiting Room-West". Try not to trip over the wheelchairs/canes/oxygen tanks (seriously) as you walk through. BTW - the pyramid thingy - Luxor Also - be sure you check out Freemont street in old downtown Vegas - GREAT light show on the roof on the hour (Free)- plus some neat old casino's.

Yep, and just remember "The older I get, the faster I was".
