Read something in Car and Driver saying that while the price of a barrel of oil has quadrupled over here in a certain time period when valued in dollars, it has only doubled during the same period when valued in euros. Weak dollar is one of the single biggest factors in this whole deal and people jump straight to blaming oil companies without thinking about other reasons.
I am starting to see some real changes in consumption though. I know a couple of people (including my father) who have started riding bicycles to work. Obviously this isn't possible for most people, but I see a lot more bikes on the road going to work in the morning than ever before. I've also started planning out where I'm going to go when I drive somewhere, and try to go to multiple places on the same trip. While it's certainly not easy on anyone, it seems like this is what it's going to take to finally get people to start treating oil like the non-renewable resource that it is.
