  1. I, and most of the other competitors, were less than impressed with his behavior at the 2008 National RallyCross Championship. When his actions were called into light, the situation was not handled on the up-and-up and smelled strongly of Good 'ol Boy-ism with him and the rest of the RXB. There are many very long threads about this on various forums with e-mails that back up what those involved (and left out of the final decision process) have said. He might be a great guy off the field, but as a competitor I wouldn't trust him farther than I could throw his car. Sorry.
  2. Can't touch the engine or you're in Mod. Did all 5.0 foxbodies come with a rear LSD?
  3. There's a guy who runs a Vic in MI. I think he just stands on the pedal and lets the back end do what it wants. The weight is a big issue for me. And if I strip it, I'm back to the Modified class.
  4. The RX7 would be fun, I've always wanted to play with a dorito. But there already is a FB driver that shows up to the local events. He's pretty much got a lock on the crazy wankel angle. The 944 would have good absurdity value, but the cost of repairs would be painful.
  5. Utecht rallies a Mustang? Crud... I hate that guy.
  6. The problem with that is the conversion would put me in Modified. And as the classing stands now, that would put me up against FWD cars that are far better in the dirt than this would be. I'd like to start in stock and keep the car cheap and simple since I have a balls-out build already. I guess my biggest concern is the stock LSD. How can I tell if the car came with one from the factory. Is there a build plate on the firewall? Or someplace else I can check? ANd what would I check for?
  7. So, been thinking a little out of the box for a new RallyCross car. I'm in the mood for a change of pace so I'm thinking of a RWD car since it's just the wrong platform for the job. And of the choices I've come up with, a Mustang fits most of the criteria I have while being a bit on the absurd side of things (which makes it all the better). I want something: RWD Inexpensive Cheap to fix Easy to work on Reasonably tough The Mustang fits these conditions pretty well once I thought about it. It doesn't have an independant rear suspension, but this won't be a competition build, just a fun diversion. (F-bodies have too much overhang front and rear, sorry guys. I'd be losing bumpers like crazy.) So, from what little I know about Mustangs, this is what I think I want: Foxbody (fastback or notch doesn't matter, I think the LX is lightest?) 5.0 Manual Stock LSD Unmodified, or minimal mods that can be reverted cheaply. Cheap ($3000 or less) Solid body/frame (cosmetic rust is fine) Interior can be trashed as long as it's present. So, would I be able to find something like this? Or am I looking for a unicorn?
  8. I had that issue of RCE. That's a really great alternative to a windtunnel. I need to buy a digital subscription. I love the mag, but the newstand price is a bit high.
  9. Great, STI-driving, minds think alike apparently.
  10. Summer tires don't work as well below 45 degrees F. So for the colder months, winter tires are preferable. I would rather have a set of each and have grippy tires in the summer and capable tires in the winter, than compromise on a set of all-seasons which will be crap year-round. I bolt the winters on in late November and go back to summers in late March or early April when the temperatures are dependably in the low 50s or higher. That's 4-5 months. It's also 4-5 months of the year that I'm not putting wear on the more expensive summer tires. I'm easy on tires to begin with, and this makes them last even longer.
  11. I've seen video on that before. It's awesome.
  12. I recognize that car. They've come out to a few RallyCross events.
  13. Very nice. I'm just not a fan of Audi styling. I start at the front bumper and think "yeah, this is one cool looking car. Nice styling." Then I get to the front fenders and go "Hmm.. Not much going on here." And from there on back I fall asleep. ZZZZzzzz. You're an ok guy, so I won't tell you the "Cannot un-see.." thing I noticed.
  14. If noise is a concern, check out the Conti ExtremeContact DWs. Even at temps below their preferred range, they are quiet enough that the wind noise on the highway is louder than the tire noise. And these are 245/40-18s on my Leggy. So these are not small tires. I bolted them up early because I wanted to check clearances and it's been nice enough lately that I havent' switched back to the winters. I'm very impressed with them so far. I do need to get a hold of Biggu and see when I can come in and use his fender roller. But I keep procrastinating..
  15. Winters are Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds for the Leggy and Hankook I-pikes for the WRX. The I-pikes were chosen because I was running Hankook contingencies. The Dunlops are the ones I recommend. For Summers, the STI has RE-01Rs (succeeded by the RE11s now). Those and the Dunlop Z1* specs are the ones I'd recommend for a high performance tire. But for a summer daily, I'm really liking the Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. They are very quiet for an upper end summer tire and reasonably priced. So they're my recommendation for a good DD summer tire. I'm with AudiOn19s with Hankooks. I've run their rally tires, top-end summer tires, and winter tires. I haven't been happy with any of them.
  16. Some do use racism as a crutch. Others use it as something to make them feel important (the article that was posted here a few months ago that effectively said racially blind people are racist is a good example.) And there is still genuine racism out there because some people are just plain stupid and need someone else to blame their problems on. I think teaching about racism and why it's bad is a good thing. But I think walking on eggshells around people because of their race is dumb also. We're past affirmative action. Unfortunately, some people just won't let it go.
  17. When I was in grade school the teacher in my class did the "Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes" experiment on us. I was taught from day one that everyone should be treated equal and even at that age I felt I wasn't racist. But afterwards I was surprised at how some of my thoughts towards my classmates changed during the experiment. It really made me more aware of how easy it is to have racist views. It's a lesson that I still remember strongly. School can't be just hugs and bunnies. Some of life's lessons should jar the psyche so they stick for life.
  18. Sweet. I'm probably going to wait until Monday or Tuesday when all the torrents will be out. Then I can watch them at work.
  19. Do you see fire coming out of the back of a 747?
  20. Civic. Simple, easy to work on, cheap parts, reliable, great mileage. $3K is a little low for a Subaru that won't need a head gasket in the near future. But if that's not a big issue, then a Subaru is a great choice too. Reliable, safe, great year-round, easy to work on (except for head gaskets. )
  21. Probably because they only focused on power and ignored handling so once the cars became usntable at that speed, they couldn't be saved. And they were both idiots.
  22. Looking again, I think that red "Button" is actually a flip-up cover for the start button. Just like firing a missile. Which considering this is 700hp in a car that's lighter than the Gallardo, that seems appropriate.
  23. A friend of mine that worked for an Ambulance company says that the clock runs as long as the main power switch is turned on. So it's possible the previous owner (it has had one owner since the ambulance company) left the main on a lot. I'm thinking I'm going to offer $3K. If they take it, cool. If not, then it's not to be.
  24. It makes my bits tingle. If it's anything like the prototype, this Lambo is going to be awesome on the track.
