Where is the best place to go about finding info on rooting my Thunderbolt? I'd like to get rid of all the excess crap apps and keep stuff from running. I killed all the apps that were running last night when I plugged it in and this morning there are 14 running.

I'm surprised, because every review of the Evo always makes a point to mention the poor mileage and the common stops for gas, whereas mileage isn't mentioned all that much in Subaru reviews. I've personally seen averages of 20mpg on mostly city driving and 27mph on a highway tank. *shrug* It doesn't really matter. I still say the STI is the best Jack-of-all-Trades.

I just bought one a couple months ago too. Do you stock the approved memory cards? I understand the GoPro cameras are picky about what memory cards are used.

I'm watching today's practice right now (love DVR). Seems that in practice and qualifying the moveable rear wing is unrestricted, but in the race itself it'll only be useable on long straights and if they are within passing distance of the car ahead (1 sec or less). The wing will then revert to the high-downforce position when the driver hits the brakes. The cool thing is that it's clearly obvious what position the wing is in. It snaps up and down over 2" like a trap door. Very neat to watch. I forgot to mention that Bridgestone is gone and Pirelli is in as the sole tire manufacturer. This will change a lot. They still are using the 13" rim size though. And I was wrong, the moveable front wing is gone this year as well as the F-duct. As are the sharkfin engine covers that connect to the rear wing. I'm not sure why, but I guess it's to eliminate any possibility of an F-duct.

Has started! Qualifying tomorrow and the first race Sunday! KERS is back, Double-Decker Diffusers are gone, and the driver can lower the rear wing if he's within passing distance of the car ahead. This is in addition to the adjustable front wing too. Hopefully this will make for a lot more overtaking. Another blast from the past is the 107% rule. Qualifying is even higher stakes now. If a driver can't hit 107% of the lead time or better, he doesn't race. Should be another good year.

Better mileage, better ride, 07+ has better gearing for around-town, better reliability, better community. I said it was a better all-arounder, not that it was flat out better. The Evo has it's own areas that it excels at. But when's all said and done, there's an STI in my garage and not an Evo. Since he didn't give any specific use for the vehicle other than he wanted it to be fun and drive it year round, the STI covers all the bases better. Power modding / drag racing primary? Evo 8 or 9 Mid-Ohio primary? Evo X But if he tracks it sometimes, autox it sometimes, drives it around town a lot, and doesn't want to get utterly raped at the gas pumps, then the STI is what I'm going to recommend every time.

05-07 or 09+ STI. Reliable, good parts availability, stronger transmission than the WRX, better all-arounder than the Evo. Just stay away from the 08s, WRX and STI both.

This is a N-th hand recounting, so some of the facts may be wrong, but I think I have the basics straight: The people of Egypt got pissed off at their government and revolted. It ended up being largely successful with the questionable leadership leaving town on a fast bus to someplace else. This encouraged the people of other countries in the area to do the same thing with varying degrees of success. In Libya, however, things went pear-shaped. Seems the leadership has control issues (moreso than most) and turned out to be bat-shit insane. Rather than dealing with the uprisings with restraint, they brought out the big guns and started mowing down their own citizens. Apparently they even ordered their airforce to do strafing runs of the demonstrations. Some of the military decided the peopel had it right and started to help them. At one point they occupied most of the capitol city. But then the leadership found some bigger guns and people who are equally as corrupt to fire them and took back most of what they lost. So now it's a warzone of irregulars vs trained military. Kind of like our revolutionary war (tactics wise) but bloodier and with heavy ordinance. This has apparently horrified their neighbors who want to wash their hands of the whole bloody mess. This is why the UN has given some go-aheads for outside military intervention. Why are we involved? Oil of course. But there are human rights issues too that need to be addressed. So it looks like we're going to stick our fingers in the middle-east pot again. Hopefully we won't stir up the nasty stuff at the bottom again. And that's my half-assed understanding of what's going on in the world's armpit.

Well, 8 hour shift is over and I have 40% battery remaining with heavier usage than yesterday. I used ES Task Manager. It gives you a widget that kills excess tasks with one tap. So I just kept on top of the stuff that was running by hitting that widget whenever I put the phone away. Now if only I could root this thing so I don't have to dtjis in the first place.

I'm trying to stay on top of the background apps today and see if the battery lasts longer. Another option is to try and force 3G for when I don't need the 4G speeds. That will be my next thing to try tomorrow. If I still can't make it through a work day with light useage, I'll have to take it back.

The phone is nice. Call sound quality is excellent. But the battery life is amazingly bad. When I mentioned that I thought I could get at least 24 hours out of the battery to a coworker, he just laughed. I bought a car charger so I could listen to Pandora in the car. So I arrived at work with a full battery. It was almost dead at the end of my 8 hour shift and I hardly used it. They make a bigger battery, but it requires a larger backing plate which means my case won't fit it. I'm just amazed that battery life this short is considered acceptable. I'll figure out a method to keep it charged, but it's just surprising. Part of it is that it seems like everything you do on the phone just stays running. And since nearly all apps lack a simple exit button, that means everything I do will just compound the issue. I think the task killer app will be one of my most used apps. Overall it's a good phone. I think it's the software that's letting the hardware down. I expected better from the phone market, and I'm amazed that all the crashing apps, short battery life, and other little issues are accepted as normal by the general public. Being into computers for most of my life, I have a pretty high tolerance for finicky software. But when it's stupid stuff that should be written or designed better, it frustrates me. I'm not regretting the purchase. I knew there would have to be some behavioral changes on my part with the new phone. I just overestimated the state of the smartphone industry. This is still Windows 95 territory here. We're seeing the shape of the future in the phones now, but they have a long way to go until they are a polished product. (And no, iPhone is not an option. Open platforms may mature slower than proprietary ones, but their potential is many times greater.)

And I'm sure they don't mention that the reason there are 4 damaged reactors instead of just 1 is because of the Anti-Nuke crowd. They made such a fuss that Japan's nuclear commission wouldn't approve any other sites. So as Japan's power needs went up Tokyo Power could only build more reactors at that one location. So they have 6 in one spot rather than spread out to prevent chain failures. And guess what happened?

Another vote for Hunan Lion. Good food. On a good day, their General Tso's is the best I've had. But General Tso's General Tso's is not far behind. If you like Pei Wei (which I also recommend), it's actually a luncheon/diner format of P.F. Chang's which is very good and on my list of restaurants to visit.

I grew up next to Pilgrim Power Plant in MA. At one point it was rated the 4th worst in the country. Now it's one of the best. I remember when CNN was supposed to be about the news, and just the news, with as little bias as possible. Now they're doing stuff like this with a header designed to prey on current fears. What a joke they are now.

Eventually, I think this is where internet service will go. But while it's perfectly ok to switch to only having a cell phone, internet service isn't ready for a total changeover yet. Maybe those who only browse and get e-mail and do the occasional You-tubing can make the switch now, but heavier users, or users that want lower latencies (gamers) will want to stick with landlines.
