I was *seriously* considering getting the X. I had wanted an STI for so long, and then the 08 came around. I had hated how the Evo 8 and 9 looked, and then the X came around. I think the X looks incredible. Much more agressive looking and the handling technology should be incredible. But.. It'll be a first-year car. It'll be a Mitsubishi, who don't have the greatest reliability reputation. And as of Aug. 29th, it was unproven.... And on Aug 29th, there was a Black 07 STI optioned out JUST as I would want it sitting on the Byer's lot. And it was proven, reliable, and not a first-year car. It still took me a couple hours of standing in the sun to decide.. The SST in the X is *nothing* like the CVT in the GTS. The only similarity is the paddles. The SST is essentially a manual transmission with two clutches that are computer operated. One input shaft is for gears 1,3,5, and the other for 2,4,6,R. When you are in one gear, the next gear is already engaged with the clutch open. So when you upshift, one clutch is opened when the other closes. This gets you an upshift of only 8ms. Downshifts are on par with an expert on a manual.

I'm watching Top Gear right now on BBC America. 'course, I have no idea if they'll show the new season within the decade...

Then that I would have liked to see, otherwise I would have wondered why. I may be a Subie guy and I personally think the Evo 7-9 are ugly, but that 4G63 deserves respect. 7s would definately have been a possible goal.

I'm feeling lazy... Was he planning to put a 4G63 back in it?

I would LOVE to head to HH again. That was an awesome afternoon, and I know my Navigator would want to come along again. If we do cruise the roads, you may want to bring along two-way radios (Multi-channel Motorla types.) Cell-phone coverage is *extremely* spotty out there, and the lead car can call out cautions to the followers. If there is any "spirited" driving on the roads, be careful. There was a LOT of loose gravel on the surfaces, and every year the HH run for COS has at least one spin, and that's with AWD cars. Some of you powerhouses will be getting sideways if you even think about touching the gas at the wrong point. But even if I still had my T/A, I'd jump at a chance to drive HH again, calm or "spriited". It's a great place and there were a lot of cool places I never got to see (On-brakes, Apex, double-clutch to 2nd, power-on, setup next turn, repeat.) If we end up in the area, I highly reccomend stopping by the Welcome Center, as right next door is a place that sells GREAT apple cider.

I've rolled through QSL on the weekend a bunch of times, and I've never seen anyone that I recognize. The one time I did hang out there was after the Sep. Cruise-In. (I'll be at the Oct. one if it's still on) I'm not a racer, so I can't contribute in that fashion, but I'm far from a buzz-box tool and I'll contribute in whatever way needed. What I am, is a car enthusiast, and I really like checking out some of the monsters you guys have. So I'm all for meets that are a little less chaotic. If you do move the meets, I'd like to know the locations.

Ugh.. can't stand Axe. I used to work for a gaming center. We recieved a free case of the stuff when it first came out. Noone liked it. So for the following 7 years, we had a can of Axe in the bathroom.. Now the smell of Axe and Crap are forever linked in my head.

When I was young, I watched NASCAR. Essentially, I just didn't understand how boring and stupid it was. I just REALLY liked watching the cars. He's probably just a budding car nut and hasn't learned what's good and what's lame yet. Give him time, and educate him. As the above posters have reccomended, show him other types of racing. I'd also reccomend some good movies that aren't NASCAR-centric. Even though it's about motorcycles, you should watch "Worlds Fastest Indian" with him. I don't remember if there's any questionable content, but "Grand Prix" is a classic. Think of this as your opportunity to educate a new motorhead into how to do things right. Like a project car, but with more feedback.

Gen 4.5 (LS1) nose is so much better looking than the Gen 4 (LT1) nose. Plus it would take to hard-mounting headlights much better (and shave 11lbs from the nose).

Oh, I know about baking the headlights. But you have to dremel the tails. Funny, I'm going with black rims also.. Tell me you don't have the Chargespeed v2 lip. You know, from reading some of the call-out threads here, and watching videos like that, I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a clean race for money. Someone always screws up and leaves the door open for controversy. Makes me wonder why people even bother.
