Depends on the application. If he's doing any sort of 3D gaming, the linked card will be WORLDS better than onboard. And at only $70, it's not that pricey. The parts linked above were reccomended assuming he wants to keep the computer. As I said, his current system severely limits his choices. Now if he were upgrading his system, that's an entirely different story. But that's not the situation in the OP.

Does he travel around? Looks like PDX is in Oregon.

lol.. two votes for DSM.. FROM DSMers.

Slim pickins out there. The socket 478 CPUs aren't in production any more. This is about it: P4 3.0 As for video, having only a PCI slot available to use is going to limit you again. BFG 6200 PCI It's an old board that was never really meant for performance computing, so options are slim to none. Sorry.

With the amount of work that went into that and 3000hp, I think it canback up the guns. I just wish the owner would have shown a bit more of what the car is capable of. Seems like a show car, which is a shame.

Ok. I used to own a '98 T/A. It only had an exhaust, but it still made plenty of torque. Between the two? It's tough to say. Chosing one motor over the other is like chosing Italian over Asian for me. Both are good with their pluses and minuses. The big LS1 was great because I had the majority of my torque available at all points on the Tach. Power delivery was even and predictable. When you push down on the gas X amount, you got Y amount of accelleration. The STI is very different. On boost, it's tough to tell the difference. Really, torque is torque. The difference is in the non-linerarity of it. You learn when driving around town how much pedal will give you how much boost. What I had to adjust to was the turbo spooling up and probably doubling my torque. If you push the pedal down X amount, you'll get Y amount of accelleration at first, but it'll build to Z amount in a hurry. Granted, it's not uncontrollable, but coming from a N/A car to a turbo car, I was surprised by the sudden rush of power at first. For me, what I like about having a turbocharged car is the Jekyl/Hyde nature of it. If I'm conservative with the throttle and stay in the negative on the boost gauge, the car drives and behaves like you'd expect a 2.5L 4cyl car should. It's even quicker than my 70hp toyota. But all I have to do is push that pedal down a bit more and let more air into the engine and that turbo will spool up and it's like a different car. It's much like having the best of both an economy car and a sports car in one. (Granted having AWD keeps my mileage in the 'ok' range) So Turbo or N/A? I like both, but I guess I lean towards the Turbo more. It's just more fun having the dual nature of the engine to play with. But it's a close decision. Now, T/A or STI? STI, definately. But that's not the question under discussion here.

Streetability should be good on a turbo'd V8. With a turbo, until it spools, you're running all motor. It doesn't restrict the power of the engine. However.. (Forgive me if you know this already.) ..with forced induction, it's usually better to run a lower compression with more boost than higher compression with less boost. So a N/A engine will run between 10:1 and 12:1 compression to make good power. But turbo engines will usually run around 8:1. Obviously, everything else being equal, an engine running 8.5:1 compression is going to feel like a dog compared to one running 11:1. So if you're not under boost, the engine will feel weak. That's where the feeling of lag comes from. So how 'laggy' an engine may feel is partly in the build of the internals. Though getting the turbos to spool sooner helps too.. ..but not with mileage. Turbos and Fuel Injection are a match made in heaven. You can run A/F ratios like a N/A car when you're out of boost, then start dumping fuel when the turbo spools. So you can get reasonable mileage around town. But let your foot get heavy, and the AFRs will drop from an efficient 14:1 or so to as low as 10:1. Boosted tunes will go this rich to cool the charge and help prevent detonation. As you can guess, a turbocharged car that's nice and efficient around town can quickly turn into a gas guzzler. If you're interested in leaning more about engine tuning in a turbocharged environment, I can reccomend some books.. And again, if I'm going over stuff you already know, just disregard this and forget I even posted.

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! If you don't have these options, do this in Safe Mode and log in as Administrator.

Thanks. As I said above, I wanted an OEM look, and tint would not do that.

Damn.. If even thought I could finish it, I'd love to have that camaro.

Funny but fake. Good for a laugh though

I think you'd be surprised. It seems like a number of people on IWSTI have drag tunes, if they have to have a knocklite and are seeing flashes on the street. Though most of those haven't gone to the tuners that have the best reputations. Yeah. I know some of the local tuners are good. And I'm sure there are plenty of people here who swear by them. But the STI, and especially the 07 STI, can be a finicky beast. So I'm just a little bit wary. I'll look into PDX.

My god what a dumbass. Not only did he not spin the tires, but he sat there forever. Even if he was spinning the tires, he would have just cooked them off. He was probably trying to do a brake stand as if he was a RWD car.. Sheesh. Someone get that guy back into a civic. Edit: This was meant for the OP video. The mustang video has 2 dumbasses.

It's really just a more conservative tune. On the Track (road course) the car spends much more time under full load than it would on a drag strip. So I'll probably be leaving a little hp on the table in exchange for a safer tune. That's all. I'm seriously considering going all the way up to Buschur Racing. The local tuners haven't really impressed me, sorry. It;s just that I know if I bring my car there, I'll be getting a good tune. And he works with the AP which I have already. Ahh. I thought you just wanted to race. I've a good idea what the difference is like, and I'm definately planning on Stage2 + protune. I'm just waiting for the spring because the car is only a couple months old and I'm trying to slow my modding bug down.

Have you tried IE 7? Otherwise, you can try checking out your audio settings for your sound card and see if there's a stereo upsampling setting. Another problem may be the actual player. IE doesn't play the music, it's an ap that's called from the page loaded. So the player could be Media Player, RealPlayer, or even some half-assed java app some web guy stole from a college website.
-
Heh, not until I go stage 2+ protune. Though I'm going for a DD/Track tune rather than a drag tune. They are wing supports, like the Perrin Stiffis but with a bit more meat to them and no stupid PERRIN on the side. GraphicSTI on IWSTI.com sells them. You can put up to 5 of them under the wing, but you only really need one. They stop the top from flapping. I got them because I hated how the upper wing bounced every time I hit a bump which made it look so cheap.

I wanted a somewhat OEM look, so there will be some badges left on. But don't worry, some really nice black rims are on the way. When I change over to them in the spring, I'll paint my stockers to match also.
-
Thanks. I'm loving the new look.

Damn, that sounds good! And it's gone?

No idea. I don't know if you can do it without a recipt in hand, but you can try http://www.tellquiznos.com or 800-798-3989 to let them know how much they suck for giving the brisket the ax.

Dammit, you had me thinking it was already out. I saw a release date of 10/28, but that's a Sunday?

Anyone know anything about the 1989 Merkur XR4Ti Turbo's?

Oh those were good. Did they stop making those too?

I hate when I find a little slice of edible heaven and they take it away from me. First it was the cranberry and grapefruit SOBE drink. I had just discovered its greatness when they discontinued it. Then it was the original Mt. Dew Midnight. They canceled it, then brought it back all messed up. Gee, it was good enough to bring back, but then it flopped... wonder why? Then there were the BBQ Ritz Chips. They were damned good, and then they were damned GONE. I found a great non-alchy mix of Schwepps Ginger Ale and Ocean Spray 100% Juice Cranberry and Pacific Rasberry. Then the stores stop selling the juice! Luckilly when I moved out here, the stores around here still sell it! And Today! I roll into Quiznos to get my usual; a Smokehouse Beef Brisket sub, large, with extra cheese. When I order it, the guy tells me Quiznos stopped carrying that sandwich! At first I thought I ordered it wrong, but no, another slice of edible heaven gone.. The prime rib cheesesteak is not a worthy substitute! I guess it's a good thing I haven't found any spectacular BBQ around here yet, or it'd probably go belly-up!
