Naw.. been done to death.
-
Hmm.. I think I'm going to go with the paint then... Going to have to pick up a dremel and silicon sealer, and hope I don't screw 'em up.
-
Here's how they look now: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1128/1343375266_e32886b21a.jpg I have a few options: Just cover the chrome lower half: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/BlueBatmobile2005/Subaru%20WRX%20STI%20Overlays/stit106d.jpg A light smoke full coverage: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/BlueBatmobile2005/Subaru%20WRX%20STI%20Overlays/stit206.jpg A darker smoke: http://www.pcpcdallas.com/images/film/hs-tuners-red-06-wrx-rear.jpg Or "Stealth" smoke: http://www.pcpcdallas.com/productimages/ss-tails-psm.jpg Just for reference, these are what the painted tails would look like: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b16/stype002/Sti/DSC03733.jpg I'm mostly leaning toward the HotSubarus.com Smoke, or their Stealth Smoke if I go with the overlays. But the painted tails have that OEM (not stock, but OEM) look that I like.

I'm not overly happy with all the chrome in my headlghts and taillights. I can bake my headlights and paint the chrome inside, but the tails require cutting and resealing. Overall, the tails will be a PITA to paint. So another option I'm looking at is getting overlays. But how are the police around here about tinted taillights? Should I not even bother with the overlays and do the cutting?
-
Yeah, I HAVE to get some of those gloves! The stock BBS rims are a huge PITA to clean. Those gloves made it look easy.
-
Oh, I'm sure it does. But as above, it wasn't even this clean when I picked it up from the Dealership! With it so clean, I'm serously considering going back to driving my old beater around!

I just had Andy (AudiOn19s) detail the exterior of the STI today. He did an amazing job. My car has never been this clean, not even from the dealership. These pics will do the job more justice than words can. Even at full size (3264x2448) the quality still stands up. (Full size pics can be grabbed from HERE) http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1259/1414183635_15ab97c884.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1079/1414181689_ed7068bf35.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1179/1414189481_73dcccc023.jpg This shot looks fake; as if it's a CGI car. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1439/1415069184_b919d4734c.jpg Again, never had wheels this clean. (And won't ever again. These things are a B**** to keep clean.) http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1355/1415072872_0c82cf651a.jpg I also debadged the trunklid to clean it up some. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1067/1414185679_46c0740a54.jpg All I have to say is, if you are considering getting your car detailed, Andy is the Go-To Guy. No question.

"Some friends will come bail you out of jail if you get arrested. But a TRUE friend will be sitting on the bench next to you saying "Man, that was AWESOME!'" It's hard to find good friends, and it isn't until rough times that you find out who your good friends are. It's tough, but tat's the way life is, unfortunately. All I can say is to pay attention to who your True friends are and treasure them.

Sweet. Good to know. However, I just realized I commited to an Open House over at Meade Engineering that day. I want to talk with Byron about tuning the STI. So I'm going to have to pass on the Dyno day if it's on the 29th.
-
Do you have an AWD Dyno, or just 2WD?
-
Twisties? Did someone say Twisties? I'm in. After doing Hocking Hills yesterday, I'm up for any Twisties.
-
I didn't say they were unreliable, just not *as* reliable as some other options.

Damn, Thorne beat me to it and got shot down. I really think an STI is a good choice. A used '05 with forged internals, big rotated turbo, FMIC, supporting mods, and you're at 400-450 at the wheels which is over 520-570 at the crank with a conservative and streetable tune. Meth injection and race fuel and you're looking at 500whp. Use an AP for your tunes and you can switch back and forth at will. Get a launch control map and it'll leap off the line like a startled cat. And as it was mentioned before, you won't have to care about the weather. It could be a blizzard outside and you can still get out of the house and get some groceries. Just wave to the black STI in the 4 wheel drift that slides past you. That'll be me. Ok.. Hmm.. So if STIs are out, I assume Evos are too... So we're really back to something with a big motor and RWD. (Unless you find a Cyclone or Typhoon out there.) In that case, the FD w/ a LSx swap sounds like it might be a good idea. You can apply what you know about the LS1 in your car to tuning it, and structurally the FDs are pretty solid. The 5.0 mustang idea wasn't too bad.. Reliability wise it may not be the best, but you'll never run out of mods. EDIT: HP estimate was off.

I don't think there will be a sucessful hijack of an American airplane for a long time to come.

I was working in the afternoon so I was sleeping.. My radio alarm was set to the local station that carried Howard so I woke to the sound of him and Robin talking in disbelieving voices. I knew somethign had happened, but I didn't think it was somethign like that. At that point in time, things like that just didn't happen to us. Then, I'll never forget this, I heard him say "I can't believe it just fell!" And Robin started crying in the background. I was out of bed and turning on the TV in seconds, still not knowing what was going on, just that something really bad had happened. I turned on the TV just minutes before the second fell. The rest of the morning I had the TV on and Howard in the background. Howard Stern had *the best* coverage, period. I'll never forget that day.

Don't let the naysayers talk you out of it. #1 looks more stable, but I think you'll like the adjustability of #2. As for paint vs aluminum.. If your car is streetable, I'd paint it. If you only race the car, leave it aluminum.
-
Now that's badass.. Oh well, guess I'll have to amuse myself in the local Meijer's parking lot.
-
And here I thought this thread would just be a laugh. Do any of you know if there are any snowcross events held in the winter? Now THAT I'd definately be up for.
-
Well.. uhh... I'm only going to race the big boys.. 700+hp.. yeah.. You guys are too small-potatoes for me... yeah... lol

J/K This is the first real rain since I picked up the STI so I had to take it for a spin as I've never had an AWD car before (and I just love driving in bad weather. .) OMG, AWD is just unfair. I had NO clue how hard AWD can launch in the rain. Standing water at the line? *shrug* It might as well have been dry out. So.. uh.. Anthony, Brian, Amy... race from a dig?
-
Do a "Bad News Bears" but with cars. Some loosely affiliated group of street racers that run a little of everything vs. some flashy high-dollar street racing crew. You can have the matchups be all sorts; Digs, Rolls, Drifts, etc.. I'd probably see it.. Or you could "pull a Disney" and rip-off Initial D and "Americanize" it.

For some reason I just got a crazy idea for a beer commercial.. You see a guy in a full race suit in a bar drinking a beer. A regular guy walks up to him. Regular Guy: Aren't you the navigator for that Rally team that's trying NASCAR? Navigator: Yup. RG: Aren't you supposed to be racing right now? Nav: Oh, I've got it covered. Cut to a picture of the interior of the car. You hear the Navigator's voice saying "Left Easy, 160. Left Easy, 160. Left Easy, 160." The camera pans down to the navigator's seat and and you see an old record player that's skipping.

Heh, they could probably stare down Chuck Norris!

Well, I don't drink, so I guess I'll never get into it.
