  1. Mythbusters did this one. It's FAR FAR better to switch than not.
  2. OMG I was laughing so hard. That was hilarious.
  3. Holy fuck, look at this comment: If this is the typical diehard NASCAR fan, I have even less respect for the sport. Green laps are boring? If I wanted crashes to decide the winner, I'd watch demolition derby. Heavens forbid the winner be decided by skill. This guy just wants a giant grinder that chews up cars and drivers and spits out a random winner at the end. Fuck that.
  4. Notice all the rights are in the infield. They'll get another chance to try it until they get it right.
  5. Unfortunately, with the "Arena" style of these tracks, crashes like this will continue to happen regardless, and the crowds will always be in danger of a car breaking through the nets. There's no run off or way to catch the cars on the banks. So an out of control car will always be sent back through the pack compounding the crash. The only way I can see to improve audience safety is to put a second car catcher between the stands and the wall. That way any car that breaks through the first will not have the energy to break through the second. But honestly, the worst place you can stand in a race is the outside of a turn. Any rally fan will tell you that. But short of cutting the stands by 2/3rds and putting them in-field, there's nothing that can really be done about that. The only thing I can think of is to remove the restrictor plates and run the road course. That should string the field out and keep the speeds down.
  6. With a tie-off of some sort, I'd do that no problem. I love heights. When I was a kid, my father took down a huge tree in my grandmother's yard. He lopped all the branches off at about 2 feet and then topped it. When he took a break before cutting the trunk down, I climbed right up and sat on the top like a giant chair.
  7. http://www.elitetraveler.com/features/spur-of-the-moment-the-most-powerful-bentley-ever It's just not the biggest and baddest any more. Gotta say, hurling a 3 ton car to 60mph in under 5 seconds is crazy.
  8. He must be friends with Beyonce's publicist...
  9. Reading is a fucking addiction for me. In almost two years, my kindle library has grown to well over 400 books, nearly all Sci-Fi/Fantasy. (btw, the inability to use Amazon Prime to read books on non-kindle devices is a fucking scam) But anyways... I just started Old Man's War by John Scalzi today. I'm 35% of the way through and it's a really good read that got me interested in the characters from page 1. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. One of my favorite series is the Foreigner Series by C.J. Cherryh. I highly recommend it as it has a good story that makes you try to think outside the "human" box and try to understand alien thought processes. I admit it took a few read-throughs to understand the some of the forces behind the scenes that drove the players in the plots. One great thing the author does in her books is have her characters make these cognitive leaps based on social and political interactions that take a moment or two to figure out. Those ah-ha! moments lead to other insights about the plot that you might not have made otherwise. My library has some real gems, some absolute trash, and a lot of mediocre stuff. But I just can't stop from looking for that next book.
  10. Guinness is usually very strict about this stuff.
  11. Ok, kinda curious here. What about the Ford GT makes it such a popular Mile car. There are so many crazy Lambos out there, the GT-R is popular for tuners, and there are other popular modded cars out there. In most forms of sport like this the FGT is kind of a footnote. But when t comes to Mile cars, the FGT seems to be pretty popular. What about the Mile suits the GT so well?
  12. Hmm... A totaled 'vert.. remove windshield and roof junk, add a full cage... That could make for the basis of a pretty bad-ass track car..
  13. I do have a question about harnesses. The FAQ says no 4-points, but the stock belts are fine. I have the Schroth Rallye 3 belts in my car. http://www.schrothracing.com/tuning/rallye/rallye-3 They have an Anti-Submarine device in the inside shoulder belt that lets the body move like the stock belt to prevent submarining. It also conforms to Fenderal Motor Carier standard 209 for safety belts. Will I be able to use my harnesses at the event?
  14. Registered. I'm surprised DOT helmets are allowed, but I have a M rated helmet, so I'm good there. I do have a question about harnesses. The FAQ says no 4-points, but the stock belts are fine. 15. Yay.. noodle mode engaged. Take the one thing this car has going for it and toss it out. Ahh well. More sales means they'll keep making more of the hardtops too.
  16. It sounds better when you're deep in the revs. Your camera isn't recording the low tones very well. I bet it sounds a lot better in person.
  17. If you don't take yourself, or anything for that matter, too seriously you'll do fine here. Welcome.
  18. Got rid of it.. I'll see if I can find a smaller version.
  19. Could be? I'm sure it *is* a PR nightmare. They have already shown that they will shoot first without properly ascertaining the identity of their targets with no regard for innocent bystanders. Heads need to roll at the LAPD, and not just at the street level.
