    2012 RS3

What did it run? We were out in it the day before and the clutch pedal was sticking to the floor above about 6600 rpm. It pulled hard, just some shifts were slow cause you had to wait on the pedal to come up from the floor. Definitely needs a clutch upgrade.

Correct. One for engine coolant and the other for the supercharger.
  3. Last week we made a few upgrades to our 2011 5.0. The plan is to run the car in the Texas Mile in October. Not really sure what to expect out of the car as this is our first attempt at something like this. Last spring a few na 5.0's were able to run in the low 160's with the best being in the 163mph range. We are hoping for 175 plus out of the car assuming I dont chicken out and lift half way through the run .... There has been a lot of little prep done to hopefully keep the car in one piece for the runs that I wont really get into but for power we swapped on an 82mm supercharger pulley and will be running Torco 118 race fuel. I have a 76mm pulley for the car as well but I am pretty much at my comfort level power wise for what I want to put through the stock bottom end. I think Ill shelf the 76mm pulley until I decide to build the block. For now I am really pleased with power output. A roll on in 3rd on the freeway will spin the tires and kick the rearend out a bit which is good in my book! http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3826&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5209&g2_serialNumber=2 I also did a 93 octane/torco accelerator tune for everyday driving on the 82mm pulley. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5206&g2_serialNumber=2 And of course there has to be a youtube video of the dyno pull http://youtu.be/XvGAAb5uirY?hd=1

Think of it in terms of blower rpm rather than boost. On this car the same pulley was used for both runs so the blower rpm was the same and the supercharger would be moving the same amount of air. Boost is simply a measurement of restriction and is measured deep in the intake manifold. With TiVCT there is independant controls for each camshaft and simply moving the cams around will either create or remove a restriction without altering blower speed. On this car moving the cams removed a restriction allowing more cylinder fill, which creates higher cylinder pressures, which makes more power.

No, it had the stock tune which is not very impressive at all.... Once the pulley and the mail order tune were done there were some issues that prevented the car from being driveable. It pretty much came straight here to get worked out.

    2012 RS3

We had a 2012 Roush RS3 dropped off last week for a little bit of work. When the car came to us it was already equipped with a smaller 82mm supercharger pulley and a mail order tune. Everything else on the car was bone stock. We simply swapped out the spark plugs for the correct heat range plug with the proper gap and did a quick retune on the car. Power came up nicely and the car flat hauls! http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5166&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5170&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5176&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5179&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5182&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5185&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5188&g2_serialNumber=1
  7. Some bigs and littles made its way on today. Now the should actually be able to put the power to the ground, the rest is up to the owner.... http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5203&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5191&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5194&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=5197&g2_serialNumber=1
  8. Definitely cool. Im headed to Texas in October for the Texas mile with our 5.0. Gonna meet some friends down there and just have some fun for the weekend as well as see what the car will do. It is absolutely crazy how much prep there is involved to get a car ready to run that hard for that long. Not to mention the stress on the motor, iat temps on an fi car, ect temps, trans temps, rearend temps,etc.....It would be cool to have something like this in Ohio though. Im sure it would draw a lot of people.
  9. Stock they make power to roughly 6700 rpm. With the boss intake it moves up a bit and it will make more peak horsepower. Thats just the nature of the intake. Boss intake was designed to make power higher in the rpm. The tq loss down low was the trade off in design. On this car the tq drop is not a huge deal. With a manual, shifting at 7k brings you into the next gear around the 5k.You are always on the power curve and the rpm helps keep things moving. Everything works really well together.
  10. Yeah, it really doesnt take much to make these really fun cars.
  11. We do everything but the actual build. I use Michael at L&M Engines for all of our motors that we do. The machine shop is in house at L&M and the attention to detail during the building/assembly process is top notch. L&M also does motors for Evolution Performance, Revan Racing, as well as other shops. We try to prevent subbing work out but Michael has always done a fantastic job for us and with everything being in house at his place there is no finger pointing anywhere if there ever were an issue and my confidence level in a motor from there is really high. A while back we had a customer bring in a turbo 3v that the motor had let loose in. We were requested to keep everything on a budget and reuse whatever was reusable, so we did. I disassembled everything in the shop and inspected every single part before the motor went out. The only parts we reused were the block, the heads, the cams, and the cam phasers all of which I okayed to be reused. About 15 minutes into tuning the car it was apparent there was a problem. Once the valve cover was pulled, you could see the phaser had sheared off the end of the cam ruining the phaser as well as the camshaft on that bank. I immediately called L&M and let them know what was going on. What had happened was there was a stress fracture in the alignment dowel that neither Michael or I saw during tear down or assembly. Upon initial fire up the dowel pin gave way. I told L&M not to worry about it, that we would take care of it since I approved the parts to be reused. I was told nonsense and the next morning I had all new parts sitting in the shop to fix the problem courtesy of L&M. Recently L&M has finished up a few 3v motors for us including 302 3v stroker for an upcoming build, a supercharged Jaguar XJR motor, a Grand National motor, and he has some custom cams in the works for us on some upcoming projects. I dont always post alot of the stuff that comes out of our shop as I leave that up to the individual customer if we use any of their pics for advertising for our website. Most of the engine stuff we have done has been reworks from somewhere else and most customers just want he car running and dont need internet drama from seeing their build posted up or they just want to keep it quiet. I respect that. In the end, we get more work from referrals from happy customers than anything else. Of course companies like MMR will always be cheaper with this type of stuff but the comparisons are really apples to oranges when you take a more in depth look into what actually goes into the motor. What you learn through the years is that there is a big difference between an assembler and a builder. An assembler is easy to find....
  12. Here are the tires the customer chose to go with. They are 325/30/19 Nitto Invo's. The tires are a tad shorter than the stockers were which will help compensate a little since we are dropping the 4.10 gears that were in it and dropping to 3.55's. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4750&g2_serialNumber=2 The wheels are the oem rears widened by 1.5". We ran into a bit of a fitment problem at full droop....The widest wheel recommended for the rear end is a 10.5" and these measured out to 11". http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4753&g2_serialNumber=1 Modifying the upper coil over mount allowed us to tilt the top of the shock inboard more which gave us the necessary clearance to fit the rims. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4756&g2_serialNumber=1 No clearance issues with the tires at all. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4762&g2_serialNumber=2 From outside the car you cant tell any modifications were done or that the tires werent stock http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4786&g2_serialNumber=2 There is alot more meat under there though http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4792&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4789&g2_serialNumber=2
  13. We were able to fit a 325/30/19 in there with a tiny bit of modification. The rim was an 11" wide rim. Had the rim been a 10.5" I dont think any mods would have been needed. I have pics of everything. I just havent had any time to put them together and get them up.
  14. The rear of the lowers does have poly bushings, but the front of the rears where it connects to the body are heim. I do not believe there is an option for poly on the front of the lower. The watts link arms and the rear shock mounts are all heim as well. There are also blocks that are mounted to the rear axle from the factory for sound absorption that get removed when in order to install the drop brackets for the control arms.
  15. The customer is very pleased with how it well the car actually hooks up now. The car had 4.10's in it prior to installing the Griggs setup and there was virtually no first gear as it would just spin all the way through. With the Griggs setup it definitely hooked a lot better. The setup is a full heim joint setup and does transmit more noise through the interior of the car. It is not as bad as I was expecting but it is slightly noisier. This particular car is primarily a street car so next week we are going to sound deaden the entire interior. Since the suspension install we have also went back to 3.55 gears and we will also be installing a set of widened wheels and much wider tires on the back end in preparation for a much larger supercharger install in the near future. He typically leaves the car for a few days when we do work for him. If you are around next week and want to stop in early in the week, feel free to do so.
  16. Hey Chuck! Good to see you over here.
  17. When do you want to drop it?
  18. One of our long time customers recently dropped off his 360 Spyder. He basically wanted all of the raw aluminum interior pieces wrapped to look like carbon fiber, an ipod adapter, and he wanted some base added to enhance the factory radio. This is what the interior pieces originally looked like. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4052&g2_serialNumber=1 And now in the carbon fiber wrap http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4064&g2_serialNumber=1 The guage cluster, radio bezel, and the center console were all done in the carbon fiber wrap. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4067&g2_serialNumber=1 The ipod cable was dropped in an easy to get to location. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4073&g2_serialNumber=2 A custom sub box with 2 Rockford 10"s was then built, glassed, and sprayed to match the car. It was finished off with the Ferrari logo done in black vinyl. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4079&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4076&g2_serialNumber=2 The marker lenses were all smoked as well. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4055&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4061&g2_serialNumber=2 And time to take the car out and see how it sounds.... http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4082&g2_serialNumber=1
  19. One of our customers recently dropped off his replica Cobra for some new carpeting and a custom wood dash. It was a little bit different project for us but it was alot of fun and turned out really well. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4111&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4117&g2_serialNumber=1 Here is what the dash looked like when we got the car. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4086&g2_serialNumber=1 And afterwards....The dash was built from scratch and the stearing wheel was refinished to match the dash. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4105&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4093&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4096&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4099&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4102&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4108&g2_serialNumber=1
  20. We have been swamped with projects at the shop lately. Here are a few pics of a 2010 GT500 Griggs suspension we just did for a customer. Basically the car went to Koni coil overs all the way around and the rear gets upgraded to a watts link as well as a torque arm. Stock ride height http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4177&g2_serialNumber=1 Stock underside http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4187&g2_serialNumber=2 Torque arm mount welded in place http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4199&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4193&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4205&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4211&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4220&g2_serialNumber=1 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=4226&g2_serialNumber=1
  21. We sure can. Do you have the arms already or would we need to supply them?
  22. Yeah, i can agree with that. The making it work thing is definitely a challenge that can lead to some long nights and large headaches but in the end it is totally worth it. The cool thing about this car is the guy actually drives it. It is from Canton and the guy picked it up and drove it back. He drove it down and back again last weekend for a few more things as well as a complete once over of all the work.
  23. Thanks Scott. I dont know about envy though.....This one was one that made you want to beat your head against a wall throughout the build. Everytime you would take a step forward it felt like 2 steps back either from waiting on parts, customer supplied parts having issues, or the time it took to custom fab things. It would have been WAY easier with a GM or Ford powertrain but then that probably wouldnt have been as cool...
  24. Yes it is a vintage air setup. Nothing was easy on the car. Everything fits very tightly and alot of things had to be meticulously clearanced to get everything in there. The trans tunnel is extremely tight. Fortunately the floor pan had been cut and a larger tunnel welded in prior to us working on the car which allowed us to get away with minimal modifications to get the trans in.
  25. 2011 5.0 with an Airraid CAI and a PPC Custom tune http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3943&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3946&g2_serialNumber=2 2011 5.0 with a Boss intake manifold, JLT carbon fiber cai, L&M throttle body, and a PPC Custom Tune http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3950&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3954&g2_serialNumber=2 http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3960&g2_serialNumber=2 This car was previously running a mail order tune from a BIG name mail order company. The car never felt right which is how we got our hands on it. Basically what was happening was the car was going into cat overtemp protection and dumping fuel very early rpm range and due to the way the tune was done the car ended up being very rich with little timing up top and power fell like a rock. A quick tune took care of the problems and put power right where it should be for that combo. http://pickupspluscars.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3966&g2_serialNumber=2
