The geforce 9400/9300 is great for laptops. It offers full acceleration, and is capable of 1080 bluray playback. You could also try updating directx as well. No. But to be helpful, different codecs and players can help you out a lot. I recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack for most playback needs. Also try VLC player, see if that smooths out performance.

I got a widget that allows me to quickly turn off syncing/gps/wifi/bluetooth with a simple touch. Also I'd try getting Advanced Task Killer from the market. Just do a killall on your apps, so they aren't running in the background all day. That does NOT sound normal for it to last only a few hours.
