  1. I understand what you're getting at, although I'm not sure it's a very good idea to "squirrel away a car." I think it would be unlikely that you could put a car in storage, start it a few times a year, and think that in 20 years "you could hose off all the grime, replace some rubber bits, and have a really unique cream puff of a car." I believe that you'd either have to be putting more time and money into the car all along, or else face a major refurbishing at the end of storage in order to have a cream puff. Obviously you disagree. I'm encouraged that someone has faith that 20 years from now we'll be able to buy petroleum that resembles the regular unleaded we buy now. I admit I'm a pessimist; I bought a vehicle that runs on kerosene, waste vegetable oil, and biodiesel. But if it's okay, I want to play the game you outlined. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/hbRg2EKGrHqYOKkYEznEZ9ykKBNOo3rrQ1w_4.jpg http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4dr-Sdn-Coll-5-7L-CD-Power-Windows-Power-Door-Locks-/230581370065?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item35afb87cd1 1-owner, 30,000 mile car in Florida, and my guess is the original owner has blue hair and sat low/drove slow. When I posted this, the bid was at $5,000. This car was a bit of an anachronism even when it was new. Twenty years from now people will think it's from Mars. Low tech for the year, probably won't have too much problem with parts availability, and I doubt many people are putting these away as their "babies." Cruise around in this in 2031 and you'll turn heads.
  2. Lindey's, Barcelona, Cap City open until 11 Fri & Sat Lemongrass open until 11:30 Fri & Sat (for a non-Japanese place, the sushi is great) Marcella's in the Short North is open until midnight Fri & Sat The Burgundy Room is open until 1 a.m. Fri & Sat Those are the better restaurants off the top of my head. Lots of cafes that serve food 24 hours, but not sure if that's what you're looking for.
  3. My part of Delaware went down at 3 a.m. Wednesday and just came back about an hour ago. Parking lots here this morning were an inch of ice with rain on top. Streets were just wet. I drove to Marion (at about 60 mph) at 6 a.m. and there it was just puddles--no ice. In rural Wyandot County just north of Marion, the nurse I work with said they couldn't get a snow plow down their lane, it had drifted so high. That's a lots of variability over such a small distance.
  4. Bump for new price (1,990) or place an eBay bid. Valentine's Day in two weeks
  5. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/images-1.jpg I once treated a patient who thought he was a big rotary fan. It was difficult to get the meds just right because he oscillated a lot. Seriously, there are RX7 enthusiasts aplenty on Columbus Racing, and I'm sure you'll find it worth your while to join. I suggest having a thick skin, being willing to listen to members who know more about what they're talking about than you do, and following the advice on the stickies: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61288 You're more likely to get repped-in with pics of your cars, dirty or not. And everyone here loves to see a work in progress. :nopics: If you have difficulty getting your pics posted, review this: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1743 If you want to wait until you clean-up/finish your cars to get photos, well, you might be waiting awhile before you can get out of the Oven and view the real content of the board. Welcome to CR. I hope to see you at our meets. + rep
  6. Thanks to everyone who posted. I learned a lot. I had always thought about the problems being traction mis-matches and had never considered the drivetrain wear because of the slight differences in diameter. I guess I was thinking that the slight differences in tire pressures (in the real world) and differences of tire deformities due to load (front tires often being pushed down more than the rear) would have accounted for more diameter differences than tread height would have. I guess my thinking is stuck in the 1960's. Special thanks to Derek for taking the time to explain it correctly and post all that text. I'd actually recommended you to Joe's pop when he first asked me about it. Joe, what can I say ....... I won't tell your Dad about your late-night, ricer-taunting exploits if you don't tell him about mine. (I don't think he'd believe you anyway.)
  7. A friend has a 2006 Audi A6 (AWD) and had a blowout on one tire. He went to a discount tire store, and they told him that he needed to replace the full set. His remaining 3 tires are Continentals (I don't know the specs) and they measured 6/32" tread depth all around. The tire salesman said that the new tire would have 10/32" tread depth, and that it would be unsafe to have one tire (regardless if mounted to front or back) with that much difference in tread depth. The tires have no cupping or uneven wear and are 18 months old with about 22k miles. Unsafe if he installs just one new tire? Poor handling? If he adds just one new tire, should it be to the front or rear? Your opinions will be helpful.

    I was owned. Twice. By a 305.
  9. Spyker, the supercar maker who recently bought Saab, has commissioned watches that don't just bear the car company's name, but also incorporate design elements of the car itself. My idea of eye candy for a car enthusiast: "typical" Spyker dash: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/Spyker-watch-151.jpg The Spyker watches: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/Spyker-watch-91.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/Spyker-watch-61.jpg notice how the airplane prop and the exhaust tip designs are used on the buttons and stem http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/Spyker-watch-31.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/spyker-chronograph-watch-2.jpg The latin inscription says, "No road is impassable for the tenacious." http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/2010-jaguar-c-x75-5_800x0w-1.jpg There's also a watch connection to the Jaguar C-X75 hybrid concept car that runs over 200 mph. This is one of the concepts on display at the current auto show. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/2010-jaguar-c-x75-5_800x0w.jpg An unusual design element of the car is that in the bottom seat cushion, between the occupant's legs, is a lever marked PULL, similar to the ejector seat handle in a fighter jet. This lever, however, opens the car door. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/2010-jaguar-c-x75-11_800x0w.jpg The maker of the concept car's clock, Bremont, makes a watch, the MB 1 chronometer, which is pretty exclusive. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/watches/Bremont-Martin-Baker-MB-1.jpg The watch can only be purchased by someone who has successfully ejected from a Martin-Baker ejection seat (about 4800 pilots have been saved by these seats). Each watch will be engraved with that individual's ejection seat number. The watches are tested by being launched from aircraft ejection seats and also undergo vibration testing meant to similate extreme conditions. From the press release: An Ejection Seat may sit for 40 years, but the day it is used, it has to work. As a Company, their testing facility is unique, and one of its facilities will endow the new watch with a trial found nowhere else: the ability to simulate 30 years of aircraft life through a vibration machine, during a 4-hour test. There are possessions that money alone won't buy. I'll bet that The Most Interesting Man in the World wears one.
  10. I think you can hold off on posting pictures of your arm. It seems unusual to have someone wanting to join a car forum who says he's been a gear head all of his life, but doesn't own a car. It's also a little odd for someone to post pics of someone else's car in his intro thread. However, there have been much stranger happenings here. I admire your enthusiasm and attitude, and if you've got mechanic and body work skills, then you're ahead of me. So, welcome I guess. + rep
  11. Have you checked with any of the CR sponsors who sell tires? I've found Derek at NTB Downtown to be very competitive in pricing and the service there is highly rated by CR members. Derek's profile: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/member.php?u=1089 Other CR members I do business with and whose shops do a great job are Steve (Wonder Jones) at Boyd's Goodyear in Westerville: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/member.php?u=4990 and Jeremy at Boyd's in Hilliard.

Let the record show that in the thread entitled "Irony," the grammar Nazi was pwnd.

  16. Allow me to help a bit. There is nothing to understand. They use a combination of random words to fill gaps in their train of thought. Now sometimes that works, but when thinking about zip ties, duct tape, oil leaks and crank walk they get very confused themselves, which confuses us non-DSM owners. Personally I find the statement in life, "Ignorance is bliss," to hold true. I'm a happy mofo. I don't know how I'll do it, but I will keep telling them I'm faster. It won't happen, but hey this is fun none-the-less. Half a job is no job.
  17. I'm headed to Ctown later and feel like I'm due for some good grub. Akai Hana or Piada? Red Robin/Polaris? Post up preferred place and time. I'm sure a consensus will be reached.
  18. CT scan? You know about those, don't you? I'd ask to see the maintenance records before you dive into that tube. You know, they let just anybody service those things. Seriously, I hope the news is all good and that you're feeling better soon.
  19. I'm figuring I'll need a roll cage, so I'm working on the design for it now. Steel core with boxwood inlaid walnut burl veneers. I want something that won't detract from the overall interior theme .......
  20. I hope you get to feeling better, Mr. R. If you need anything, lemme know.
  21. OP made it clear he wasn't making the thread to debate the merits of Blockbuster's marketing strategy, he just wants to hook some people up with free movies, maybe help you get a good buy on some DVD's. Why are you hating on him? Get yer butts over to the store and help him on his bonus. Costs you nuthin', gets you free movies, helps his paycheck.
  22. It'll definitely be a battle of wits. May the force be with you. Pics (or lack thereof) in the morning will tell us who outwitted whom.
