  1. It was too warm for me to do well ...... and the car was slow, too. 12.73 @ 113 mph the worst time I've had with the green beast I had a lot on for today so it had to be a one and done. It was great talking to you all. Sorry I missed a few of you before I had to go. Thanks to the admins, especially to Tina, Anthony and their family, who all did a great job making things work.
  2. My thanks go out to Austin (99StockGT) and all the fine folks at Lucore Automotive. Not only are they regular corporate sponsors of CR, but they've been steadfast supporters of the Rally North America charities. This year was no exception -- their generous donation to Hope for the Warriors moved me up into 15th place in fundraising. I'll be wearing my Lucore blue polo tomorrow when I bring the Team Bentley entry to Cars & Coffee. The rally stickers are installed and look great. Pics to follow this weekend.
  3. Farkas, thanks for supporting Hope for the Warriors. We've had some great rallies together, eh? http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Rally%20Appalachia%202011/bilde2.jpg Keeping me between the lines, 2011 Appalachian Rally
  4. Casey (caseyctsv), thanks for your generous support. It's much appreciated. And I'm sorry I couldn't find a car that would meet all your daughter's criteria and yet still be kewl.
  5. Jim Rose (clone), thank you so much for your very generous contribution to Hope for the Warriors. That money will do a great deal of good for those who serve our country abroad and for their families. Jordan (2highpsi), you and JET AUTO GROUP have been there for all of the rally charities I've worked with. You're truly a class act and we're fortunate to have you and your business on CR.
  6. Anyone headed to a meet tonight? 9:30 Best Buy at 3840 Morse Road will be my pick
  7. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/brace%202_zpsfo7ejl8r.jpg Made a new friend at Dayton C&C. It seemed like quite the coincidence ... there was only one other Bentley there and it was also a 2014 Convertible, although it was a GT and mine is a Speed. It was my first time at the Dayton one. My observations, FWIW: 1) It kicks off early. Official start time is 8 a.m., but there are a good number of cars there by 7:30 a.m. 2) There was a major departure underway by 9:30, although some stay as late as 11. 3) Bigger crowd than ours. I'd estimate 2-3x as big. 4) Upscale area. Super nice restrooms in the buildings, but also portajohn availability 5) Coffee wagon on site, but it seemed that most participants brought their own 6) There is a small, reserved-parking area that sponsors buy and use for their highline cars 7) Less variety than our own C&C. Few hot rods, I saw one rat rod, few cars older than 1960, very few low-end cars, few trucks, about the same number of bikes as Columbus. More of the expensive rare, but not truly exotic, cars. 8) Most of the cars were very clean 9) Fewer owners who built their cars/more owners who bought it as it sits. 10) Fewer skeptics in the crowd. More people who wanted to compliment the cars and make the owners feel welcome. 11) No burnouts and excessive revving leaving the event, but right next to the west end of the venue is the on-ramp to I-75 North. Many of the cars really open up there. Police were waiting just down the road. Light police presence at the actual venue (Austin Landing, in Miamisburg). It was a great time. I must have had a dozen people ask me to start coming regularly, but if I return, I think my strategy will be to get there at 7:30 a.m., leave at 9:30 and hit the second half of Lennox. That will be the Super Saturday C&C Morning.
  8. Well, Mitch, if I don't go to Lennox, then I guess the whole event will have to be cancelled. You see, it IS all about me
  9. It looks as though the rain threat has moved on .... anyone up for QSL around 7, then possibly Chantry meet later? Also, there's another Dayton Cars & Coffee Saturday morning I'm going to if the streets are dry in the early morning.
  10. I had to laugh at the other Beat owner's Craigslist ad, "only 20 Beats currently in the U.S." Duncan Imports has 39 of them currently for sale in the U.S. http://www.duncanimports.com/wholesale-used-inventory/index.htm?search=beat&saveFacetState=true&compositeType=&lastFacetInteracted=
  11. Thank you, Adam (Iwashmycar), for the donation. You're my hero.
  12. Brian, many thanks to you and your wife, Nikki, for your donation, your friendship, and your support. I'm hoping the three of us get to rally together many more miles in the years to come.
  13. Thank you Marc and Brad. You guys always come through for the Rally charities. Yours gifts are much appreciated.
  14. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/finished%20full%20lightened_zpsnnnr4qbw.jpg Again for 2017 I'll be driving in the Rally North America event, Rally Appalachia 2. Every year, Rally North America chooses a charity to benefit from the event, instead of having prizes for the winners. This year, "Hope for the Warriors" has been chosen as the beneficiary. Hope for the Warriors is a national non-profit, founded in 2000 by military wives and still operated under the direction of them. They provide support to wounded U.S. veterans and their families. Read more about them here:http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org/about/ My navigator for the Rally will be my friend of nearly 40 years, Charlie Copp. Charlie is a retired Marine Colonel and Operation Desert Storm combat veteran. In the second week in July we'll be covering some of the best roads in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. We have events on Virginia International Raceway and Talladega Super Speedway. We'll be taking the Bentley, and once the stickers are installed, I'll post a few photos of the green beast. Over the last seven years, CR has had great representation at the Rally North America events and has had numerous podium finishes. And we've raised over $ 600,000 for charities. You might be interested in knowing that Rally North America was co-founded by Scott Spielman (Spieldawg), a Columbus Racing member since 2008. More on Rally North America is here: https://www.facebook.com/RallyNorthAmerica I'm asking friends (who are comfortable donating) to make an online donation through my page:http://support.hopeforthewarriors.org/site/TR/Events/2017RallyNorthAmerica?team_id=1572&pg=team&fr_id=1180#.WTSCR7pFxdi Click on the blue button "GIVE NOW" on the top right-hand side of the page. Donations are tax-deductable and you're emailed a receipt for tax purposes within the hour. Your donation goes directly to the charity; none of it goes to the Rally or to my team. All of us are donating our time and paying all our own expenses (of course, we have a lot of fun in return, too). Any donation from individuals, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Because of some limitations regarding the stickers, I will be unable to put the names of businesses making donations on the car. But I hope the many businesses who have supported me in the past can again be generous. Thanks!
  15. I'll be on the patio around 6:30, provided I can get one of my jalopies to fire up.

  17. It was good for the first hour or so. I bolted ahead of the rain but got into some light stuff in Delaware County.
  18. There's about 30 cars, pretty mellow
  19. There are a few cars already at best buy Easton.
  20. Hilliard had a small meet yesterday at Mission Performance, and I know there's a Hoover meet Monday 2-4, but that's all I know about for the rest of the holiday weekend. If you hear about a Hilliard meet tonight, please post it here.
  21. Nice turnout at QSL last night and then later off of Brice Road (until 11:30 when it started to rain). I was glad I got to meet CR members whom I had previously only known by screen name. I bailed on this morning's trek to Dayton because it was still pretty wet in Delaware at 5 a.m. But I'll be at Columbus Cars & Coffee at Lennox at 9 with free coffee for CR members. Indian Monsooned Malabar with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamon added. Bring your own mug or use the styrofoam cups provided. If you need pour over or Chai or chocolate, may I recommend Starbucks. See you there.
  22. I'll likely be there at 6:30 or so, on the patio.
