  1. Rick, things went great thanks to your careful planning and hard work. I was impressed with your students and your school. A real plus for the event was that there seemed to be an activity for everyone attending regardless of age or interest. As always, it was great seeing the dozen of so CR folks. Thanks for parking us all together. I look forward to next year.
  2. The show is a pretty good excuse to do the breakfast buffet at Der Dutchman around 7:30. Any takers? Mitch?
  3. Lots of good comments and food for thought in this thread. I'm now adapting to newer technologies in ways I wouldn't have considered just two or three years ago. I had long been an advocate of buying vs leasing and of acquiring used vs. new, and of the virtue of distinctive cars over cookie-cutter cars. But this week the equation changed for me and I sold a couple cars and leased a new Honda Accord Hybrid base model. Not totally EV, I know, but getting an honest 52 mpg in the first 300 miles (higher than its EPA estimates) and enjoying gliding around town silently in full EV mode. Things change.
  4. That's kind of you to say, Rick. The trophy isn't important, I just want to bring something to the show that spectators will enjoy. It's a disappointment to prep a car and devote the time to, from, and during a show just to find no one there has the slightest interest in your ride. The Michigan roads I drive will be spectacular when the trees are at peak, but it appears that they won't be in full color until a week from now, so I plan to bring the Bentley to the show Saturday. See you there!
  5. If I'm in-state I'll be happy to bring a car out and support the students. The competition right now is a northern Michigan fall color tour, and the forecast map doesn't update until tomorrow night. If I can make it, what car do you think the students and spectators would want to see? Choose one: Slingshot, green Bentley, Figaro, Viewt, Toyota Century, Celica GT4 WRC, FRS/BRZ/GT86
  6. Well, the guy was 66 ....... just sayin' He lived the rock star life, still touring up until a few weeks ago, went out at the top of his game, massive cardiac arrest .......... I should be so lucky as to bow out like this. To the guy who sang: Well I know what's right I got just one life In a world that keeps on pushin' me around But I'll stand my ground And I won't back down R.I.P.
  7. If you're headed to Lennox for Columbus Cars and Coffee and if you're one of those guys who needs a little caffeine with his gasoline, stop by and see me-- I made some extra java today. No, there's no chocolate sprinkles, gluten-free non-dairy environmentally friendly creamer, writing on your cup shit going on here, so don't ask.
  8. I don't know anything about those tires, but I do know that it would be hard to beat the deal that Derek at Best One would give you. Also, I'd give him a call for advice on pros/cons of different brands if he doesn't chime-in on this thread.
  9. Yeah, last minute, but it's great weather and that patio is calling .......
  10. Tomorrow's Dayton Cars and Coffee is at a different location than normal. It will be an extra large meet and will precede the Dayton Concours d'Elegance. Dayton C&C will be held near downtown at Carillon Historical Park. For those using this brand new trend, FaceLook, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/events/450758535261815/?acontext=%7B%22ref%22%3A%223%22%2C%22ref_newsfeed_story_type%22%3A%22regular%22%2C%22feed_story_type%22%3A%2217%22%2C%22action_history%22%3A%22null%22%7D I think I'll stick with good ol' Lennox tomorrow. Posted as a PSA for those who head west from time to time.
  11. Here's the only one I've got ... I'm sure he can post better ones: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/934_zpsmlqzceqq.jpg
  12. Hey, Bryson. Glad to see you took my advice and joined CR. I think you'll like it here. There are UNOH alumni here and lots of knowledge pooled amongst the members here. Hope to see you out for some CR events when you're not studying.
  13. Welcome! There's nothing wrong with occasional ignorance. You'll fit right in.
  14. Have you driven one, Grant? I am really surprised if you did and liked it. Car and Driver gave it 2 stars out of 5. From their review: "You’ll be forced to get used to low-speed travel while driving the CT200h, because acceleration is downright lethargic. Getting to highway speeds is a struggle, as the CT takes more than 10 seconds to get up to 60 mph—that’s slower than nearly all of today’s economy cars, and even more sluggish than the latest Prius, the Two Eco, which performed the same task in 9.4 seconds. Because the CT is stuck with an older version of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, it isn’t able to combine its gas and electric power sources as seamlessly as newer hybrids, and the four-cylinder drones noisily under hard acceleration. The decently tuned chassis is also let down by the vague feel of the brake pedal, and the mostly composed handling comes at the expense of ride quality, which verges on harsh when traversing rougher roads."
  15. Fuel Depot in Delaware only has on-road and off-road diesel, no #1 currently. I would think that this makes more sense for you: http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/fuel-additives/diesel/diesel-cold-flow/?code=ADDCN-EA I wouldn't treat your whole re-supply now, I would wait until late fall. One bottle treats 80 gallons, allows a 40 degree lowering of clouding point. It's much cheaper than buying #1, since #1 will cause you a decrease in mileage compared to treated #2. You can order online and get it mailed to you. If you think you're going to use a whole lot of this, any Amsoil dealer or preferred customer can get the product at 25% off retail. If you're willing to pick it up in Columbus, I'll get it for you and you'll also save the shipping. PM me if you want to do that. I don't charge any markup on Amsoil products to any CR member. I keep limited supplies of most oils in stock at the Hangout.
  16. I was just north of you, in Crofton. Perfect viewing, well worth the 795 mile roundtrip. I had terrible traffic both ways: accidents, detours, construction, very high volume. But what a sight the total eclipse was! The disappearing perimeter of the sun just before totality, the "diamond ring," and then the eerie experience of seeing only the corona -- no disappointments for me. I saw one planet, but no stars. It was interesting how the locals do their best to make some spare income with parking and the like. An unexpected perk was some roll racing on the way home (on the part of the trip which went through Mexico).
  17. It's a fun Cars & Coffee to attend. I'll be there if it's not rainy ..... but as of now it's looking as though it will be a bit damp. :fuuuu:
  18. I didn't think much about going until I looked at the totality path. I figure I'll get up early Monday morning and if the weather forecast is favorable I'll drive 6 hours to near Princeton, Kentucky, watch the eclipse for 3 hours, then make it back home for a late supper. My recollection was that I witnessed a total solar eclipse in 1963. However, after a few minutes of google research, I see that what I saw was only a partial eclipse, although I recall it becoming relatively dark and how I was shocked at how the insects, birds, and house pets all reacted very dramatically. That was more impressive than watching the image in the homemade pinhole cardboard camera that all of us kids made. I'm really hoping it remains clear during this one coming up. I'd like to, just once, be there for a total eclipse.
  19. Car Stuff's newest podcast devoted the first five minutes or so to this rally and to the experience of driving at Talladega with us. http://www.carstuffshow.com/podcasts/100-best-and-worst-cities-to-drive-in.htm
  20. West Broad wasn't much. For being "invite only," it was pretty much a poverty meet. Fortunately clone was there so there was someone to talk with. I did see something I'd never before witnessed: the car parked next to me was repossessed during the meet. Seriously. The old Circuit City on Sawmill had some fast cars and some familiar faces, but stayed small. Police came by and just said disperse if the street cleaner shows up to do the lot. We were gone long before then. The Marysville gang and the Delaware kids are both having more success holding meets than anyone in Columbus right now.
  21. 5401 West broad. I think it closed at 10.
  22. Some people have started gathering at the auto zone on West broad. Manager has given his Blessing. Might be worth checking out if Circuit City gets shut down.
  23. If this wind doesn't abate, we'll all need jackets tonight.
  24. Looks like at least 6 for QSL. I'm going to try Andersons on Sawmill one more time tonight. Last Friday was big, but Saturday was just a dozen or so cars.
