  1. What is this Facelook of which you speak? Is that a thing now? Which button do I push to join? http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af208/trentrbrts/0723c2d51808b920cfa10755ff798e65_old-cell-phone-old-cell-phone-clipart_1300-957_zps2zhzn65f.jpg
  2. As of 5 p.m. today there is one single spot available for this summer's rally. Anyone wishing to go after the last spot is taken will have the option of being put on a wait list.
  3. Paul, I was able to set up and use a Firestick, then Kodi, then Exodus, so I'm sure you can. However, I had to resort to some online sources for trouble shooting problems and fixing glitches, so I don't mean to tell you it's a snap. For example, when first launching Kodi, I got the "Can't download obb" message and tried for about 30 minutes to fix it on my own, only to find that it's not uncommon to have that error message (which locks-up everything) up to five times after your first download. :dumb: If someone who has done the procedure once before helps you, you can easily have it set up in less than a half hour.
  4. The official video of the summer rally just came out. I prefer the Team Jack one above, but between the two, they give you a pretty good feel for a rally. Here's the official one: There are 15 open slots right now. I figured it would fill immediately, but I believe that it will hit capacity within a few weeks. So don't wait!
  5. I think it would be difficult to keep to that budget and get a dependable car 40-50 years old. Also, consider that when parts fail, replacements often are not so easily available (and affordable) that you could keep the car in daily service. Obviously you like the concept of using a classic for a DD .... I'd just be ready to either spend more up front or budget a good amount for regular repair.
  6. Congrats on your purchase. Definitely a good choice for your winter beater, as the dried road salt spray will hardly show on that color. And I wouldn't let anyone give you grief over your preference for an automatic. Thinking like yours will definitely help you make a smooth transition to self driving cars in the near future and on to a network of 100% transportation pods on a grid shortly thereafter. You're just way ahead of most of us.
  7. This may be of some help to you: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1743
  8. I'd get right on it on Sunday, Austin. As of now there are 19 team spots open. If you miss one of those, you'll need to make do with being on a waiting list. I think you and your wife would have a blast on one of these.
  9. A Raptor's bound to be a great ride. I remember competing against one in the Route 66 Rally, where its ability to climb over concrete curbs gave it a definite edge. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/teamrapto.jpg Welcome to CR. You just missed our Holiday party which wasn't far from you, just at the north end of Liberty Road. Hope to see you at our spring events.
  10. Thanks for the tip, but if you're talking about 463 W. Town, it's a lot smaller than I need. I'd like 6-10k sf which could have at least 4-5k sf of garage (ground floor) and the rest to remodel for an office and an upscale apartment. Ideally it would have high fencing surrounding the lot. A lot larger building will also work, as there are plenty of CR peeps needing secure storage.
  11. Clay, find me a commercial building in east Franklinton with at least 6k square feet and we'll make it CR central.
  12. At midnight on New Year's Eve, the registration will open for new teams to sign-up for the 2017 Rally North America event. Veterans from past rallies have pre-paid for the first 49 positions (of 70 total). Here's the full info and the registration link: https://www.rallynorthamerica.com/events/rally-appalachia-2-july-2017/ This one's a lot closer and shorter (Virginia to Georgia) but includes driving events at VIR and at Talladega. It looks as though the driving and the activities will be even better than on previous rallies. The officially-sanctioned video from the 2016 rally is still not completed, but I posted this one once before. It was remarkably 98% complete by the end of the rally and gives you some feel for rally life, at least from one team's perspective: Feel free to PM me any questions or just post to this thread.
  13. This morning, for a little exercise, I decided to walk from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. Having finished that, I think I'll take a nap.
  14. To Rick, Ryan, Clay, Tim and the others who couldn't make it out -- sorry you had to miss it. It was a great time that didn't shut down until 1 a.m. Tina, thank you for making the desserts and coffee. Everyone enjoyed them. Thanks to Tina and Anthony for organizing this each year. It's a big dose of car talk in the middle of some bleak weather and it's a much-needed relaxation break in the midst of a stressful holiday season. Thanks to the dozen members who ventured to the Hangout after dinner. It was nice to have the place lively again and renew old friendships around the warmth of the fireplace.
  15. Another vote for Michelin XIce. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk across the parking lot to my garage, it was so slick. Practicing patience at this point, since I know it will all be melted soon enough.
  16. The Hangout will open at 9 p.m. or shortly thereafter. You are all are welcome whether or not you attended the dinner at Quaker Steak. There is new signage and improved lighting. Two large Howald Industrial Park signs are at 320 London Road in Delaware. Sat/nav should take you right to the entrance. The Hangout is in the first building on the left as you come into the Park and will be the only place with Christmas lights in the windows. There's plenty of parking directly in front of the building. Please drive safely to and from the party. As of now, there is no ice forecast until after 2 a.m, but random spots may be slippery (including sidewalks around the building). As always, no drugs or alcohol are permitted on the premises. If you have problems finding the place, text me at 740-405-5565. I hope you can make it.
  17. Congratulations on the award. Your photos are all first-place in my book. Thanks for sharing them.
  18. The steering wheel is on the left side .... not sure I could get used to that. It's too weird.
  19. I'm afraid that ship sailed long ago. We're at the involuntary commitment stage.
  20. Thanks for the offer, but I need to do it myself as punishment for letting the shop get so dirty. The last time I mopped the floor was a year ago, right before the holiday party. :dumb:
  21. Just put up the Christmas lights and cleaned the office, so at least that part will be nice for us. We'll see if I get around to cleaning the cars and the shop floor by Saturday.
  22. As folks start to decide if they're coming out to this or not, it would be helpful to know how many plan to come to the Hangout afterwards. Please PM me or post to thread. Thanks!
  23. https://toughnickel.com/starting-business/auto-repair-shop-names more advice "Manic Mechanic" is hard to say without smiling.
  24. One of the truly great men of our time and one who remained modest despite his achievements. Many years ago (maybe in the 80's?) he spoke at a dinner I attended and he told this story (as best I can remember it): I recently spoke at an event and after my speech, the host speaker heaped praises on me and called me "one of the few true American heroes. I thought about that phrase a few minutes, and then leaned over to my wife, Annie, and said, "you know, there really aren't many true American heroes." Annie immediately replied, "i know one thing -- there's one fewer than what you're thinking." So whenever I'm praised and my head starts to get too big, I'm blessed to have Annie by my side to keep me on course.
  25. I know that there are over twenty CR members who have veteran status in RNA. If you're interested in the 2017 Rally (Rally Appalachia 2), you may want to register ASAP. https://www.rallynorthamerica.com/events/rally-appalachia-2-july-2017/ Registration has been open for only 3 days and 46 of the 70 total slots are already taken. This rally may fill before opening to the public January 1. This one's a lot closer and shorter (Virginia to Georgia) but includes driving events at VIR and at Talladega. It looks as though the driving and the activities will be even better than on previous rallies. I hope to see some CR teams back for this one.
