  1. Definitely a good tip on the discounted price. I was happy to see Mid-Ohio rated with a number of epic U.S. tracks this issue. Looks like a worthwhile purchase. Thanks!
  2. Apparently, not. Both the original post and what you and others posted have made me think this through more carefully. I admit, I hadn't given a lot of thought to the issue. I'm a gun owner who believes citizens have the right to own firearms, but I also think there needs to be an upper limit to how much destructive capacity should be allowed an individual without special training or authorization. At the extremes, I guess I don't think I should have the right to nuclear weapons or biological weapons, but I also don't believe that I should be denied the right to own a firearm, a sword, or a crossbow. It's that space between the extremes that tax our reasoning and elevate our blood pressures. My comment was, admittedly, superficial. I didn't say that the quotation made the case--only that it was a very good talking point. I still believe it's a good point, despite its flaws, because it counters the pervasisve notion that removing one of the means of killing will reduce killing in general. I'm encouraged that at least some of the citizens in the debate are thinking this through more carefully than I have. Thanks for taking the time to point it out to me.
  3. "In a nation of 311 million people, the odds of being killed by a rifle is about one homicide per million people, which is far less than the odds of being murdered by a blunt object. But we don’t hear the media arguing about regulating hammers and clubs. Again, when 99.7% of registered gun owners are law-abiding, gun control is not about guns, it’s about control." The above quotation from the article is one of the best talking points that I've heard in the debate so far. The revelation that the media twisted facts to sensationalize the story is no surprise, but it was news to me. Thanks for the thread, Scott.
  4. We should be back from dinner and at the Hangout by 9:30 p.m. Howald Industrial Park 320 London Road, Suite 101 (in Building 100) OPEN sign in window Delaware, Ohio
  5. I like the Jason's Deli idea. Even Blue Ginger sounds good. I probably won't drive 25 miles to go to Cane's, though, but I know some CR folks love them. Once there's a place/time confirmed for dinner, then I can post the Hangout opening time; it will likely be around 9 or 10.
  6. I'm willing to open the Hangout after dinner if there's enough interest.
  7. Maybe it would be easier for you if you would think of your drive as just a quarter mile with a very long shutdown stretch. We were off to a slow start tonight but ended up with 11 total. Folks must have had a fairly good time because I had to shoo the last five at 3 a.m. See you next weekend!
  8. Holy Joes deep dish pizza sounds pretty good. And, yes, the Hangout will be open tonight after 9 or 9:30: Howald Industrial Park 320 London Road, Suite 101 (in Building 100) OPEN sign in window Delaware, Ohio In case you decide you want to watch a movie, I've got the Blue-Ray for Looper, F&F 1-5, Gone in 60 Secs (newer version), Boondock Saints 1&2, Drive, and a few others.
  9. I lean towards May 1 as the kick-off for car gatherings. You might have a dry, warm, sunny day in Ohio in March or April, but it's more the exception than the rule.
  10. Perhaps see if Dr. Rick has an extra bedroom?
  11. Easy lads, he didn't go into details regarding all his injuries (and he mentioned head injuries for starters). He served in combat --he has every right to the VA benefits, IMHO. People do stupid stuff all the time and use govt/insurance benefits---no reason to single him out. Insurance is sharing the risk and the expense.
  12. I heard you got some kickass deal on your limo rental, too, but they sent some geriatric driver who had been drinking
  13. We've got a dozen folks here already, come join the fun.
  14. The table at QSL is reserved as Columbus Racing. I'm just inside the front door now waiting to be seated.
  15. You obviously haven't met CR's homeboy, D. Wiggs. Not only is his stable worth more than that Veyron's price tag, hell, he has a car that has already beaten that Super Veyron that hasn't been built yet. :fuckyeah: There are even videos of Wiggs putting bus links on the SV, but NASA hasn't declassified them yet.
  16. The more, the merrier. A few others have texted to say they're coming, although they haven't posted. Drive safely, boyos.
  17. My suggestion for dinner: Quaker Steak & Lube, meet there 7:00. Leave QSL for the Hangout around 8:30. Hangout should be open by 9:00 for any people skipping QSL. If you're a Hangout Virgin, there's Foosball, 55" screen with XB360 ready to go, Forza 4 with wheel/pedal simulator setups, Forza Horizon. Heated shop area for work on your car, but only basic tools available and no lifts. Please do not bring alcohol or drugs on the premises. A good variety of non-alcoholic drinks are provided free. You're welcome to poke around my cars, but don't expect a museum experience. Stay as late as you want. Restrooms are on-site. Your parked cars are within eyesight. The front door will open at 9:00 p.m. The hangout is smoke-free, but you can smoke in the garage (police your own butts) or smoke right outside the front door and use the smokers' station. Please do not throw butts in the parking lot or in the shrubbery. In case you haven't been there, here are directions: Howald Industrial Park 320 London Road, Suite 101 (in Building 100) OPEN sign in window Delaware, Ohio (across from the intersection of London Road & Liberty Road) the place is 14 miles north of Home Depot/Sawmill it is 1.5 miles from the large Jegs Warehouse at Route 42 and London Road If you are coming from Columbus, it's easy to just go north on US 23 to the first Delaware exit (South Sandusky Street, exit to the left but turn right on Sandusky St., then go about a mile and turn left onto London Road at the McDonalds. The place will be on your right just after the Delco Drive Through. If you are coming from Sawmill, go directly north on Sawmill Road until it ends at the Hyatts Road Roundabout. Turn right (east) on Hyatts Road, go into the village of Hyatts, turn left (north) on Liberty Road. Liberty road dead ends at the industrial park (turn left onto London Road, then immediately right, into the park). Questions/problems: Text me at 740-405-5565. Hope to see you out tonight!
  18. The Jag was a shocker for me. I'm a big fan of the supercharged cats, but I never expected an XKR-S to fare so well in the company of some of these cars.
  19. Movie night is fine by me. I can help you arrange pizza delivery if you want, or we could buy some bulk popcorn. There are floor cushions which seldom get used and we can break those out if we have more than a dozen people watching the movie. A number of the movies mentioned have already played at the Hangout or are sitting in a stack on the TV stand; most are blue-ray. I'm not currently set up for NetFlex. Please give me a day or two advance notice if you're planning on using the place so that I can have the frig stocked.
  20. Great compilation, BW. Awesome build and driving by Ray.
  21. QFT http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Import%20Face%20Off%202011/photo_13146598528acea1e27.jpg Those NOS models stalked me for weeks after the event :fuckyeah:
  22. Sta-bil in the tank and battery tender for sure. IMHO they still need to be driven for at least 20 minutes every 3-4 weeks to minimize problems.
  23. I bought my coffee at Stauf's for 25 years and still believe they work hard at getting the best coffee and do the best job roasting the beans. However, the prices crept up over the years and it wasn't convenient for me to make the drive every week or so. My local grocery (Buehler's) carries Monsooned Malabar in the whole bean. The supplier is Scenic River. I believe it's $7/lb vs. $19/lb at Stauf's (and it's often out of stock at Stauf's).
  24. I'm happy that you went with the Preciso--I don't think you can beat it for the price. If I understand correctly, the Aeropress's claimed advantage is that it minimizes extraction time to avoid bitterness. Based on that, I would recommend going to a finer grind setting with the Preciso or a slightly higher water temp before going to a longer extraction time. What water are you using? If you're using filtered water which has a lot of the minerals of tap water removed, then try just a small pinch of table salt in the grounds. This will aid extraction if your water is de-mineralized. I also throw a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of cloves into a brew basket, but that's just my personal taste. If you do this, be careful to keep the amounts tiny so as not to disrupt the balance of the coffee's flavor. I think those two spices help bring out the taste of India Monsooned Malabar coffee, which I prefer and which is not nearly as expensive as the "gourmet" coffees.
