wow that sounds pretty well worth it. do you all think this is a good idea? i mean are we gonna drop $800 or so and then in 1000 miles have the engine blow? or is this a pretty safe bet?
-
awesome, thanks. you guys think we'd be okay buying an engine with 180,000 miles? how much would labor be for install???
-

My girlfriend just found out that her 95 grand am 2 door 3.1 V6 has a bad engine. Took it in and before they were gonna do a bunch of repairs they realized it has a bad rod and needs an all new engine according to the guy. What lead him to discover this is a horrible clicking noise that the car made constantly. He said it would be about 3500 for another engine so we were like shiiiiiiit might as well buy a new car. Then i got to thinking. Junkyards and craigslist and places like that sell used engines for a few hundred dollars right? She would just need the 3.1 V6 from a 94-98 model. Can anyone please give me some tips on where to look? what junkyards are there around here? that i could call or go to? also, what would labor be to pull out the old engine put another engine in? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info. ....turns out this thread is useless because she needs a new engine....starting a new thread about that lol http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1150738#post1150738 -
Hey everyone, My girlfriend is getting her 95 grand am (2 door, 3.1 V6) fixed up. its been sitting on the street and needed fixed for awhile...just gonna be around 500 or 600 for everything to get it in good condition again. The only problem is, the mechanic quoted her 600 to fix the power windows. They are off the track, and the driver side in particular has about a 2 cm gap between the top of the window and the door, so its open constantly. He said it was because the regulators had gone bad. He said it would be about 130 for each regulator, 108 to install each, then after tax and stuff 600. I don't remember EXACTLY what he said, but thats the jist of it. Is 600 too much for all this? anybody on here do it for less? Is there something else we could do to somehow get it back on track with the current regulators? Thanks for you help, -Kevin

anyone know about this stuff? is it safe? gonna hurt my car?

My ricer friend (who now owns a pimped SRT4) used to take his civic to clean off the engine and intakes and all that. make it look shiny, like civic ricers like to do. it was on main street near summit...or broad street near summit? at a gas station? anyone know the place i'm talking about, or a place similiar, or just a place where i can put some stuff on to clean out my dirty engine bay?

@boosted: thanks. I'm looking to spend no more than a grand counting installation, so even if i found turbo parts cheap it still end up costing more than i want to put into this car. i have thought alot about doing that in the past though. @Zipline and Fyrhzrd: the kit from VAP Auto is only 350 once i send in my TB. he has everything put together so nicely including gaskets and all the proper length bolts and great install instructions. The other parts besides the intake itself would cost me 235 from him. then 60 for that intake would be 295. I'm willing to pay $50 for convenience and customer service and to know i'm getting exactly what i need and that all the parts will be high quality and everything. I'm either not gonna get the pulleys, or find some used for a better price on a V6 forum like you suggested. paying more than $100 for like 5hp isn't worth it.

What i'm going to say is ridiculous, but, if i didn't spend the money on my car it'd get spent on my girlfriend. going on all kinds of dates at fancy restaurants and stuff. plus like FyrhzrdGT said, i wanna spice up the daily drive. I like weaving in and out of traffic every day on broad street. i like showing off to my friends. I'm putting 35% of everything i make from now on into an account for a car. over the next 4 years i should save up 10,000 into my car account, add selling my current car to that, take out a couple thousand dollar loan if necessary and i've got myself a sweet ride. so i'm not worried about saving for the next car. @boosted98, ya, even the GT of my year is pretty slow for a V8 "muscle car." But like i said, for now, i wanna spice up the Daily Drive a little. I know i'm doing the windstar, i'll have to see if i can get a better price than 300 for the UDP. that seems a waste. maybe i'll lower it as you say.

emailed steven the guy who makes em and he said it doesn't need a tune at all. i'm going with the windstar intake kit from VAP Auto and the Steeda Underdrive Pulleys. thanks for all your advice/help gearhead. i'll be giving you a call in a month or two once i have everything.
