Best 1990's quarter to three quarter ton truck?
FyrhzrdGT replied to TN94Z28's topic in Passing Lane
I like my F250 351 and my friend loves his F250 7.3, and I had a rock solid '86 F150 351 4x4. -
Starter on the 1990 gas doesn't work but it push started really easily and it ran and drove. Smoked when you gave it gas and I think the valve cover is leaking onto the exhaust manifold. But the trans engaged all the gears and and the engine makes some power. Obviously a rebuilder but the 1990 motor isn't totally smoked. I can't test the 1986 motor since there is no trans. $150 for the 1986 chassis with motor
-
You're allowed to blame it on me.
-
Engine and trans won't be out of the '90 until I bring it up here. But there is an engine in the '86. I am going to try to sell the '86 whole first. Sure you don't want the whole car? $150obo for the '86 and everything that is in it. Pulling the motor and pulling the seals is enough work to want like $100 for all that stuff. It'd be easier if you bought the whole thing.

I just bought a 1990 Jetta non-turbo diesel. I am going to be learning the way these little things work too. If you get into this one hit me up and we can learn some of it together. I am swapping mine out of a rusty 1990 diesel into a straight 1990 gas shell. Don't run it on WVO if you want it to run forever. Either buy biodiesel, or do a lot of reading and learn how to make it yourself. Straight WVO is very low in lubricity, you'll wind up with some good low compression after while. Biodiesel can be made from a WVO base, but you add a lot of chemicals to cut down the acidity and make it more lubricating and to cut down on gelling. I plan on looking into the DIY biodiesel route. My Mercedes diesel runs too damn well to risk it on homemade fuels so I bought the Jetta to play with. I've got 2 jetta parts cars too so if you end up needing anything lemme know.

TTT Any VW guys out there looking for a project or non rusty shell?
-
To be THAT guy, that is identical to the factory ground strap on the 1996 Nissan Maxima I worked on.
-
I like it, I'd never buy one, but I like it.
-
Decent as in a lot, or as in enough to get by. I suppose if it starts aircraft it has to be somewhat substantial.

I bought a 1991 Jetta Diesel and got this car as part of the deal. I don't want it and honestly its too nice to just scrap, so I figured I'd try to sell it first. Here's what I know, previous owner bought it as a parts car, it had an immaculate interior. He removed the interior. I was told it didn't have a motor, but had a trans. When I picked the car I up I found that it has the motor, but no trans. The trans is what supports the motor, so the motor is kind of just hanging there. It is a single cam, which I believe makes it a 1.8 8v, tell me I'm wrong, I probably am. Here is what I'm thinking, $150 for the 1986 car the way it sits. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3009.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3013.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3014.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3015.jpg http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3016.jpg What I've got for the car that will be included. Factory headlights, the passenger taillight if you need it. I am supposed to go pick up the interior he pulled out of this car, so I should get the gauge cluster and seats. I've got bumpers if you need them. I got these in the deal, neuspeed springs on tokico blues for rears then some green spring on unmarked black struts. I'd sell them if you wanted them. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/300D/IMG_3010.jpg Kind of bouncing ideas around, sorry if this is hard to read. I'd rather sell it to someone who will make something out of it. ON THE OTHER hand, scrap is really high, so don't be so kind as to take it off my hands for $50. The car and two motors are worth $150 in scrap. It was not obviously rusty and I have a key and the title. This could be a good GRM car or probably 24 hours of LeMons or similar car. THE CAR IS IN CINCINNATI OHIO. NEEDS TO BE TOWED.

Only on the grounds of you'd be the only one with one. $5,500 for a 150hp swap that makes less torque than a rotary is going to be a tough sell for me.

Bike cop across from Batelle running radar, behind the morgue. Seeing them more often here. Peek a boo! http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s50/CincinnatiFiero/download-2.jpg

is that a cone filter on a PVC snorkel? Haha. Kudos to him for being creative, maybe this is how I'll sell my wrangler.
-
It's easy to spend money you don't have lol. That kind of shit doesn't sell on ebay. It sells in person, in private showings. Its a good looking GTP, but I don't want it.
-
I'll call all of them tomorrow, thanks guys.

Any recommendations up here? I got a quote from Diesel injection service down in cincy, a bit high.
-
I see there are a few shops around on the board, Anyone rebuild turbo chargers? I have a Garrett T3(?) off of my Mercedes diesel that may need rebuilt. I can supply a rebuild kit. Looking for a labor quote. I got an absurd quote down in cincy.

Talked to another friend, he says the ragtop is hard to find. 1967+ is the year to have as it is 12V electrics. He said he was looking at at rusty '68 and they guy wouldn't come below $3500. The bugs are somewhat valuable anymore. How much of a project are you looking for? The other friend I mentioned has about 15 of them sitting behind his shop, but they are pretty far gone and he thinks most of them are worth big bucks.
-
OP, you figure it out yet? I was reminded of this thread when my clutch master cylinder failed on high street last night. It was a pretty awesome drive home, so there is some gravity bleeding in my future.
-
My '96 F250 has play in it, my friends '86 F150 has it, all other ones I've driven had a little. I don't think I've ever driven a 10+ year old F-series that didn't have some play in it. But 6inches sounds excessive. I'd check the pitman and idler anyways, it's free to inspect and pack them full of grease if they are greaseable.

I've got a friend in Cincinnati who runs a shop that specializes in old VWs and Porsches. He could answer any questions you might have, if you want pm me and I can give him a call. I don't know much about the Corvair but the bugs are very well supported in terms of mods, and replacement parts. The floorpans love to rot out but a 1,000 factories in Brazil make $50 pans for them. The corvair is probably much more powerful than the bug.

How many BMW M, Audi S, Porsche, Mercedes AMG owners track their cars? Certainly some do, but it's hardly the majority. The Raptor is a race car for the street for truck guys. I have a wrangler, and the only thing they're good for is offroading and mines never been offroad.

Buy the intake from VAP, $350 is a great price all inclusive. Thats what I'd do. Get used pulleys, skip the TB, look for long tube headers.
