  1. Thanks for the pointers Andy. Next time I'm out i'll practice that. The 10a/b throttle makes sense, as well as keyhole (to me it felt like I was out far enough, but after the video I realize I am not)

Heel/Toe needs improvement a bit, it got better throughout the weekend but just needs more practice. Partial street braking heel/toe is a different animal than track, as you know.

As far as T7/8, in HPDE1 they told us not to take that line. I should of tried it when I went solo, but it just escaped my mind. I agree that is a much faster line, as when I was riding with Andrew we were flying into T8

  2. I felt bad too...we could quite literally see you guys from the trailer but the weather was soo crap on Saturday that we pretty much sat there the whole f-ing day trying to avoid the wet.

Sunday I was there for about 13 minutes before the janky RX-7 broke a brake rotor so we packed up and headed home.

Didn't even know you were there. Damn

  3. Looks good. I would have choke slammed a baby to get that much open track. Constant traffic in my group.

I meant to stop by and say hi but sat I just sat inside my friends trailer.

Yea, I was just lucky to get ahead of the whole crowd and it was the end of Sunday where alot of people were leaving early. Every other session was busy for me.

I was going to try and hunt you down (Andrew was suppose to help me) but we just forgot

  4. Nice, looks like a blast. What kind of speeds are we seeing there?

How much do track days like this cost?

    Shaun

I was trapping 125 down the back straight lifting off early and braking just before the 400 boards. There is probably room for 130 with dedicated race pads

Turn 1 and Turn 12 are the fastest turns, turn 1 was around 85 by the time I got out by the yellow, turn 12 (right after the second bridge) was around 75ish

For a weekend event w/NASA at mid-ohio it is $359, but you can volunteer and help out on weekends you aren't running and earn free track time that way as well.

This whole weekend was free for me by helping out.

  5. Finished up my second track day at Mid-Ohio! :happyanim:

Saturday was wet and painful to take the wet line. I only got 1 semi-dry run on Saturday.

Sunday was wonderful. Mid 70s, and track was starting to rubber in again.

Considering this was my first time on a completely dry track (last year I had wet and semi-dry sessions), it was actually fun to push the car. Car gripped amazing

I started in HPDE 1, moved up to HPDE 2. Instructor told me I could easily go into HPDE 3 if I was comfortable, but I may take a couple more track days before I make that move. We will see.

Here is my 4th and final session at Mid-Ohio. My first Solo run as well. I may post up my 3rd session where I was walking through HPDE 2 cars...we will see

The session was cut a bit short due to a race group that got all tangled up before HPDE 3/4 & 1/2 went out.

I also have a friend running w/a Spec E30 in Time Trials. I'll have to get that video up as well.

Comments and tips appreciated. I'm still new to the track game.

It looks like I'll need track pads now. I was tearing up the HP+s, but surprisingly they held up.

  6. Kale, did you use different bumpers on that track car? I spy a M front bumper....

Anyways, there really isn't too much to look out for. Most service related items are for the S54, and not the N52. There has been some minor reports of lifter tick, but that is usually analogous along the BMW line and nothing to be concerned about.

The Z4M has problems with engine mounts backing out, the dreaded vanos failures that everyone claims is such a problem...even though I've personally never heard of 1 true failure, rod bearing wear, and 1-2 grind off of high rpm shifts.

These are really all focused towards the S54 engine, and the platform itself is really solid.

Besides an open diff, and power, the Z4 non-m isn't much different. The suspension is a bit softer, but that can be resolved. You can actually do a manifold swap on the N52 with a 3-stage DISA and gain 30-40 whp, apparently.

The real only downfall for the non-m Z4 is that it has electric power steering, where as the M version has power steering.

If you don't want a Z4M, don't drive one for giggles. It is completely a different animal and you will find a way to budget one.

If you guys can pass this along it would be greatly appreciated.

  8. until they write you up for interfering with a law enforcement officer in the line of duty.

First off, find me the ORC that specifically states that

Secondly, if you properly use a LIDAR jammer then you'll be fine.

When you get hit, the LIDAR jammer will go off, you are suppose to slow down and shut the system OFF. Once this happens, the officer gets a speed reading, and you go about your way.

Alot of people decide to JTG (Jam to Gun) and when the officer gets jam codes on his gun...he gets pissed and sometimes decides to make your day.

As for RADAR Jammers, here is the literature:

US Federal Law prohibits the use of radar jammers.

Source: FCC Public Notice DA 96-2040

Radar Jammers are transmitters tuned to interfere with ("jam") a radar signal. The intentional use of jammers is considered "malicious interference" and is strictly prohibited by the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, as well as by FCC Rules. Anyone using a jammer risks such penalties as losing an FCC license, paying a fine, or criminal prosecution.

The Communications Act of 1934 states:

Sec. 333. Willful or malicious interference. No person shall willfully or maliciously interfere with or cause interference to any radio communications of any station licensed or authorized by or under this Act or operated by the United States Government.

    (June 19, 1934, ch. 652, title III, Sec. 333, as added Pub. L. 101-396, Sec. 9, Sept. 28, 1990, 104 Stat. 850.)

    Sec. 501. General penalty

Any person who willfully and knowingly does or causes or suffers to be done any act, matter, or thing, in this chapter prohibited or declared to be unlawful, or who willfully and knowingly omits or fails to do any act, matter, or thing in this chapter required to be done, or willfully and knowingly causes or suffers such omission or failure, shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished for such offense, for which no penalty (other than a forfeiture) is provided in this chapter, by a fine of not more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both; except that any person, having been once convicted of an offense punishable under this section, who is subsequently convicted of violating any provision of this chapter punishable under this section, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

    (June 19, 1934, ch. 652, title V, Sec. 501, 48 Stat. 1100; Mar. 23, 1954, ch. 104, 68 Stat. 30.)

Sec. 510. Forfeiture of communications devices

    (a) Violation with willful and knowing intent

Any electronic, electromagnetic, radio frequency, or similar device, or component thereof, used, sent, carried, manufactured, assembled, possessed, offered for sale, sold, or advertised with willful and knowing intent to violate section 301 or 302a of this title, or rules prescribed by the Commission under such sections, may be seized and forfeited to the United States.

  9. If I recall laser jamming is legal because it is light but radar is illegal. Violates some FCC law. Maybe I am wrong.

I use a V1 since all of our major highways have so many damn K band guns all over the overpasses and signs. I know where they all are so if I see more than 1 signal I know it could be a LEO. I use waze too I have a window phone mount and it works perfect for this. 8 out of 10 times waze has told me there was a LEO a mile before I saw him. My V1 has really only helped me out once in stark county when one was hiding in an S curve. I wasn't speeding but without the V1 I would've never saw him. All of his lights were off and he was hidden behind trees.

Radar jamming is illegal. I don't know exactly why.

LIDAR jamming is legal in our state, but not all are the same.

You should update the V1. They now have technology in the V1 to block out the traffic radar. I have the same technology on my 9500ix and it is peaceful.

  10. I run a 9500ix.

Longest recorded K band was 6 miles for me. I've gotten longer X band hits and similar Ka band performance.

GPS feature is nice, some people say you'll get noise and "canceled out of a real alert" when the GPS is blocking a signal, but I have yet to encounter that and in reality everything that is locked out for me is within city limits where it is hard to speed anyways.

I want to look into a ZR4 or LI system. I realize a LI will outperform a ZR4 but I can get a decent deal on a ZR4...so we will have to see.

I had escort live...it was too much or a hassle setting up the app and dealing with battery drain loss

  11. Anywhere else, that's a ~17k car. My buddy bought his 07 335i w/ 70k miles for $18,000 about a year ago.

That's because the turbos probably needed replaced...lol

As far as the E92 N52s, they are solid. Dad had a fuel pump go out early in ownership, he is ticking close to 65k IIRC and it has been flawless.

  12. If the front fenders were rolled, isn't it more likely it was just lowered, with some wheels?

135 wouldn't be my choice for a drag car...

It isn't uncommon for the 135 to see JB4 or similar chips putting down 400+. But I agree, especially with the E82 chassis anything more than 9" fronts you need to run extreme camber or roll fenders.

OP - Make friends with Service Advisor. When I was searching for my Z4M, we pulled the BMW records and he gave me the full report, which ended up having the PO's phone number. I gave them a call, and while I didn't speak to the husband, I spoke to the wife.

She talked to me for a bit, basically saying it was a weekend car, rarely driven, and never saw rain...very reassuring. In addition, the car only came with 1 key. She mentioned this and told me they were actively searching for it. About 2 months later, an overnight envelope came in the mail with the second key.

  13. It's not likely a radar/lidar thing. The front of a car has way more efficient reflection needed for laser than a simply license plate.

It does however come in handy for scanning plates via cameras on cars.

Front plate is the main thing that LIDAR guns target.

    Headlight is secondary. Finally windshield

Targeting a hood, or bumper WILL NOT get a reading. Sure, you might get them <500 ft but most cops are shooting LIDAR +2000 feet away.

They shoot center of mass, which is a license plate.

  14. I agree with the above points, however: We elect the house of representatives - not the police. So if we can get the public to support the issue it is irrelevant what the police want. I know this is a stretch, but this is how the "system" works. Please just take the time to write and email or make a phone call - I've provided all the links to make it easy for you!

Perhaps you should of looked at the petitions that were signed last time.

Highway patrol debates it is a matter of public safety. Regardless if the public wants them gone you're not going to win against an argument like that
