No it’s actually from Dave Ramsey. Maybe give it a listen. The point is to not over spend. Too many people spend a ton of money and then pay more in interest for 7+ years when they should have bought a $2k civic. My newest car is a 2011 that I paid cash for. I am sure I could finance a very nice car with crazy high payments but why? For more gadgets I have to have my kids explain to me? Nah I invest heavily now and don’t care what other folks think of my cars.

Don’t buy more car than you/they can afford. Try to keep the value of your car to half your yearly salary or less. So if he makes $50k a year don’t buy more than a $25k car.

I think hookers only take cash so you are good on that. I have read and listen to a lot of Dave Ramsey. I don’t agree with 100% of his teachings but most is sound common sense. Check a couple of his books out or watch some YouTube. He will give you some basic guidelines for how to make what you have go a long way and how to save. There is also good advice on what to look for when finding a financial advisor, saving up for a house etc. Again congrats on getting out of debt!

Right but the primary reason for a high credit score is so you are eligible for a loan or big purchases. I asked the OP if he was planning on making a large purchase in the near future. If no, then go slow and build it up over time. You can only have one or two revolving credit accounts and still have a good credit score. But when you make big changes it takes time for it to come back. For me personally, once I got out of debt I try not to use it more than I need to. It is much easier for us to budget and plan for big purchases. But we also have an emergency fund for those Oh Shit moments. Our A/C and Furnace took a dump last summer. It sucked but we got it replaced and worked to rebuild our savings.

I am going to get shit for this but why are you worried about your credit score right now? Are you planning on buying something big in the near future? If no, then don’t worry about it. Congrats on paying off your debt. It is an awesome feeling. Now you can pile up cash and invest. Without debt and more money you shouldn’t need to borrow so the credit score will not matter. I have one credit card and a debit card. I use the cc for online purchases and cash or the debit for everything else. My credit score is good but I am not planning on buying anything I need credit for so I am not worried about it going up or down. Good luck.

The CZ Scorpion is a lot of fun play with as an alternative to an AR9.

At this point I do not have any new purchases planned but since I like neat old stuff you never know. Since I am casting and reloading my main calibers, I just need some extra supplies next time I go to FFF. I do plan on taking some more classes this year. Unfortunately the carbine class I was signed up for last week got cancelled due to not enough interest.

Best / Worst Cars of the Last Decade? What does CR Think?
Dharris89 replied to ShowHBK's topic in Passing Lane
Sadly my newest car is a 2011 so I don’t have much to add. I hear technology is good. I’m just posting because I don’t post much. -
+1 for Joe’s class. He does a great job.

I still have the black Firebird but all the other cars I had when I joined are long gone.

What’s your winter plans and goals for next year
Dharris89 replied to The Other Nick's topic in Passing Lane
Put a new rear end in the red car and try to get some paint work done. The nose and rear bumpers have some spider cracks and I want it to look perfect. Also figure out what to do with the black car. Do I LS swap it, find someone to send it to or just let it go? If a friend finally sells me his 70 Formula 400, that will be another fun project. -

What would you DD if you were Oprah rich?
Dharris89 replied to Trouble Maker's topic in Passing Lane
Either a 69 Hurst Olds or 73 Brewster Green Trans Am. I’m also going on the assumption if I was Oprah rich I wouldn’t be driving long distances to work each day. -
I saw him on the way to work this morning. I work right near Henderson and Dierker.

I remember talking with Bill S a long time ago about it. The containers will also be used as apartments which can be modular. It’s certainly not for me but they need to do something with the land. Maybe they can put some below ground too and advertise living in bunkers. You know there’s a market for everything nowadays.

Very nice. Tim did my Firehawk a year ago this week and it’s still holding up great. Hope to see the Supra soon.
