  1. With Street Car Takeover coming to Columbus in June, looks like we need to get hustling to get her built broken in and shake downs complete! Although she certainly won't be roll racing these crazy 1200hp twin turbo CTS-V and Vettes that seem to frequent 1320 videos these days
  2. First trip out of the country to that area of the world or no? I'm in Ireland every year and while there's amazing stuff to do in capital cities the more "International" everywhere gets the less unique it becomes at times. Adventuring the countryside is a MUST to get a real flavor for where you are. A Ryan mentioned above it's quite a weird experience to walk into a pub or building pretty regularly that's older than our country. Bone up on proper tea etiquette! Part of the British Way is their tea/eating schedules which can be a little different from what most westerners are used to. Also, try not to over schedule yourselves which is something I was very guilty of my first time in Ireland I wanted to see EVERYTHING. You end up rushing from site to site, being a high strung stressed out American instead of slowing down and enjoying a taste of the Old World.
  3. Kerry I'm going to bring a step ladder and whack you in the side of the head when I see you next. It's a built Pontiac rear end from a wonderful gent who does this kind of thing for a living
  4. Suspension is being handled right now, rear end is on order and will be ready to go by months end. Transmission is already here and ready to go. "Spinnin ain't winnin" is something I'm very well aware of. Now I like making V8 noises and clouds of smoke as much as the next guy but that usually means I'm sitting still looking cool not screaming down the track.
  5. Kerry, I'm trying not to develop a twitch from reading that While yes, everyone who's ever read a car magazine or seen a Youtube video knows the LS is a great powerplant to make crazy power out of it's not even anywhere near the conversation for me. If your car is a Chevy, or came with an LS in it, good for you. Buy one of the 100 bolt on turbo kit options and boost it to the moon. You'll have impressively high dependability and gobs more power than most anyone should be allowed to have. Let me grab my soap box <begin rant> For me personally sticking an LS in anything to make it fast is boring and rather a bit of "cheating". I have nothing against the platform, and Chevy built an incredible new generation to succeed their SBC that ruled the hot rod world for so long. The process is easy to follow. Buy RWD low weight platform, stick LS in it, order wiring harness, complete process, make fast car. However, it feels exactly the same as seeing a SBC between the fenders of a Ford/Chrysler/Whatever. Yes it's cheap. Yes easy to work on. Yes it's good for cheap power. And yes I can drive down to Jegs pick one up and have a 500hp motor running in an afternoon. Honestly it feels the same way on the modern GTO/G8, although it wore a Pontiac arrow head there wasn't really any Pontiac there. While I appreciate the cars and have kicked around buying myself one over the years, essentially you just have a very fast camaro with a different body. </rant> What I had meant with my comment about "weighing engine options" is what direction I'll go with the Pontiac motor build. Turbo, Nitrous, Procharged, Carb or Fuel Injection, high compressions N/A ... at this point it's all on the table still. And to be completely up front with everyone I have gone back and forth numerous times about the direction I want to go. Each has its appeal, each has its detractors. A huge portion of why I started this thread was to help me answer this exact question.. What does it take, to play in the streets these days? Do I need 600whp? 800? 1000+? If 600 will do I can make a monster pump gas stoker motor with aluminum heads and get there without much issue on a good carb. 800? Well now we are talking that same built long block but with a 200 shot. OR, you can get that same 200 without having to refill a bottle by going turbo/procharged however that decision adds considerable cost as we are talking EFI, forged internals, low compression, etc etc.. 1000? Well now we are talking a partially filled block, and either a built motor with a whole lot of spray on race gas with EFI and timing control, or a big boost stroker application with all kinds of goodies on the inside to take the punishment and not saw itself in half. There's a HUGE difference in cost moving up from 600+ to 1000+ and while I DO enjoy spending money, if I can save myself $4000-$5000 in this process and still be competitive with what's out there playing now I'll gladly hold my cash for something else. Sorry for yet another long winded post but hey, I talk to much, y'all should know that by now
  6. Interesting, I wonder what it was about his transaction that they flagged and got so aggressive about? Believe his first buy was only something like $500 so nothing that should have really thrown up flags. On a more interesting note looks like the EU is going down the same path of the US lately, moving to require end user identification for transactions..
  7. Going to be very very interesting to see how they set up the "Street Meets" thing.... can see that becoming a very expensive night out for a cruise with how CPD has been for the last several years. Making solid progress on the '68 the last few days, with everything going reasonably smooth should be streetable by spring. As we see more and more cars converting from carb+spray to Fuel Injection+Forced Induction still weighing engine options before the final triggers are pulled. The rule of "How Fast do you want to spend" is most certainly realistic!
  8. As of Tuesday at least in this one specific instance they weren't allowing transaction, at least through Coinbase. He has moved transactions to an alternate state side bank to give it another go on the next "dip" In other news for those playing with 5 digit investments in the BC market, are we thinking it's going to taxed on more of a ForEx rate or straight capitol gains? So incredibly well timed that this ruling went through RIGHT after so many people got in and out of coins following the rally!
  9. As someone who actually owned a business doing exactly what you are talking about there are a couple things I would recommend. 1) Learn to speak Human, not just Tech. Being able to "dumb down" your speak when discussing technical issues is HUGE, when you are dealing with a customer or potential customer if you are talking in lingo that goes beyond their knowledge they most of time will zone out. Once they've lost focus and understanding, you are in dangerous territory. 2) Be careful what businesses and industries you get involved in. There are a lot of industries that require special security in place, AKA Medical with HIPAA. The potential is certainly there but you need to make sure you are crossing every T or you are in for a shitstorm when/if things go wrong. 3) Face to Face visits are where you'll find your customers. Phone calls are a percentage game where if you hit a 5% rate of return you are doing well. The majority of the time you won't speak to the owner directly when you call in, and getting past the front desk as just another "telemarketer" is a crap shoot. Face to Face, you can sell yourself and the office staff is much more likely to give you access to explain what you can do. 4) Have a sizable chunk of liquid cash in the business. Buying parts-pieces-cabling-tools can get expensive QUICK! Depending on how you are doing your billing some/most of that will come out of your pocket until the invoice is cleared with the customer. Especially with new clients. If you are running on a shoestring budget you can quickly tap out a reserve of cash and end up having to dip into Credit Cards. CC debt immediately eats into your profitability, unless you absolutely stay on top of billing/invoicing/statements. 5) Professional Attitude / Appearance! Don't show up with jeans stained shoes a hoodie and a 6 month beard. While dressing that way in tech community is pretty normal even upping your "nerd" cred, in the broader business world dress to impress still stands. I'm not saying dress in a 3 piece suit and $400 shoes but clean and professional goes a long way. This also goes to your business card, make sure it's clean professional and informative. Many many lessons I learned going down this path. Best of luck to you, there's good money in the business if you can hack it and protect what you build!
  10. Well, on this topic a little interesting bit of news. Looks like 1320 Video and Street Car Takeover are coming to Columbus in June? So...here we go! https://imgur.com/a/3KB2z
  11. Good to know, I've never personally banked with Huntington so glad to hear there are some options. He called Chase to try to authorize the transaction and the person he spoke with in the fraud department told him not only will they not allow the transaction but if he continued to his account would be closed. Which is quite an interesting position for a bank who is investing in Bitcoin themselves.
  12. Almost every financial adviser is going to be against this type of thing for a whole slew of reasons. It's unregulated, not dependent on a tangible resource, extremely volatile to the point of 30%+ swings per day, also this is designed to get people AWAY from the fees/charges of the established monetary system. One reason many of the big banks will deny charges/transfers for buying coins. On that note, a friend of mine trying to get into the market yesterday banks with Chase. He used a Chase debit card to try and make a $500 purchase from Coinbase once their system came back online. Chase flagged the purchase of fraudulent and refused to approve the transaction. He linked his checking account to the account and tried to make a purchase but it seems to be denied as well. Who do the rest of you bank with thats a States side bank that is friendly to the Bitcoin purchasing process. He's nervous about banking Offshore at this point
  13. Exactly, you also don't have nearly the "lightning quick" trades you do when doing it directly through the exchange. Many of those brokerage accounts have a lag that can be anything from an hour to E.O.B.D. which in the world of Bitcoins can be yuge Part of the appeal of this type of thing is you are going outside the standard banking structure and have little in the way of tax application until you choose to make things available in liquid cash.
  14. What are the tax implications of doing it through a brokerage? Part of the appeal of BitCoin or any other online currency is it's essentially a "hidden income" until such time as it's converted into US currency and moved "on shore"
  15. Exactly what I'm trying to explain to the people around me, RARELY does it make sense to buy when the bull is still charging unless you are banking on this thing going from $11,000 to $20,000 in the reasonably near future. Can never make decisions for others but right now for those who are holding is... cash out now take your greater than 75% gain in a month... or keep on riding until there's a sign the Bull is running out of steam.
  16. Their servers are being overwhelmed, traffic is through the roof with east coasters making accounts and joining in. Dashboard is barely loading, growing pains!
  17. Most terrifying part about riding a runaway freight train is when to get off... many thought $10k, others say $30k? Who's jumped and taken their incredible earnings with them so far? ... still riding...
  18. Day trading in currency is a fantastic way to make your money make money but I promise you there's almost nothing more stressful. With markets open and moving all day every day around the world you can go to sleep wake up and have lost huge sums. Your life style changes, your timing changes, your stress levels change, you can never disconnect for fear of missing a positive or negative movement across the world that you are buying/selling/parking in. Know more than a few people who have done very well at it but most get out and buy a few toys and "settle down" before their brain melts out an ear hole. Bitcoin buying while stressful due to no tangible piece to touch or obvious value is considerably easier to deal with. And with the freight train of a run its on lately you can certainly be forgiven wanting to jump in now. Keep in mind though only risk "play money" unless you are willing to start your personal financial empire over again if things go sideways
  19. Wait wait wait.. if the earth is flat where to the lizard people live? Ohhh!! On the other side of the disc! They just come through tunnels from one side to the other! Brilliant!
  20. The v8 with straight pipes is one of the most surprisingly sexy sounds a man can hear. Keep in mind, the Volvo V8 was/is the engine of choice for the Noble cars. The issue on the V8 would be fender to fender fitment though, not sure there's enough room to make it happen. However, a turbo I5... now THAT would fit Edit: The stupid things we think of
  21. Of all the ways to die, a small robot the size of my hand smashing into my forehead with a shaped charge sure wasn't on that list. Until yesterday. Gee THANKS scientists!
  22. Not sure why I never realized those got essentially the same seat treatment as the Syclones, does it have the hand inflatable side bolsters? Very cool rare truck, look forward to essentially no one you meet having any idea what it is! Especially after you v8 swap it. Digging all the ideas, will certainly be following this.
  23. Lol never seen that before, but perfect usage of a video sir! Unfortunately in the world of FWD volvo swaps you don't really have many exciting options. Fortunately the Swedes stuck to RWD on their sedan platforms for a long period of their history so there's lots of options for those of us going that route. The 122s runs, but the twin carb'ed B18 that it came with and gearing isn't exactly something that's super happy about 70mph cruising. Though not quite a "big" surge in popularity there are more than a few out there running very interesting engine/suspension setups. None quite so nuts as nearly 40 liters of diesel fury, but interesting.
  24. Now I'll be the first to admit, I should have gotten to my 122S project car this year but I've had a lot on my plate. The idea of swapping out the Volve B18 to something slightly more meaty or going resto mod on it made me pause just as things started to get interesting. But! This, is certainly not something I had ever imagined doing! http://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/16234/this-bizarre-volvo-pv544-has-a-38-8-liter-diesel-v-12
