  1. A couple things to note here. What sort of "Fleet Vehicle" was this before your friend purchased it? Many vehicles that have seen fleet use have a LOT more engine hours on them than what their actual mileage displays so keep that in mind. On the flip side you also can run into fleet cars that were incredibly well maintained because they are done on a tax payers dollar and keeping things tip top is in their best interest. Now.. moving on to the noise. Aside from actually getting to the car and/or seeing a video of it running it would be hard to give you an exact idea of what is wrong. If it's a water pump that more often than not will have more of an outside the motor source of noise versus internal. However if it's been run low on oil and there's a significant drop in cylinder compression in #3 you could very well be talking internal engine damage. From a shop perspective unless its a desirable or expensive engine the usual best route is an entire engine swap out. Typical book time on a 2011 Impala is somewhere between 15-17 hour depending on what motor is in it. To pull and rebuild it you are going to be somewhere in the 24-27 hour range book time, plus parts. If you need head work, you have additional machining costs. You can rapidly see yourself in the $1000+ in parts and machine work depending on what's discovered on the inside. Depending what they quote you in the long run you often times are MUCH better off just getting a rebuilt warrantied long block from a provider like LKQ and having the swap done. Either way you will easily be north of $3500 for the repair. Just some friendly local shop knowledge
  2. Three cheers for THIS comment! Either build an old school 383 stroker and toss a FI Tech Fuel Injection system on it or go LS, not worth the time money and energy for what you'll get out of the LT.
  3. Nothing beats a good Race to the Bottom!
  4. Yessir we do, what are you looking for?
  5. One of the great benefits of the modern internet age is people can get their message out even if they aren't a part of the "Main Stream". Unfortunately that's a double edged sword as there's little to no vetting on many of these stories coming out so we have to do the fact checking ourselves or at least see if it passes a smell test. One of the sites Kerry brought up earlier is Thedrive, it's sub channel TheWarZone has some of the best military and defense writers around, not to mention the comments sections have some very VERY interesting submitters.
  6. I read that same article Kerry, their author Tyler Rogoway is one of my favorite to read on all things military/defense. The reason I linked the one I did was to make it more of a "real established news outlet". Truth be told, almost the only reason I ever bother checking Thedrive is for The War Zone articles. The Russian flight over DC was pre-planned and authorized, also highly visible as it was taking place during the day and at low altitude. That's just more of our standard saber rattling political process than anything else. What happened on the West Coast is something altogether different. Russians have teased our air space many times before but never, at least to my knowledge, tried to overfly a large chunk of the West Coast land mass during a busy transportation day.. in the middle of the day. Also you have this craft flying in what is known commercial aviation space, something a typical spy plane wouldn't be doing. If you are thinking "stealth russian craft", how did it get so far into our airspace without us spotting it and also spotting the likely refueling craft it would need to make this sortie? You have multiple in area aircraft unable to report a positive visual on the craft. Perhaps most telling is the military response to this even scrambling F-15s, confirmed by sources at NORAD and from the Airbase in Oregon where they were stationed. Those experienced military aviators with some of the best warfighting equipment we posses as a country were unable to find the craft. Also we have 0 reports of craft landing at local air fields that would explain the flight. Not saying it's Aliens from Venus, just saying it's an interesting exercise in thought to imagine possible beings and technology we don't currently understand being here on this little blue marble we call home.
  7. Taking a break from all the mud slinging in the Political thread reading... How 'bout 'dem Aliens huh? http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a13788361/what-the-hell-was-that-mystery-aircraft-flying-over-oregon/ Read this story back in the fall before a lot of the current release came out, really interesting giving the timing and location of said "Craft"
  8. Only thing I can constructively add to this "conversation" is... This just in, DOW above 25,000 for the first time... White people continue to want to make more money!
  9. And STILL only average 24mpg? My mildly modified '99 GT Vert 5 speed with 3.73 would get 20-21mpg from Columbus to Knoxville trip after trip (most often with the top down)
  10. *comes running from the Aliens thread with his tinfoil hat*
  11. So I know you aren't too big on the whole "Safety" thing with your custom built rocket ships but... what do they require to run at a half mile where you are likely to trap 180+?
  12. Looking like Coinbase has been mildly freaking out about the Sends lately people buying through them then transferring to sites like Binance I'm sure. If/When LC jumps back into the $350 range I can only imagine the flood of sell orders as people who bought in during the run jump out with this couple week "trough"
  13. +1 For Derek and Best One, we just started working with them on a professional level and have had excellent service/support. On a side note, if you need any work done on your 6oh lemme know, we happen to know a thing or two about those trucks
  14. Generally I'm a huge fan of this investment strategy however, $10 per ticket x 40 tickets is $400... I'd be very very leery of the kind of Hooker you could pick up and still have money left for more than a 'lil bump Just running the numbers
  15. Wait wait, why can't I be a nutjob? I thought this was CR where all opinions/thoughts/ramblings were equal?
  16. What kind of fun are you looking to have in it? To me you have some pretty vastly different cars there. Having built/rebuilt/fixed tons of Subarus of that era there are a few PITA things with them as previously stated. With a blown bottom end, that's personally the only way I would buy a Subaru for fun.. blown up. No matter who says they've done what and upgraded this or that you never know the health of those things. Nothing sucks more than buying something that seems fine for the first 100 miles you own in then scatters and demands a $3000+ rebuild. Personally I think the K20 turbo MR2 would be more fun per dollar spent. It's different, quirky, reliable, and kinda cool. The Subaru will get you into a WHOLE other world of car culture, not that it's a bad thing!
  17. That's why I'm trying to pointedly ask, which if these could it be? Atmospheric distortion? Hmmm nope it moves freely and is targetable by radar. Weather phenomenon? Again, object is able to be targeted by aircraft gunnery sites, clouds will not draw a site like that nor does it have any link to surrounding weather. Regular aircraft? Nothing in the known inventory of the US or our rival military powers has the abilities this craft displayed. The acceleration and turning at speed are far beyond anything our F/A 18s are capable of, so at BEST this is a "black back" flying object, hence it gets the UFO tag. However, without a noticeable propulsion system and the lack of any wings to provide positive lift it defies the laws of physics which human kind exists on. You can also clearly hear from experienced USAF fighter pilots the short clip on their expressions keeping in mind that all of the more technical and classified information is NOT included in the clip released by the DoD. I get the point of keeping our minds open, and I'm not asking someone to lock themselves into a certain view point. What I AM asking is break it down based on belief, scientific knowledge, and the evidence that is mounting. What CAN it be, because quite clearly this isn't some random cloud with mass that is traveling against the wind pattern and substantive enough for targeting computers to look for it. So, thoughts?
  18. Specifically speaking about the footage I linked to at the beginning of this thread which do you think applies?
  19. I feel like this is more of thinking with your head than reacting with your heart kind of response. Maybe you have more faith in the majority of mankind than I do. I've met far too many people outside our bubble of mildly+ educated white folk that really give me pause for concern. As the saying goes, "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow." - Agent K Now on to another part of this subject, the term UFO. So as a UFO that does NOT necessarily mean it's Aliens from another star system, what what other explanations make sense? Some sort of highly advanced race from our deep oceans? Hollow earth species? Incredibly advanced human civilization with technology we don't even understand? Some rich kid with a highly modified radio controlled plane?
  20. Happy Solstice! Grab a friend, grab a drink, beat a drum and welcome the never ending rebirth of our natural world!
  21. This is CR, where we bench race and brag on hypotheticals! So say they DID bring with them irrefutable proof, what then?
  22. As a non Judeo-Christian I have to say Pope JP II did a lot of great things moving the faith forward and accepting the findings of science. Realistically speaking most of the major western religions (that are monotheistic) would have absolutely no understanding of aliens and technology so there needs to kind of be a "Living Word" belief. Hell, we prove that constantly even just with our Constitution and that's just a couple hundred years old. Unfortunately what we take as normal and understandable here in our safe comfortable existence in these wonderful United States of America are not the norm around the world. People rarely have the levels of education we do and even WE have tons of head in the sand people. Around the world the vast majority of people learn from their elders and religious leaders, not formal education and multi-perspective debate. As someone who straddles both sides of this subject Clay, I pose a question to you. What would be the reaction if tomorrow a ship touched down anywhere in the western world and we meet a humanoid superior intelligence with the ability to communicate. Through conversation (hopefully) we learn their race had visited us deep in our past and been responsible for the genesis of modern man. How would that be handled in the Christian community? Now lets generally accept the Christian faiths have been slightly more accepting and less violent than several other major religions... how are these same revelations received by other major monotheistic faiths?
