  1. So I've got a question, and I mean this in all seriousness. What does it take to play on the streets these days? Back when CR was first rocking and rolling a 400whp car was haulin' and could put away pretty much anything from a roll or a stoplight ... now'a'days not so much. We see, work on, build all sorts of rides but how many of them really go out and do what we all USED to do? Do people really smash on these 1,000+ HP cars on the street or are they mostly just trophy cars and bragging rights? Or ways to hide your ill-gotten lootz? Full disclosure I have a old school project I'm building this winter with the intent to make an old school muscle car with some newschool pieces for power adders/control and it gets me thinking, will there be people to play with? There are a Facebook group or two designed for "meets" but how/where do the big dogs communicate and play?
  2. Last time I was there the people greeted me at the door with a handshake and a caramel macchiato excitedly ready to assist me. A1 service! Uhh, it's a junk yard... run by rednecks... for rednecks. And cheap shady "mechanics" Not entirely sure what you are looking for in "quality" there Sir Put on an old pair of American Eagle jeans, pick up a pair of Wolverine work boots at DSW, an old Gap flannel and go slum it with the plebes!
  3. Squeeze some fun/flirting/enjoyment in throughout the day, EVERY day even if it's just a few minutes here and there. Break up the every day bullshit with something that puts a smile on your face and the needing to "unwind" pretty much goes out the window if you aren't "wound" in the first place.
  4. Problem being with those 6 figure super cars on the used market, they still want supercar maintenance schedules. It's like the 100,000 classic car. Damn, that's pretty but no thanks.
  5. Even though its only an hour and a half away, I rarely make it back to my "hometown" more than once or twice a year. Not for a lack of chances to do so, but it doesn't feel like "home" anymore. There's also a creepy feeling of square peg/round hole where you just don't fit in, even just sitting at Applebees/BW3s having a drink.
  6. That was my next suggestion pretty sure they allow 3rd party tuning
  7. Looks like another healthy CR discussion has begun! Unfortunately around a terrible topic that is too close to many of our hearts. A lot of my childhood was spent within a couple thousand feet of where both of these two Wayne Co. issues came up, and I can tell you the world of 25 years ago and now... such a twisted path to get here from there. A little back story on the area. Wooster was the home of Rubbermaid, Orrvile just 10 miles down the road was the home of Volvo truck. Lots of good paying blue/white collar jobs for the local rural population which also supported 2nd and 3rd tier businesses catering to that work. Fast forward through the 90s, Volvo relocated to Virginia taking thousands of jobs away from the industrial town with nothing able to step in and take over the space. Rubbermaid is purchased by Newell who promptly downsizes and then closes their Wooster facility. Thousands more blue/white collar jobs disappear. The economy begins to spiral as local opportunities begin to disappear, those 2nd and 3rd tier businesses begin to close. Walmart builds a huge new store on the north end of the town where development is growing, Lowes goes in across the street. 2 local grocery stores that had been anchors for their communities and shopping centers close, jobs are lost. Areas lose easy access to shopping/food, spiral quickens. Independent hardware/lumber shops all go out of business except one downtown... another shopping center falls victim as their anchors are gone and foot traffic dies down... the current increases. Begin the Pain Killer problem. Pain becomes something we throw pills at, becomes a focus of the medical/pharma industries. Money is made as 'scripts fly made cheap by insurances and profitable by the sheer volume. Small towns begin to see kids that who occasionally would sneak a beer or have some drinks after the Friday night football game, maybe hit a joint in super sneaky fashion with a group of friends in a garage... start stealing pills from their parents medicine cabinet knowing they can skim 2...4....6 and they won't get caught because who's paying attention everyones working longer hours with less family time and more and more "broken homes".. Fast forward 20 years. We have an entire generation who had this around them their entire lives, all while the country is at war. Those who serve come back from their experiences with all sorts of additional tragedy on their souls and easy access to substances that will help lock away that pain. The economic opportunities for those who had a clear path in the industry/manufacturing which has been a staple of solid jobs since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution are gone or rapidly disappearing. Wages stagnate while cost of living increase... the whirlpool turns faster. Take away the easy access to the pills which provided the barrier to the physical/emotional pain many have relied on for decades. Take people off their medication for "fear of addiction" or other reasons... those people look for an outlet... illicit drug gangs/cartels/providers realize the money to be made is in the rural communities where policing is at a minimum due to budget issues from a shrinking tax base... the waters are becoming a raging whirling torrent...
  8. Pretty sure Crucial rents out Dyno time by the hour?
  9. The 5 speeds have a bad reputation of having "glass cases" but as you say that's typically on modified ones. Most people turning out less than 280-300 don't really run into issues.
  10. Legacy GT is a pretty nice car, the wagons are spiffy and extremely functional. As others have noted you should be able to tell a lot on these cars just from a visual inspection. Unfortunately the timing you really can't but other gaskets should point towards work that had been done recently.
  11. What's the car? On most of those boxer engines you can pretty easily actually SEE the headgasket just popping the hood. However aside from a visual inspection there's really no way to tell without taking it apart, in which case you have to put a new one on anyways Head gaskets / Timing Belt & Waterpump are your most common issues and HAVE to be addressed every 100k or you are just begging for a motor to get wiped out. Speaking from experience of many dead Subaru
  12. Got a text from my mother this morning, apparently it's a busy day up there in farming country! The Smithville address that was busted is down the street and around the corner from my mothers. Surrounded by nothing but corn fields and chicken coops, the Wooster address on Cher Ct is ON the same small lane my aunt lives on. Guess you never know what your neighbors are doing even in the Idyllic Countryside. http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/20171109/mexican-cartel-related-drug-dealers-arrested-in-wayne-countys-biggest-bust
  13. Way to make your dreams come true sir, most people never have the guts to make the first step. Sounds like some awesome stuff ahead for you next year, will be one of many here on CR cheering you on. P.S. If you need a camera bitch/assistant on the Street Outlaws actual street stuff let me know
  14. It almost looks like he's cruising it until he gets into 6th then pushes for it. What and odd piece of machinery to hear someone shift for high gear above 200mph
  15. Didn't even make it off the front page of The Parking Lot and already we get to have this kind of conversation again
  16. Supposedly there's a bit of buzz surrounding Amazon gearing up to accept BitCoin payments? All of this so far is fringe transactions and investment by people who are "In the Know" but if a major retailer jumps into this game...
  17. IF you are going down the sidework path, go this route. People who are spending discretionary money on toy projects. You aren't typically going to be under the time crunch of fixing moms minivan transmission so she can get to work, and those people are typically not just going to bring you boredom. Enjoying what you are doing is extremely important. Do you have any sort of clause in your employment that says you can't do something like this or work elsewhere? Possibly do some mercenary work for a local shop on the side/weekends?
  18. That sir, is excellent use of a GIF
  19. Or sex slaves. Or weapons. All the best things in International Business
  20. Uh.. you think GMG buys those engines they put in on TV? Guess we'll see, personally I don't see near the "building" these days as there was in the 80s and 90s, just not enough people left in the pool wanting to drop $40k+ to build a car when there are already thousands of quality machines available on the market as is.
  21. Not to hijack this thread.. but... wut? How in the shit do you total something like this in freeway driving from Columbus to NY?
  22. Who in the hell actually buys such things? Or is it more of a point that says "Hey look you can put our powerplant in anything!"
  23. That's a pretty wise investment strategy, and great feedback. Personally I look at it similarly to going to the blackjack tables at the casino. Only take in what you can stand to lose, play with your initial buy in then move that into a pile of "do not touch" play on the houses money from there on in. Worst case, you walk away with what you put in plus experience/knowledge(hopefully)
  24. Here here for Derek on that side of town
  25. Are you just looking for a "get it to stock specs" kind of alignment or something custom/aggressive/racey?
