  1. Body kit and plasti-dip? I'm actually debating this exact same thing on my Pontiac, a couple decent sized chips down to primer that I would love to get taken care of but am terrified of ruining something. Add in the fact I have a tiny amount of the paint color left and.. yea it's scary. And repainting a whole car definitely ain't cheap if done right!
  2. Thanks for all the quick feedback, glad to see so many responses so quickly! A few quick responses. Are we after the customer that's absolutely after the lowest cheapest price? Not in the least bit. While we don't mind taking care of customers and being fair we aren't in the business of fighting to the bottom and cutting our own throats. The option to ship directly to the shop is nice, also all pricing is stated and agreed upon on the site so that should keep things pretty much on the up and up. You order, get your pricing sheet that comes with it and whenever your appointment to get taken care of you should be in and out. Of course there are always the worn components/alignments/etc that will come up at any decent shop when we have the tires off if there's something to talk about. That should be an advisory role not a hold you over a barrel and make you buy something kind of situation. Pricing... selling tires is a terrible business. Profit margins are so tight I have no idea how tire shops stay in business without gouging for "extras" but TR seems to always beat most retail shops unless you have a pretty serious hookup. The vast majority of CR folk I imagine have some sort of go-to person for tire discounts so that isn't exactly comparing apples to apples. But it's good to know!
  3. After a massive headache of rebuilding one of these things for a customer I had the "pleasure" of driving it in late July early August to mile it for break in and trouble shooting.. on paved civilian roads.. at "normal" cruising speeds...UGH yea thanks I'll pass on doing THAT ever again. Even if you go into it planning on swapping out to a more GM setup.. the time money and anger is... UGH
  4. Would you like the long or short story of how much these things suck to own/work on in the civilian world? We did one a customer had just purchased back last summer... ugh
  5. So your "local authorized installer" is a shop that's listed through the TireRack site or someone you have done business with previously? For your racecar/autox folks how do you handle your wheel and tire purchases and installations?
  6. Ok this brings up a point I wanted to talk about. Let's say you don't have a homie hookup, what do you find is your most important search criteria? Price? Distance from you? Customer reviews? Photos of shop/equipment?
  7. That's why we are doing "market research" with you fine people of CR Our customer base ranges from the mom in a minivan to the delivery driver in an F650 diesel to lowered tuner rides and muscle cars, you never know what you're going to see in here on a daily basis. While tires aren't a huge portion of our business, knowing whether or not something will be a valuable revenue stream in the future is key to growth. So here we are Thanks for the input so far gents!
  8. Responses are certainly going where I expected them to, no one uses the "Installer Network" just orders the tires and takes them to whatever shop/friend they are used to working with. Now do we take that with a grain of salt because this is CR and we are all "enthusiasts"..
  9. So I'm sure there are more than a few of us who have purchased tires or wheel/tire combos from TireRack my question is what do you do once you receive them? Do you have them shipped to your home or a shop? Do you find yourself saving a considerable sum of money going through TR + shipping versus buying from a local? Full disclosure, we are recently in the TireRack wholesale/installer program just curious how much their referral for install will be a revenue source for us. Personally whenever I have bought tires I've done so at a shop who provided the tires and all services, or been at a shop that I can just take care of the mounting/balance/etc myself.
  10. Jesse at Performance Auto Spa might be someone good to talk with if you are still searching, has done some really awesome stuff with wraps
  11. Those Carlyle boys are definitely moving a LOT of product lately!
  12. Actually hoping to run the new Forester in some AutoX this year as well as the '65 C10. This year will be LOTS more race car stuff!
  13. Couldn't have said it better myself Geeto is completely right. Likely just due to gearing, though you DO have some margin for error on these things, A=A isn't always the case. Factor in mileage, fluids, etc can give a bump up or down here or there as well.
  14. I have heard also that the spring opening for 42 is a bit optimistic? Supposedly a WHOLE lot of work still to be done..? *crosses fingers*
  15. 100 mile lightweight? Yea.. that'll go from one euro collector to another. No way anyone actually buys that to drive it.
  16. Crucial does a lot of them for more active car clubs, like Central Ohio Subaru and Ohio G/Z/GT-R Club, I'm sure if we asked nicely we would be able to set one up as well. Typically as long as its an open day and we have 10-15 registrations don't think this would be an issue at all. I'm sure Dyno Brian would be a similar setup
  17. Yet still has welds that look better than 90% of "mechanics" and automotive quick stop shops. Keep up the awesome artwork!
  18. IPS was one of the few who actually "worked" on them, that's part of what them off the ground in the first place. However in their later years they were more hoarding than working and focused on their growing LS business. There IS a forum for them, however even there "part outs" are rare and typically mean I'm buying yet another car to cannibalize
  19. Unfortunately with the RT / TTs there are a lot of specific parts to them that ONLY came on this gen and package. So of the 4k that were built over the 3 year span, looking for one that's got what I need after 25 years is a little... tricky
  20. No title=Racecar I know myself, the modification disease with me is STRONG and with yet another turbo charged power plant sitting around...it's only a matter of time... I've spent a pauper princes savings on keeping this thing in the shape it is with all things working. Even replaced the rear steering rack and lines when they were leaking despite the fact that EVERYONE deletes it.
  21. I unfortunately agree with you, this car has been my radar since it was initially posted. Though I realllly don't want to add yet another car title to my pile it's certainly an option. Part of what I enjoy most about the car I own is literally every option works, however maintaining some of those will get very very complicated in the near future I'm sure. So yes, this is an option but I would prefer to have some other options that won't tempt me to build ANOTHER car I don't need!
  22. The $795 one is beat to HELL if you cycle through the pictures will need a ton of work to be useful. The $595 one is for an ES not an RT/TT
  23. As many of you may know by now, my Stealth was hit while sitting outside my house a few weeks back. I can fix all the mechanical stuff however the body is becoming an issue. Anyone have a go-to place for hard to find panels? With the low production numbers and model specific moldings a rear 1st gen RT/TT bumper is hard to find! There's one that's been on eBay for a while but the mounting holes are pretty screwed, hard to stomach buying a pre broken body panel. 'hep me CR, 'hep me!
  24. Just like any kind of motor racing, the expenses are always more than expected. A "Rally car in a box" kit sounds excellent, especially if it covers all the necessary inspection/certification points. Last thing I would want is getting physically hurt from something being not QUITE right. Where's the best place to look for ready to run type cars? Not a genre I've ever shopped for
  25. I know I'm going to regret asking this but...for those who have done Rally before what kind of cost incursion are you looking at? Have an extra Subaru or two sitting around the shop ...
