  1. Even with the under bumper you can usually access those from the back of most SUVs can't you? I've pulled it from my 4Runner and a friends Armada without having to lift the truck up.. From the way it sounds in the article the thing..landed on his HEAD?
  2. Am I the only one who felt a shiver reading this story? All the times we've ended up doing a tire change or a repair on a slightly sketchy jack setup? And I love that they discovered a guy with a squished head that no doubt made quite a mess but kept up with business as usual... don't think that had anything to do with it being the last sales weekend of the month do we?
  3. There's been some very interesting and rousing conversation today about the soul purpose of having a CIA "annex" in Libya was in order to facilitate a gun running program.. so umm.. there's that?
  4. Welcome aboard, always nice to see someone of the younger generations looking to get some dirt and grease under their nails!
  5. Oh I dunno about that, you can pretty well count on the ringland blowing and/or total engine destruction when the timing belt isn't taken care of And don't you bring up the bulletproof days of Honda motors into this conversation, that's just simply not fair! As for the 4G63s I believe I've heard a number of horror stories about crank walks and other such constant issues..
  6. You're certainly on the darker side of sketchy with where that is. Some people will patch it, if you were an 1/8th of an inch further inside in the valley absolutely. I can tell you from a shops perspective, we wouldn't do it.
  7. Aside from the All Mighty LS what other platform do you see people squeezing out double the stock HP with no issues on internals? Most (of course not all) Subarus that have either ringland or detonation issue are due to modifications that people skimp on the support (read : tuning) I have no less than 5 EJ motors sitting here right now, 3 of them destroyed. 1 was due to a timing belt that was 30,000 miles past due.. something Subaru owners are notorious about. And 2 are from over boost/lean out/detonation issues. There certainly are known issues with the EJ series, and it is odd that a platform they have had around for SO long in one form or another didn't get further tweaked but if done right and MAINTAINED they aren't bad. At least, not any more so than other small displacement big power platforms.
  8. There are definitely some issues with them so far, but it's a new platform with bugs to be worked out. The EJ series has been around essentially since the beginning of the millennium so they've had plenty of time to work out most of ITS weaknesses.
  9. Realistically you are probably looking in the 80-100 range to have them dismounted disassembled, reassembled, mounted and road force balanced.
  10. We have an extremely good wrap, stickers, stuff guy out here. Not the cheapest but really really good at what he does.
  11. BTW MAG is just down the street from our shop if you want anything looked at if you are seriously considering.
  12. What you run into is people snatching up these cars at a "bargain" but completely unaware of or unwilling to maintain them. And often if you can buy it cheap that means the "other guy" wasn't into maintaining the toy either so how far down the road does the can get kicked before .... $$$s
  13. I hear Lucore does quite a lot of work in the Powerstroke world Edit: If you are looking to do something like the Sinister EGR bypass kit we don't do that kind of thing though.
  14. There's one of these in Powell that comes out for the shows occasionally, it's in red and I believe built on the ZR1.. one of those Rich Boy toys but DAMN does it look good.
  15. Looks like an awesome time indeed, well done you 3! That's one hell of a trip across this great country, if you have only flown across it you would never know how much you are missing!
  16. Mmmmm +1 for Eddie's, incredible food and not a stiff upper lip kind of attitude. Mitchell's not bad, but for an atmosphere it's trying too hard. Eddie's always is welcoming and has given me excellent service rolling in semi casual that their neighbors would have scoffed at. Yay for thread hi-jacking about steak!
  17. When you look at the fees you go through for filing paperwork, requesting records, sending certified mail back and forth, using up otherwise valuable work hours, court costs, etc, then the actual titling costs it's often barely worth the hassle (or not even close). If the car is something broke and busted, the costs are considerably higher than what you'll reclaim from taking ownership of the vehicle. Unfortunately you also can't just toss the thing on a trailer and get it scrapped, unless you have a title for it. So, your options are painful any way you look. But, jump through the hoops and do it right or don't bother.
  18. Well here we go with the processing documents and requesting information from the state, we'll see how THIS goes. I'm sure this won't be a quick or simple process. Attempting to get the info for the holder of the estate, so have a drink sit back and relax and we'll keep the updates/thoughts coming. On another note, does anyone happen to have a Carfax account that can run a VIN for me real quick to see if there's any useful information there? If so please PM me. Figure might as well use every tool at my disposal.
  19. You actually CAN get a temp tag with a bill of sale while waiting for the title to be transferred or come from the bank. That's part of what the temp tag is for to give some wiggle room to handle all those possible complications. We HAVE performed work on it, though nothing massively extensive, once they got to that point they balked on the repair and that's where we find ourselves now. As for towing, you are correct, that's basically just unloading the headache to someone else and that's not our style. The route it looks like this should go is attempt contact with the deceased's family to see if they can get a duplicate title issued then sign that over. Now to try and find out who THEY are. Ohio BMV forms here we go!
  20. Unfortunately this thing isn't anything exotic or exciting, we just make sure we dot all our i's and cross all our t's when it comes to stuff like this. It's easy to LOSE your reputation as a shop, far FAR harder to rebuild one.
  21. Well isn't THAT a useful form.. might be a step in the right direction!
  22. Already left plenty of messages with the "new" owners, that didn't get us anywhere beyond the "We'll get the title and mail it to you" about 3 months ago. We would prefer to own the car, fix the issues, then put it up for sale at this point. However depending on how much of a cost/headache this is going to be we may have to go another route.
  23. Without a title it can't be crushed, we COULD smash the hell out of it and get it crushed/recycled but then again you have the complications of what happen if/when the "owners" show up and want their car. The lien against the estate is tricky because technically the deceased actually already sold the car to the new owners and the registration is in their name..
