I just ordered an alternator... lets see how frisky we can get with this and some good voltage. Hoping it pulls like a freight train with the upgraded alt And I hope old EL ESS JUAN makes the trip!
-
Dyno video: The car had issues with the alternator keeping up with the load that the new MF 4703 is demanding on top of my current fuel system and all other electrical powered items. I plan to replace/rebuild this shortly. I swapped another alternator the shop had on the shelf on the car, and it seemed happier. The track rental was also cancelled Sunday due to weather concerns. Hope to get the car back together for next weekend. All in all, I'm not exactly happy with the 88's ability to make power without some form of race fuel (Ignite 114, VP import, etc) so I am going to sell the turbo and drop back to my old 4780 or perhaps another turbo. Debating on a manifold change this winter as well. Here are some photos from SP:

Never have had any ignition issues so no reason to switch it up. BKR7ES's have been money in this car.

Well got some decent fuel in the tank, swapped plugs and did a compression test. Engine is level across cylinders, but was surprisingly low number (I am guessing due to the cam overlap) Old plugs that came out: 10 passes, and 5-6 dyno pulls from this year. I have not replaced the plugs since it was up and running last fall. I did a lot of last minute touches last night (wiping the dust off, removing junk, etc.) Hoping for a great day Friday at SP!

Looks like a nice front mount inlet for my 2jayzeeee

Verizon increasing grandfathered unlimited data plans by $20
miller11386 replied to dakotart's topic in Dumpster
Thanks for ruining my Friday. I have been clinging on my unlimited data plan for years and buying phones for $500+ each time. -_______- -
I wouldn't hold my breath for that, however if they figure something out, id be willing to try it.

1/4 mile racing and they will be prepping the full track. $100 per car and I believe spectators are free. Prep has been outstanding this year even on the "street nights" people running low 9's on a street night speaks volumes for that place. I ran my best times there on their street night events and never once had traction issues. Also many bracket racers who frequent Quaker and Norwalk are mentioning that their 60' times are the same at both tracks. They also just repaved the shut down/return lane last weekend.

Doc, You have won the internet for today sir. Well done!

Larry doesn't travel. I will be going there.

Luckily, I was able to talk to Larry at SP and get an appointment to get the car's tune touched up for more power in 2 weeks. Now begins the rush to do all the final checks required to get the car in top shape for the dyno. 10/16 we will see if she is ready to make the big power numbers or if something else is not ready for the 8889's torment

Pretty sure he was high when he posted this.

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess I will go with the Honeywell WiFi version. For garage heat, I am just looking to keep it tolerable in there. Not crazy warm. As far as installing a separate furnace, I don't think that will be very likely as garage space is already at a premium and I wont want to install a furnace outside for obvious reasons. I guess I could install one in the attic and have it blow down, but that seems like a PITA as well. I would like to keep it Natural gas just because its so cheap to utilize as a heating fuel. Electric is not as cheap for me. Currently I have insulated walls all around as well as an insulated garage door, so I should be good to go to start. I don't think it will take a whole lot of energy to heat, but like I said Natural gas would be easy to get in the garage (I have a gas dryer that is on the other side of the interior garage wall)

Thanks I didn't think they would be on here... here is the locked down thread on the Nest vs Honeywell: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120380&highlight=nest Not as much on the garage heater.. maybe its buried in the home improvement thread?

As I am just getting into my first house projects, I am trying to prioritize what to do and what give the most satisfaction. Currently, I am in the middle of a security system, garage organization, and perhaps insulating the garage door..... So I have 2 Questions... All of this control brought me to look at programmable and now "learning" thermostats. Does anyone have a Nest thermostat? or a Honeywell Wifi learning thermostat? If you could give me your reactions and if they are worth the hype, I would appreciate it. Also taking tips for garage heaters. I have a slightly oversized 3 car garage. My house is a natural gas primary heating source, and it wouldn't be too tricky to get gas out to my garage. Any recommendations on a heater? I have seen plenty out there, but I'm not sure what I would really need. Not looking to be out there in shorts and a tee shirt in the middle of winter, but taking the chill off the wrenches would be a plus. I believe Natural gas will be the way to go for me, but if you have something different, feel free to chime in.

Truthfully the only thing that has kept it off the road this year is that the turn signals decided to quit working. I haven't really dug into why, so no serious road time lol. 'tis a sad state of affairs.

I drove the car around yesterday to make sure the fuel pumps were still happy. They are, so I tossed the drag pack in the corner and threw the old CCW's back on for a winter nap. Its unreal how much weight difference there is between those CCW's vs alumastars! I am hoping to get some dyno time this fall to turn up the boost. I want to go race, but I realize the tilton only lives so long. With the car trapping 140-144, its not going to get a whole lot quicker than the 10.04 I ran already. I think putting it aside until it can make all the power its capable seems to be the smart play. I will stick by my previous assessment. The car wasn't crazy out of the hole, but it definitely was no slouch. I look forward to cheering on some of my other buddies this fall at the IFO in Columbus.

Does pitt race require a HPDE course or SCCA/NASCAR/other license to run the track without an instructor? I know Mid ohio wants something to show you have a racing license.
-
I wouldn't hold my breath. With the tire dump they have going, the place is relatively un-sellable. The track needs a complete repave. It makes Mid-ohio seem like a smoking deal compared to Nelson. For mid level power and basic road racing, its not bad. Obviously anything actually competitive would be reasonably risky and I'm sure fenders would end up together. Lol that spec Miata exhaust..... so bad. Due to the fact that AJ wont be racing the spec Miata class, we may make some changes on the car. However he usually has too many pots cooking at once. We are working on a GSXR buggy project that has still got a ways to go before he can really devote any attention to the Miata. Minus the exhaust, its a great race car. A smidge underpowered for straights, but does awesome in the corners.

Yeah... he was pretty close when the WRX checked up

Made a stop yesterday at the Nelson Ledges Road Course with some friends. I was strictly on media duty, however it seemed like they had fun. The Green WRX is a hodgepodge of late 90's JDM and "all the best stock parts from each year." The Blue car is an old SCCA Spec Miata race car. I had never been to the road course at Nelson Ledges until yesterday. I will say that the facility is in fairly rough shape. Wood view towers are all in need of repaint and were covered in gnats and other bugs. Several out buildings are far beyond salvageable. The drivers mentioned the track itself was fairly rough. You can notice the roughness in the go pro in-car video. That being said, the people were generally nice. A few guys getting fired up about how others drive, but you get that everywhere. I was able to get some decent shots. We hope to maybe make it back out in September for another fun filled day of road racing. Go-pro in car footage: Skip to 6:10 for racing. Lap 1 has a CRX spin out and nearly piles up a few cars in turn 13 30 min in, the Miata gets squirrely in turn 3, but AJ saves it. Photos.... Just another RX-7 Built-Coltboostin Style

Just in time for fall rebuilds lol. get her back together and enjoy it this fall! -
Methinks a pile of BPA goodies I will know more once the BPA driveway is put in! lol Ewwww talk about shift city. I am very glad for the supra's long gears. Makes life a lot easier when you have the gearing to trap 185 in 4th.
