  1. Don't mistake mirrored drives for a backup. They are not. Lightning, theft, an array mis-configuration and your data goes *poof*. IMHO you want a NAS to dump files to and then back that up to an external hard drive. In my case I have two identical encrypted 5TB external drives that contain a backup of everything. One of the drives is always stored someplace offsite. I run a backup, take that drive offsite, then bring the second drive back home to have it for the next backup. Here is the 3-2-1 Rule of Backups: Have at least three copies of your data. Store the copies on two different media. Keep one backup copy offsite.

    Tv Deal?

Usually lots of great TV sales just before the Super Bowl. They blow out all the TVs that didn't move on Black Friday before next years models are out.

    Tv Deal?

Don't buy a smart TV. Just buy a TV for the picture quality then get a Roku. The Manufacturers only update the software on the "Smart" Tvs a couple times and usually only during the short time the model is sold. Then a year later some new streaming service comes out and you need to buy a new TV to get it. Even really old Rokus keep getting updated with the newest services.
  4. I'm sure the news would print a retraction on page 37 a few weeks later once you showed them the certificate. That's still after the front page story of how 10,000 customers data was found on a drive someone bought at a flea market and the last person who touched those devices is now unemployed.
  5. While that's nice no way I would ever let a drive out the door that I didn't wipe myself. If customer data ends up leaking because they don't wipe something who gets set on fire?
  6. Everyone already has their minds made up as to which side they are on. I've given up talking about it to anyone other than my elected representatives.
  7. Here is an example of calculating all this: http://www.learntorv.com/2013/03/what-can-i-tow-real-world-example.html IMHO you need to be looking at much lighter campers or a new tow rig.
  8. You also have to factor in the weight of passengers and gear in both the camper and the truck. I bet if you hit the scales with that rig loaded for a trip you'd be way over GVWR. You also need to watch per axle weights. You can be under on total weights and still easily have the rear axle of the tow vehicle way overloaded. Campers listed dry weights are as light as possible, and also usually don't include options. So start adding the weight of the A/C, awning, grill, etc. Tow ratings on vehicles are one of the things the Mfgs compete on. There may be some magic configuration that allows the vehicle to safely tow the max trailer weight with only a driver and no gear in the tow vehicle. Most camper are not going to be balanced that well and you have passengers.
  9. After having to do an emergency stop while towing a camper I can't say that I'd ever tow a trailer that was even close to being at the limit. 65 to 0 takes long enough you can think about what's happening and have time to get scared.
  10. I never though I'd buy a Ford other than maybe an old Mustang. Then the 15s came out. Couldn't quite believe it when I placed the order for one. It's been a blast and was amazing during the rally and was still comfortable after 2300 miles in 7 days.
  11. Snorta http://www.amazon.com/Snorta-Family-Where-Everyone-Animal/dp/B00112IBAW Checked the used listings for better prices I'm not sure what kind of crack they are smoking at $80. Fun for kids because you get to make animal sounds. Becomes more challenging quickly as more alcohol gets involved.
  12. There were a couple more 15s. At least everyone had a different color car so it was easy to tell them apart http://i.imgur.com/qovh1Khl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tdIGl2gl.jpg And I forgot the action shots from the dragon... http://i.imgur.com/ZUzt0mEl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Od4m878l.jpg
  13. The day three stop at the aviation museum was really neat. It would be hard to see the whole place in a day. http://i.imgur.com/gukUxIol.jpg That night was Roebling Road Raceway. It was a blast. I'd love to go back when it was under 100F and with better tires. Later that night Doc and I tried to get a pizza, that's a story that needs told in person though... http://i.imgur.com/t1cmEmLl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RHxFhxol.jpg Since we were so close to the ocean and we don't really take trips to the beach we went out to Tybee Island to watch the sun rise before heading home. http://i.imgur.com/zGx7hRSl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VlOInBVl.jpg Then I had a suprise for my wife. We have a painting of a huge oak tree in our living room. Since the artist was from the Gatlinburg area we both always assumed the tree was somewhere around there as well. While scouting possible stops during the rally I happened to find it south of Charleston, SC. So we went to visit it and I didn't tell my wife where we were going. Luckily I let her drive that morning since some of the road names might have given it away before we pulled up. http://i.imgur.com/ewEkTwzl.jpg The next stop was Boone Hall Plantation to break up the drive a bit. http://i.imgur.com/mmoxXfBl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SxwWGcal.jpg We spent the night in Mt Airey, NC on the way home and got to see some the the Andy Griffith Show sights. http://i.imgur.com/liuO6cXl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/s3o7O6zl.jpg Total trip stats http://i.imgur.com/3b4YOcTl.jpg?1 And yes the decals do come off. That seems to be the first question most people ask. Only a couple people have had problems and only on non-factory paint. Even after baking in the Georgia summer sun I only needed goo gone on a couple of places. http://i.imgur.com/zpMKCVpl.jpg Like Doc said, if you ever want to do the big summer rally then the Ohio Valley 700 is your ticket in. You'll get to experience a rally while only investing a weekend instead of a whole week, and you'll get veteran status so you can register for the summer rally before it opens to the public (or doesn't). Feel free to PM me or find me at Cars and Coffee and ask any questions you have about Rally North America. While it's all fun and games, we also raised $120,000 for Hope for the Warriors. Doc and I each raised a little over $1100. That money is going to fund a couple new programs that they've wanted to do but didn't have funding for.
  14. OK so here goes my side of the rally. We extended the three day rally into a whole week. We started out spending a couple days in Gatlinburg, TN with another couple from the rally (Team Too Cool with the ice cream XB). We had the best parking spot in town, thousands of people walked past the car every day. http://i.imgur.com/aPtFZ67l.jpg We hit the Hollywood Star Cars museum while we were in town. http://i.imgur.com/Ivinp6Zl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9Dspwv5l.jpg We also found this little guy parked on the street. http://i.imgur.com/KzsdKNxl.jpg We got up early the morning of the drivers meeting and headed down to Tail of the Dragon. We got there pretty early and I drove down and my wife drove back. We both got clean runs with no traffic. We had some nice scenery on the drive over to the dragon as well. http://i.imgur.com/sgcvsqTl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GAPZEQol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Y4vETusl.jpg Here are some pics from the night before and on the starting line the first day. http://i.imgur.com/BOTkuJ7l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xdo86Zol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4fgOLKAl.jpg Some of you may recognize Bill Tumas' car from the CJ Pony Parts videos. http://i.imgur.com/k2rbpNNl.jpg We did most of the navigation for Doc so he could just follow and enjoy himself(or not) . We picked up some others along the way. Here is our convoy from the second day at full strength. http://i.imgur.com/8p4t5mRl.jpg We hit a little fog that day... http://i.imgur.com/SSAK6bwl.jpg Big change from there to Atlanta Dragway. It was about 93 when we got there. Doc mentioned the Hellcat and I so since he shared me getting beat I'll share the pics of the run where I beat him. http://i.imgur.com/sDBLFYrl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/KHlqorVl.jpg
  15. If I can't fix it with a multimeter and google I usually just replace it. Had a $500 stove that I traced the issue to the control board, new board by itself was $290 from the cheapest source, just went and bought a new stove.
  16. I've found that any mapping app with the screen on will make the phone run hot. Add to that a little sun and the phone will overheat and stop charging. My solution is just to use a phone mount that holds the phone so air from the vents can blow on it. Easy to see and the phone stays cool. GM is even putting a special little vent on the phone holder on one of it's new models (something boring I forget which).
  17. Cordell posted on Facebook he was planning QSL at 7p and seemed to have several positive responses.
  18. It probably went like this: "Yes, ok, whatever, your car is faster than mine, just shut the fuck up already!"
  19. I do but it's a little far away. Most business that small also freak out a bit when we start talking about my hourly rate.
  20. I'll run magnets. It's a little harder since lots of the panels are aluminum. I know the hood and front fenders are aluminum and the doors and roof are steel. Didn't test the back half. I'm not sure there is any place on Docs slingshot for a magnet. IIRC it's all fiberglass, plastic, or tubular.
  21. I believe if the registration is still valid you only pay the extra special plate fee. The date the registration expires stays the same.
