Someone who's actually read up on this, how did VW program the computer to realize it was in EPA emissions test mode?
My guess is that the EPA uses a specific "drive cycle" on every car they test. VW taught their cars to recognize this specific set of actions and switch to clean mode
IE; drive x mins, idle x mins, stop and go scenario, hard acceleration, etc.

"The affected cars include VW Jettas, Beetles, Golfs and Audi A3s with diesel engines from the 2009 to 2015 model years, along with diesel VW Passats from 2014-2015."
2010 falls right after 2009, FYI.
No emissions testing in Ohio, other than a select few counties.

The Summer rally filled with rally veterans 6 months in advance, and never opened to the public. I suspect that the July 2016 one will do the same.
The Ohio Valley Rally (the "Fall rally") doesn't always fill with rally veterans, and it's the only way currently to make your way into the Summer rally. Registration for this year's Fall rally has closed.
Your best bet is to keep your eye on the website or the Facebook page 6-8 months in advance to see what you need to do.

If you need other info, feel free to ask me. If I can't answer your question, I'll send you on to someone who can.
I signed up on day 1, but was 30 or so places out from even making the cut. I didn't hold out much hope. I got a call from the organizers 4-6 weeks for the rally and they mentioned that a spot (or multiple spots) had opened up and wanted to know if I was interested. I was already locked in financially for LS fest and have a truck on the way. There just want enough time to come up with enough money to make it, so I declined.

Wish I would have been given more than a few weeks notice to make this event. would have been awesome.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I think in the past 5 years I've only ever seen 1 or 2 of the XUVs in the shop. Last thing I'd want is that option on top of the regular junk.
you're lucky. we see a couple per month
-
Last few we had in for the XUV specific parts (mid-window, rear hatch) got very expensive to repair. some of the parts aren't even available anymore.
-
Anyone else going?
-
Don't buy a XUV. buy a regular envoy/trailblazer 2007-2009
-
None you will find for 5k
you can get wrecked G8 or GTO for under 5k, I've never priced TBSS
-
He wants to use rear end. So I'm going to say TBSS or GTO or G8. Full size truck would have too wide of rear.
-
Thanks everyone. A member was able to set me up with his dealership.

Looking to order a new Toyota. Is there an active member who is a Toyota salesperson?
-
You don't get it hugh, things break but when your car has a known issue and the "update" part destroys itself I would be looking at different cars to purchase as well..
It a $200 part. I'm not going to cry myself to sleep at night worrying about it.

Aussie, do you have any links/info on the free arms now? I've missed this on the forums.
Take it to the dealer. Mention special policy 15289

Warranty is 4/50k on everything except power train which is 5/100k depending on year. Bumper to bumper warranty (4/50) covers just about anything you can complain about except paint, tires, and alignment.
