Is it normal for an 89 GT's 3rd brake light to flash 1 time for about 1.5 seconds when you are lowering the hatch? If I unlock the hatch, raise it fully, and start lowering it, the 3rd brake light comes on about half way down, stays illuminated for a second or two, then goes back out. Anyone ever hear of this? Is it a factory alarm or something? Gracious.

I should have said "stuck shut". With a stuck open stat, at idle speeds at least, I don't think you're going to pump water fast enough to overheat at a light. Seen weirder things though I guess. Start simple... Coolant full? Not a big surprise a low system would be "ok" until we jump 20 degrees in a day. Just for giggles and a piece of mind, make sure your oil still looks like oil. Oh, and I asked if the cap had been off recently making sure you hadn't introduced air into the system.

If the t-stat was stuck, you'd overheat at any speed. Have you had the system open recently?
