  1. It's the early in the year thing. You have to schedule it within a day or so of them announcing the schedule or you won't get in till fall. My buddy scheduled his in Feb, got into the first class, then the dumbass forgot to renew his temps beforehand and got kicked out. Tried to reschedule and no open slots till fall. In fact, I think that happened the same weekend we were at the dyno day, I almost felt bad for him. Almost.
  2. In all seriousness, I could be up for a ride that way. Or really, trailer the bikes up there and ride once we get there. I've done the NW Ohio thing and lets face it, its flat, boring, and ass numbing.
  3. I have to say it. Q: Why do birds fly upside down over Ann Arbor? A: Nothing worth shitting on. Thank you folks, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.
  4. I have a Wenger laptop backpack that I use instead of the company supplied briefcase thing. It's great, but I hate backpacks in general on the bike, its a pain. I was thinking more along the lines of a good Tank bag focused on laptops instead. I may breakdown and get some sort of sportbike saddle bags, but I really would like to avoid that for everything but overnight trips.
  5. Really? All I've ever heard from other sites is 300. I think all the metric dealerships up here charge 300, but the only one I'm sure of is State 8. However, the state is not subsidizing the HD courses, they just honor them like any other MSF class. I took the course from HD just for the convenience factor of being able to schedule the course mid summer and be in it 2 weeks later. Can't do that with the State course. It was worth it for me to get it over and done with.
  6. Actually, the harley course is nothing more but a rebranded MSF course with a bit of HD propiganda. MSF courses typically run 300$ everywhere. It's just that the state will subsidize the course so its only 25$ to encourage more people to do it. HD is actually not charging anymore than you would find elsewhere.
  7. We actually have a motorcycle club at work. We have a ton of people that ride into work, including some sportbikes now. Last year we would all ride to work on Fridays, then head out to a local bike themed restaurant for lunch, and often do a post work ride in the evenings. My only problem is that I'm on call for security issues, but I hate doing the backpack thing on the bike to carry the laptop back and forth. So I usually end up leaving my laptop locked in my lab at work. This , of course, invariably leads to me having to come into the office for all kinds of crap in off hours. I would LOVE to find a good tankbag suitable for putting a laptop in. Any suggestions?
  8. Sorry, but its against the terms and conditions of receiving my diploma to have anything positive to say about the unnamed state up north. BTW, I think its pretty cool that you get to meet the Dalai Lama. I have a lot of respect for the various Asian philosophies from my years training in Chinese Martial Arts.
  9. Damn dude, better tell the Dalai Lama that he's wasting his time. Not even the Dalai Lama can make that town worthwhile.
  10. Yea, but the weekend is supposed to be shitty. Besides, I'll be in cinci taking a test saturday, and stuck in a datacenter all sunday doing upgrades. And we all know that fun can't be had without me.
  11. Don't be a sissy, the lowest temp it should be is 50 that night. Now the more important thing is, is anyone else coming? I hope I didn't put a whole 5 minutes worth of effort googling up a map just for you.
  12. and for the love of all that is holy, show up with full gas tanks.
  13. Ok, lets plan on meeting at 6pm and rolling out by 6:30pm. That should give us enough time to hit the twisties before dark. Perhaps dinner @ QSL Canton aftewards. here is a rough google map of the ride. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=111521915632302192314.00044adedd487f07bfd38&ll=40.766502,-81.404915&spn=0.144054,0.376282&z=12
  14. Atwood Lake. As cliche` as it is, we usually meet up at the starbucks/einsteins bagels on the strip in N. Canton. It's about halfway for the canton/massilon folks and the akron folks, and its right by the highway so we can shoot down it briefly to get to the twistys. We could meet there or at QSL.
  15. Ok, I'm going to give up 1 night of studying this week to do some riding. Thursday seems to be the best weather wise. Who is up for meeting in North Canton, riding around Atwood, then getting dinner?
  16. Atwood Loop Start off of 77S at the 212 exit. Head East on 212. Take 212 to Atwood Lake, then turn left on to 542. Take 542 around the lake up to 183, 183 back to 212. Rinse, Lather, Repeat.
  17. According to their schedule they do them every Wednesday, but right now its still listed as "Winter" bike nights. We discussed it last week and we're not sure how many we'll do at Canton once the weather is decent because the ride up to Valley View is way better.
  18. I have had nothing but problems with checkpoint stuff over the years. Only once has setting up a vpn to a checkpoint EVER gone smoothly. Ironically enough, the checkpoint admin was somewhere in latin america and didn't speak a lick of english, and everything went just fine. I've seen them have problems with Cisco, OpenBSD, Netscreen, etc..... I'm quasi cisco certified for firewalls. I started my CCSP last year, passed SNPA, then had to reschedule SNRS 13 times due to work crap before I said fuck it. I'll maybe finish the SP this year or do the NP. Work has now learned that asking me to reschedule cert exams does not go over well with me.
  19. They fixed that part of the law last year. You can now use your CCW permit to CCW while in/on a motorvehicle.

  21. FYI, you look goofy off the bike too.
  22. No problem. I ended up taking way longer to get back from Columbus anyway. We need to get a ride planned soon, but unfortunately the weather forcast looks pretty bleak for the next week or so. Suits me fine anyway, I should be studying for my cissp test instead of riding.
  23. My normal carry for the G36 is IWB, but it just doesn't feel as secure as the OWB with thumbbreak while I'm on the bike. My first real test of the new rig was the ride down for dyno day, and the comfort was way up with it as well as peace of mind.
