  1. So it's my own damn fault I can't get 4k out of a set of contis. Thanks guys. Good discussion though - there are many many factors and a wide disparity of results.

For those who don't know me - ignore these guys, they've all been brainwashed by the Pauly spin machine to think I go fast, so that he looks extra good blasting by me!

  2. What are the factors affecting tire longevity?

The major ones I'm aware of:-

    Tire pressure.

    Torque.

    Riding style.

    Weight of bike+ rider.

I've never got more than 4000 miles from Conti-motion rear. I'm amazed at the numbers being posted up here: you guys must be built like jockeys (or ride really carefully)!! I'm pretty big - 210lbs, run 36/38psi, ride moderately aggressively and my bike is a pretty torquey.

  3. Looks like Dave is planning on a longer ride, so I'm still going to target this route and rough timing.

I'll be heading up that way regardless, so if anyone wants to join I'll swing by DQ. If there's not interest I'll just head straight out. I'll check back in the morning and make the call about the meetup then.

I'll see you at the DQ at noon, looking forward to meeting you.

  4. Yes, an age old debate. I was commenting really on how smooth and relaxed the driver seemed to be versus how 'busy' the rider appeared. Having said that though, I prefer to ride every time for that very reason: the bike demands more from one and is ultimately more satisfying.

(Caveat: I would certainly not be able to stay with either of them in either a car or on a bike.)

Have you been out on your new MTS yet, for any distance? Interested to hear your impressions of the ABS...

  5. If you need tires' date=' buy tires. [/quote']

Great advice, and a valuable lesson to learn from others mistakes. Last time I was down there I did the same stupid thing that Bad324 did - took half worn tires down thinking that they'd last okay. Of course they didn't - I managed to baby them home but it was no fun riding on dodgy tires for the last couple of days and the ride home was verging on dangerous. However, hardly anyone there could stay with my blistering pace even on crappy tires, so nobody else (apart from Pauly) noticed the difference. :)

If I can make it for this trip, It'll definitely be on fresh tires!

  6. Most of these have been available for a few years now, but I have never seen it this nicely organized before.

Correction: ...looking through the Alternative genre, I'm seeing a lot of 2011 samplers which must obviously be relatively new. Some of the comments and reviews are warning that Amazon may not keep them available for free indefinitely.

So maybe it'd be safer to download right away.

Certainly many of the Classical tracks have been around a while though.
